Also another thing was that there was a shelf full of accessories and outlets for any tech for free, so that the employees don’t have to pay for anything for their tech.

As a consultant, I must say, travel for work is different than travel for fun. Both can be good, but I would prefer to spend that time with my family, be it at home, or traveling.
@temmasmasa94142 жыл бұрын
But if you compare a job where you have the opportunity to travel and a job with none, you would certainly prefer the former. It's not like travelling for work would reduce the time you can travel or spend the time with your family since you're not using your vacation leave to travel for work.
@TheMegaMrMe2 жыл бұрын
@@temmasmasa9414 actually you would not. Night's spent in a different city means time spent away from family. Most consultancy companies for example have a contract statement that say X% of the work time is done at the customer location. Depending on where you travel, it might not fit within the 8 working hours in a day. If the customer wants you there at 9am on Monday, you will most certainly spend time away from family, either the night before or the day before. While you are there, assuming that you finish at 17:00 you have time to get to the hotel and change. You will also be close to the work location, not the tourist attractions. How much time do you have to enjoy the new city in that situation? If you work for AWS for example, you can split a week between 3 customers in different parts of the country every week. You spend more time in airports than in the city. Ignoring my XP and my circle's XP which is mostly privileged IT work, I have friends who used to work as truckers (pre brexit). They know all the service stations in the EU, but not much else. In conclusion when I see "travel opportunities" on a job description, I stay away as I read it as "we'll pay you for 40h a week but you have to get to the place of work on your own time"
@86Corvus2 жыл бұрын
Travel is work, anything a corporation does to keep you away from you setting up your own life is evil. Including all the benefits, they should instead just pay you more. An adult doesnt need a gym membership as a part of corporate benefits program, he needs money which he then can buy a gym membership for if he wants to or spend it on donuts. Bottom line its manipulative. Its patronizing. Its disgusting.

Since a lot of people have asked me this, I may make a video on the topic in the future. I'll copy-paste my answer to one of the other comments here for now: I think there are a lot of reasons for which people, especially those early in their career, jump from company to company every 2-4 years. Jumping tends to come with a compensation increase, the ability to discover new tech, and the opportunity to simply explore new things. That being said, many people stay much longer than 2-4 years once they find a place they really love.
