This game is a huge nostalgia bomb for me. The kind where I get little brain tingles when I even think about it. I was 16 when it came out and it was the first game I ever bought with my own money. It was also the first game I played when me and my (now) wife moved into our first apartment. I remember sitting on our crappy little air mattress, wrapped up in a blanket because the heat was busted just feeling like I was floating because it was so perfect.

Hey Clemps have you ever played any of the titles in the Suikoden series? The PS2 RPGs are really amazing and the PS1 classics are simple masterpieces. Ask anyone who has played a Suikoden, nothing but nostalgic charm. I highly suggest you check one of the games out in the series. I have a feeling either the third, fifth, or second game would be perfect for one of your reviews. The series always felt like a complete opposite Final Fantasy with every title sharing continuity and even the same characters appearing in every game. Each title was never about individuals coming together to save the world but individuals and Nations/kingdoms/races coming together to save or overthrow an corrupt force. The game always had 108 characters in every game to collect and it was so addicting, like collecting Poke
@KittyBitGames7 жыл бұрын
I agree with Sean on the Suikoden series, it was far from perfect but held a unique charm and ambitious roster of 1o8 characters in each game and made great use of narrative and city building to add alot of weight to your revolutionary movement as a rebel army. Also I would INTENSELY suggest Star Ocean if you haven't done those games yet. I've only recently found your channel so I'm still going through what you've played but so far I really like what I see and agree with you on most points and I've near 1oo% completion on almost every RPG released before the PS3 era. So if you're ever looking for suggestions, maybe I can assist! Take care and keep it up!

Monica knew how to find max because she already knew where the atlamilea was since Max's mom was in the future, and they had already tracked it down to Max's father before, so when Monica came back, she already knew it was probably with him, but since he didn't have it, she probably went to the people closest to him, which resulted in her finding him.

Some more things from the first game that are either fixed or removed in the sequel in no particular order: -Abs is no longer instant, instead it's dropped and needs to be picked up. This lets you kill with one weapon, swap to another, then get up low level gear quickly. You can also swap characters and the abs is split between their weapons. Ridepod carry at times is the best way to level up weapons. -Weapons don't actually break. If a weapon runs out of durability, they just deal 1 damage and bounce off instead of breaking. Saves a lot of potential headache and stress. -Weapon leveling up is instant and gives you a resource to upgrade stats instead of having to open a menu to level up. -Setting weapon elements is no longer a thing. Instead, whichever stat that gives bonuses against a specific enemies is the only thing that registers when you hit. The only thing the elements effect is the animation of Monica's magic, which just changes its trajectory. Whichever stat is highest of the four determines the animation and has no effect on the damage dealt to enemies of the same element. -Much fewer upgrade parameters. Went from 20 parameters to 10. I swear, most of the Anti-creature parameters in the first game only had 3 enemies they did anything against in the entire game. -Evolving weapons is much easier. You can use almost everything in the game to upgrade your weapons' stats. -Fishing is now a minigame with a few other side activities tied to it instead of just a way to purchase gems before the final dungeon. -Fishing for the Mardan Garayan and the Baron Garayan is now much simpler, as they each only spawn in a specific fishing spot and have their own exclusive bait/lure. They still only spawn at specific in-game times, though. -Enemies don't read your inputs anymore. No more constant one-frame back hops or blocks when you hit the attack button throughout the last third of the game. -They removed the back areas of dungeons. While you could get some rare items from them, it was mostly just extra crystals, which are fairly easy to get, or a way to reset the enemies for abs grinding. -You get much more gold. Because of all the materials you have to buy, they make every enemy drop gold now. This also makes purchasing crystals and gems to upgrade your weapons much more efficient. -Melee attacks can hit farther than 2 pixels in front of you. My biggest gripe in the first game was how short Toan's range was, as all his weapons had the same short reach regardless of how long the weapon actually was. Now, not only do different weapon types have different reaches, they also have different combos. And the first attack of most combos is now a downwards or upwards swing, so you can actually hit aerial enemies. -Aerial enemies don't like to hang out out of reach as much unless they're doing some special attack. -No more "this character must be alive to progress" gates. -Same items stack! Now you can stock up on healing items and Repair Powders without running out of inventory space. -The inventory is much bigger to the point where you will only run out of space if you have a excessive amount of weapons. -Restriction floors now permanently lose their restriction if you clear all the enemies on the stage. -No special animation when you pick up the exit key aside from it floating above your head a little longer. Saves a bit of time each floor. Also, no dungeon that has multiple exit keys that you have to guess which is the correct one and you just want to punch the owl because three keys are taking up way to many inventory spaces that could be used for Repair Powder and healing.... -Coins! While some weapons still have bonus abilities, like Wealth or Abs Up, when you obtain them, you can instead purchase or find coins that synth the same ability onto your weapon. No more needing to farm up a bunch of Big Bucks Hammers to break down when you want all your weapons to have Wealth when you can just buy the coins fairly early. -Chests can now face any direction, not just true north. I actually had to use an Escape Powder in the Demon Shaft because the chest with the obstacle key was facing a wall lamp and the Demon Shaft's wall hitbox extends further than normal at those spots, so I couldn't open the chest, which meant I couldn't get to the exit. If I didn't have an Escape Powder, that would've been a softlock. -You automatically are forced to switch characters when one goes down. No more Stand-In Powder. Such a waste of money and inventory space.

