Why so much focus on LDL especially just the total? Aren’t we past only looking at LDL reduction....love to know what your diet and exercise recommendations are...

thanks for talking about Lp(a), Dr. Ford Brewer here on youtube has done a number of videos on this subject. Apparently, most docs don't even know about or test for it..........

From this conversation it is sad the public still points to HDL when engaging in lifestyle intervention. Research shows it does not play a causative role in atherosclerosis and should not be a target for pharmacological treatment.

Nobody targets HDL. They worry about LDL and LP(a), which are proven to be linked to CVD
@swatigee

Yes, but it plays a protective role.
@Blaze42069-z
@Blaze42069-z Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's true but hdl does play a role. It just that in patients with CVD the main concern is reducing the ldl and thus hdl is put on a back burner. But remember no matter how high your HDL is you never want your LDL to be over 100.

I loved this video. Very enjoyable watching two brilliant people talk about this. However What exactly is statin intolerance? Is it muscle pain? Which muscle? Is it GI issues? Is it fatigue and tiredness? I wish they would be more specific so you can identify if it truly is your statin or some other cause that is responsible if you have some symptoms.

How is it possible that Lipoprotein (a) is bad when there are articles on Pubmed that say Centenarians have elevated levels of Lp(a) that could be in the genetics for a good reason as to be protective for the body? Please explain.
@beepbeepnj2658
@beepbeepnj2658 Жыл бұрын
@Серёга Одинсон Are you sure about that? "Remarkably, one-quarter of the centenarians had high Lp(a) serum levels even though they never suffered from atherosclerosis-related diseases." 1998 G. Baggio.

I was put on a low dose of rosuvastatin and couldn't tolerate it, joint pain and muscle weakness. Now on Livalo low dose about 7.5 mg / week. tolerate it well. Also baby aspirin. Looking into Niacin as statins don't work on Lp little A of which mine is high.

Maybe low levels of Lp(a) are not that good? The Lp(a) levels were inversely correlated with the CIMT in this population, suggesting that subjects with a low Lp(a) level may have a predisposition to carotid atherosclerosis. 2012 article: CIMT in asymptomatic subjects with low Lipoprotein(a) levels.

Great Information. I am on a Statin- 20 mgs Crestor and also taking Zetia. On only the Crestor (generic brand) my cholesterol went in Half and my LDL went in half. I go for more bloodwork in December. I have No Side effects, at least not yet. I have been on since April. Does that mean I probably am Fine with Statins? Also, do we know what makes it OK for some people and others can't tolerate? (Side note- I have an LPa of 373, I did not have a heart attack, but I do have 6 stents put in this year) I am also taking a lot of supplements. Like 20 a day.
@johntrampe
@johntrampe 2 жыл бұрын
When I took 20 mg Crestor my Lp(a) did go up, it's wise to find a lab and get your blood tested regular and play with your statins intake to see how you can take the best doses for your Lp(a) In my case Niacin helps to reduce my Lp(a) with 25%. You already use the best statin to fight Lp(a) others will only raise your Lp(a)

However bempodoic acid has clinically significant (0.5%) incidence rate of achilles tendon and rotator cuff rupture-not good especially for people who would typically be taking up an exercise programme at start of treatment.

So in the end it all comes down to genetics. If you have genetically high lp(a) then no diet or exercise can help only medication can help
