Amazing how we have been taught exactly the opposite. My Oncologist who put me on Keto/Intermittent fasting in Feb 2021 to drop 15 lbs (I lost 22 lbs of fat) was delighted to see my weight drop, my fat gone, and my cholesterol UP from 190 to 251. He told me: You’re doing it right! Don’t change a thing! The difference in him versus my American Schooled Primary Care MD? He was European trained and does not cater to big Pharma. So fortunate to have scored him as my Oncologist 🙏🏼.

It's all about the money and the business model. U.S. healthcare is profit based. There is more profit in a sick patient buying expensive drugs than a cured one. Europe is a cost based healthcare system. Since the government pays for healthcare it is in their best interest to keep costs low. A cured healthy patient costs less money.

@@eb6195 So the "government" is supposed the grab you and FORCE you to get outta the house, get daily exercise, and quit eating that 150 lbs of sugar Americans eat per year. And on top of that prohibit you from eating white wheat flour products, and white rice products, which are essentially just sugar. Those two things have basically no food value. (Not to mention the overeating of potato products). Yet that is mostly what people are eating today YOU are in control of what you eat. YOU are TOTALLY in control of your weight. A doctor cannot control your habits. You DONT need a doctor to remedy these things. 70% of Americans are overweight. Half of these are actually obese. AGAIN, YOU should take care of that, before you ever approach a doctor. And HE should take care of HIS OWN weight. He cannot force you to get exercise, and he cannot force you to feed yourself properly Do you realize that almost ALL "health problems" in the US are caused by and/or aggravated by weight problems?? WHAT IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK A DOCTOR IS SUPPOSED TO DO ABOUT PROBLEMS YOU HAVE WHICH ARE CAUSED PURELY BY YOUR OWN CHOICES? So lets get away from the hilarious fallacy that doctors and governments are causing your health problems. Doctors arent even about health, they are about sickness. And they do a pretty decent job about that. But what exactly is a doctor supposed to do with you when you appear before him with all these things you caused by your behavior, and which you can remedy by a change in your behavior? So I am saying, GIVE US A FREAKING BREAK

True story, 1) I started Keto my total Cholesterol went above 300. 2) Doctor ordered 40mg statin. 3) on my own I took a calcium scan test and passed in flying colors. 4) Doctor reduced dosage to 20mg. 5) I pushed for LDL type test and found most LDL in my blood was low density. 5) Doctor reduced dosage to 5mg. 6) I bought the pills and left them in my drawer.

holy f how is this not the standard diagonostic procedure for doctors? If you want to know if something is working or not, do the damn test. One can argue for and against the biochemistry of lipoproteins, but you can't argue against a calcium score as physical evidence of efficacy. I'm starting to think that statin research by big pharma purposely ignored the most obvious method for testing efficacy just so they can market a product for 20 years until someone realizes LDL is irrelevant for plaq formation, cardiac events, and mortality.

When I refused, he threatened to drop me as a patient and I told him not to bother as I would not be back. My total cholesterol at the time was 180 and my ratios were all in the lower to middle range of what is considered normal. Actually my new doctor suprised me. He was agreeing with me on my doubts about the meat, eggs, fats '''official'' guidelines, so he confirmed that there is no real evidence in regards to those being bad. The simple reason, is that he studied also statistics. That's what other doctors are missing. So when you check a statement, and the research backing it, if (for example) you see it's an epidemiological study, you know it's not a valid argument. But if you haven't studied statistics, then you take the statement at face value.

@@Reincarnation111 I also suffer with GERD if I do not stick to keto. The last time I fell off the keto cart, I fell HARD. I began having severe chest pain that radiated up into my jaw and down my arms. Still waiting to see my cardiologist, but I’m pretty confident that it isn’t a heart issue as I had a similar experience before starting keto. I have learned that grains, starches, egg whites, and sugar are triggers. It may take some time to see improvement when switching to keto, but in my experience, it will happen. I have found that I also need to restrict consumption of wheat flour substitutes, but it may be that the egg I use in keto friendly recipes is more of a problem than the coconut or almond flour. However I’ve noticed that these “flours” slow digestion, allowing stomach acids more opportunity to irritate the esophageal sphincter. Less of a problem if eaten on an empty stomach and in moderation.