That makes no sense. Isn't the legend of hero from one a thing in Dark Cloud 2? That means Seda is from the past, and the hero is from the future from Seda's timeline. So that means Monica's father is either a descendant, or just looks eerily familiar for no reason.
@Zeppelee5 жыл бұрын
@@chainchomp3500 That's a great point. However, when you put into consideration that Monica is a skilled swordsman (much like Seda himself), and that she inherited her red hair from her mother (Seda's beloved), you know it to be true.

Hm, sad to hear that you didn't enjoy the game quite as much as the first. That's fine, to each their own. I personally enjoy Dark Cloud 2's grindier/slower elements, although it is DEFINITELY guide heavy. Part of the reason why I prefer it over the original is because Max and Monica feel much more interesting as characters, and the world feels much more developed. The gameplay, at least in dungeons, is a lot better as well, with thirst being gone, weapon durability being less punishing, and weapon upgrading feeling a bit more convenient. Either way, you do make good points, and the game isn't perfect. I still find it to be the better of the series, and one of my favorite games as a kid.
@dmas77496 жыл бұрын

I was very upset and my mom suggested this game, which was right next to where KH1 was. I reluctantly agreed and let me tell you, I'm glad I did. This game became one of my all time favorite ps2 games behind the Kingdom Hearts series. I can't imagine a world where I never rented this and by the following Easter I was gifted this game. Weird how the universe works like this. And now, 13-15 years later, I'm finally playing the original Dark Cloud and I'm having a blast.

-Neat thing: Monica's dad looks a lot like Seda. That room her dad was murdered in? Almost 1-to-1 it's the final room of the first game. Ergo, the first game with two moons in the sky is mostly 500 years in the future to most of this game. Y'know, since that rat wasn't even born yet before it fell in the jar with the Dark Genie. Alternative speculation has it that the country Seda was at war with was Alexandra's.

