thank you for talking about this! I am a cleft-affected young woman (right unilateral cleft lip and palate), and I don't remember EVER seeing any representation in the media. The only person I knew who was also cleft affected was a chick-fil-a manager!

I have to tell you about myself. When I was born, my mom said I was hairy, nurses put bows and stuff in my hair, they loved it. Well, in grade school, kids made fun of me for being hairy, I went home and cried to my mom, she took me to the doctor, he told her I would grow out of it, yea right, took me till my 30s to get it to where it was light enough not to notice, I'm 63 now, still hairy, now I don't care, you don't like it, keep moving or I'll cuss you out. And I was made fun of because my glasses looked like coke bottoms, people can be cruel, and I was born flat foot, that was fun, had to wear shoes that made me look like I was wearing boats, not fun

All those times on my show and I didn't even occur to me that you had a cleft issue Claire. And my nephew was born with a severe case! (lip + open palate) That said and yet again, you amaze with your resilience!

Thanks Jim. It means a lot. I would have been much more normal if my parents had advocated for treatment for me but they let me choose. I’m glad that we have so many options for our kids now. It wasn’t like that in the 90s.

My issue is I was born with cross-eyes. It is genetic and my eyes are not parallel today. All I can say is some people are cruel. I also have learning disabilities. I've had abusive teachers too. It's bad enough that other children are bullies and abusive, but it's just horrible how many teachers are bullies. My heart goes out to you and everyone else that had to deal with bullying by other children and teachers.

You should look up Adam Bighill on Instagram, he's a CFL player with a cleft lip. Nicest dude in the world, his son was also born with a cleft lip. He's trying to make Wendy Williams apologize by calling her out on IG.

She is a Hollywood nobody. And most bullies end up being nobody’s in the end ,ending up in in places asking for help from someone they tormented. I feel your pain but know you are in a better place then they will in the end. Great video 💕

I just saw it. The comment and gesture were idiotic. Life changing surgery for children. A few hundred dollars goes a long way when it brings a medical team and surgeons to kids with cleft lip and palate. My favourite charity. operationsmile.ca