After so many years , this masterpiece of a game still gives me chill.I really do believe such story driven (although hella grindy rpgs) are the best out in the market. When i was about 10 years old i was living with my mother ,my brother and his girlfriend (wife today) .My brother had a humongous collection of games for PS2 and i loved playing and watching him play some masterpieces of the times passed ex. Resident evils, Silent Hill series,Devil May Cry 1-2, Mortal Kombat series and many many more. But his girlfriend was a bit mad at both of us since she wanted to play smth too (she did like watching us play by to a certain degree).At that time about 12-14 years ago ,i was having some private lessons in English so i was literally the only one in the household who was pretty good at it.I really started practicing my English skills translating the games to my brother and his wife.I'm from Ukraine btw and English isn't even my second language.(Ukrainian,Russian(they are different despite the stereotypes),English,Greek(we live in Greece),and Bulgarian to a certain extent(literally learned it listening to my brother talk to his wife(she's from Bulgaria). As a result you could say i was somewhat of a glorified translator for my family and some friends. Here comes the time my brother bought a game for his wife-to-be .And it was Dark Cloud (Chronicle) 2 .As i said we all started playing the game in unison.I was the driving force giving tips ,translations,suggestions and directions. As we traversed through the game we fell in love with the story narrative and YES even the heavy grinding aspect of it.The game seemed really chill,with great music in the background , with a majestic aura around it (it was our first encounter with the genre) especially after all the dark and edgy games mentioned above.This game in a way changed my whole view on RPGs (jrpgs) and even anime (i've watched only like a few mainstream at the time) and to this day when i'm 24 and adult i still have a special place in my heart for this game and all it stands for. I do recommend to my friends and everyone else i know who plays games to at least give it a try. We tried playing DC 1 , but for some reason it didn't light any spark of interest in us.At least his wife sort of liked it ,although way less than the DC 2. Awesome video,dude! At my current age now i do agree with some of the points brought up by you but let's be honest some are quite small and could be addressed to just your personal liking. Phew ,I've literally went and written a whole essay explaining my love and appreciation for this game but to be honest it's worth the time. Anyway good job and you've got yourself one more subscriber.

I grew up with both games but I remember Dark Chronicles a lot more because my mom used to just make me fish for her lmao 7:10 Oh. I was actually saving up for that in my play-through. Thanks for sparing my ears ✌️

Great video! I thought I was the only person that fancied DC1 over DC2, but I see you are also in that club!

katamaritaco I'm the opposite, I used to think everyone including me preferred Dark Cloud 2, but now I feel like I'm the only person who prefers Dark Cloud 2 because I see so many people saying they preferred the first one. It honestly makes me sad. 😢

I’m very glad I came here from SuperButterBuns, ESPECIALLY since you’re starting with Kingdom Hearts. Your content is amazingly detailed, entertaining, and downright hilarious at times! And if I do say so myself you are quite the looker. I’ll definitely be sticking around 😊

That big purple fish voiced the toiletnator and techies. I was so annoyed of the familiarity in his voice but I found out where I recognized that voice from.

The Dark Cloud game are one of my favourite series of games, I really wish they would continue it. I think since this game had the atlamillia for Sun, Moon and Earth and Dark Cloud had one that I personally relate to Pluto they could make other atla users whos struggles revolve around the other 7 celestial bodies and what they're related to.

Max says it in the prolog: "It's not that they don't want to leave, they CAN'T leave." There's no way out of the city, the mayor won't open the gates.

Shoulda just used a cheat to get infinite building materials. No harm in cutting out the tedious back-and-fourth.

Dark Cloud 2 was my absolute jam, gotta be in my top 5 PS2 games. I'm a total Spheda apologist too. I fully recognize all the bullshitty aspects about it, like how the ball cycles between two colors and won't go in the hole if it's the wrong color, or the hair-pulling grind of trying to play it in those cliff levels, or how they only give you like 1-2 shots to make it around 5 corners (except those rare glitches where they give you like 15 shots for some reason), but somehow it was just SO satisfying to get good at that minigame and actually complete a hole now and then. Sadly I haven't seen Level 5 make a game as good as this since then. I know they worked on Ni No Kuni but I don't think it even touches this game.

When I heard Emperor Griffin I immediately thought, don't you mean Emperor Griffith? Also no Flotsam/Jetsam Little Mermaid joke?

maybe you've had people recommending this to you before, but you would really enjoy the Shadow Hearts series of games I think, especially the original Koudelka for the PS1 if you're into off kilter JRPGs

I remember my brother and I would literally make lists of things to obtain, and how many materials are needed. Dark Cloud 1 never made you do any of that.

I mean, I would kind of recommend a guide for this game too, but for the crafting system, not the townspeople collection. There are plenty of obscure or missable ideas that you need to make the best stuff. At the very least, that's entirely optional. If you're just playing casually, no guide needed.