My bipolar has been in remission (fat adaption exasperated it while on psych meds), my eating disorder is in remission as well. Anxiety was not helped with a keto diet but after believing and being told medication was the only thing to help my bipolar disorder and I HAD psychosis intermittently as well as 3 psychiatrists diagnose bipolar it is unbelieveable to me where I am now. My bipolar mood changes were always influenced by extreme stress and that isnt happening now. I would say my anxiety is worse than when I was on medication and it was already to the point that I am disabled so I am unsure how to move forward. The meds that helped some with anxiety made keto impossible due to the bipolar. Living with the anxiety has been unresolved through copious amounts of therapy and only seems to disappear up to 48 hours with an ativan which i dont want to take. My current plan is to utilize yoga/breathing exercise as it does help but it doesnt stop me from visiting the hospital constantly. Fyi before keto I was on tons of psych meds (cipralex, wellbutrin, topamax, clonazepam, seroquel), was diagnosed with t2 diabetes an a1c of 9 are skip the dishes/fast food every meal or the day, my hdl was .86, ldl 3.01, trigs 1.44. Only my hdl was out of range (low), 9 months later eating keto without many processed foods my hdl is 1.21 ldl 4.67 and trigs 1.03. I was eating far more sat fat and very unhealthy previously at 3000 to 3500 calories a day yet my ldl went up 50% when I lost 75lbs. How could it possibly be saturated fat doing this? My dietician is equally perplexed and this has led her to start investigating.

Wow! Love this guy and I'm subscribed. Quit my statin drugs a year ago and haven't looked back. My doc was upset. He had doubled my statins and then doubled them again. For breakfast I now eat 4 slices of bacon, 3 free range eggs sunny side up, small baked russet with good fat and sour cream, some home-fermented sauerkraut and small tomato. Play tennis 3 days a week and walk 3 miles 3 other days. At 73 I weigh about the same as I did at 23, down some poundage from a year ago. Thanks to KZbin and the Perfect Health Diet-- much the same as described in this video. My cholesterol numbers are just where you put them on your chalk-board. Thank you! My doctor was a good friend as well...I asked him why he was prescribing a drug that is killing me? His answer was that he was referring me to a cardiologist because I just wouldn't listen to reason. I said I read the research and it speaks for itself. I fired him, went on Keto, intermittent fasting. Completely drug free, lost 20 pounds in 4 months and my BMI went from 26.6 to 19.0. I'm insisting my new doctor watch Dr. Ali's presentation with an open mind. So far he hasn't put me back on a statin and I won't start up again even if he insists. Dead doctors don't lie! So...I had a follow up on 5.31.19, the new geriatric doctor said he was pleased with the weight loss. I asked him to watch Dr. Ali's video on why cholesterol goes up on a Ketogenic diet. Basically he poopooed it saying "this was just one doctor's opinion," doctors rely on standardized, recognized, accepted research. He asked me what I wanted to do as I go forward. I told him I wanted to continue for another 4 months on the Ketogenic diet, intermittent fasting, but fine tuning it by adding more exercise (weight lifting, HIIT & cardio), getting better sleep, reducing saturated fats. I'm sure that the bad cholesterol will diminish to an acceptable level. He also suspects that my high cholesterol is hereditary. Keep on trucking...🚚

I just came across this video & will download it to study further. This is MY answer to the mystery of what my blood tests show at 81 years of age. Although the medical practitioner I consulted remarked that I am fitter than 40 year olds he usually sees, he thinks my LDL is a bit high even though my TGS are low. My diet for a long time has been pretty much what is shown here. Thank you for making this information clear for all to share. Coming from a professional with medical experience give this more credence.

I've been on a Keto diet now for three months and have significantly reduced my carb intake. I've not eaten potatoes, wheat or pasta or any processed food since July (It's now early November). My main motivation was to lose some weight (lost over 23lbs) and better protect myself againt COVID-19. I have to say I have just turned 60 and have never felt better. I am sleeping better, I feel alert and simply don't have any hunger cravings. I am now doing intermittant fasting as I simply don't feel the need for more than one quality meal early evening meal. Having just had my blood test results my doctor informed me that my kidney & liver function looked normal with HDL & Triglycerides being in the normal range. I was alarmed to learn that my LDL was high, but thankfully for the above video I can take comfort that I wont need to rush out and start taking medication.

A national study has shown that nearly 75 percent of patients hospitalized for a heart attack had cholesterol levels that would indicate they were not at high risk for a cardiovascular event, based on current national cholesterol guidelines. The patients had low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels that met current guidelines, and close to half had LDL levels classified in guidelines as optimal (less than 100 mg/dL). This tells me that LDL is not the culprit, I believe it is inflammation. It has been well known that gum disease can effect your heart when the bacterial gets into your blood vessels and causes inflammation.

My LDL jumped from 82 to 218, My HDL went from 39 to 62, My Triglycerides dropped from 142 to 64. The triglycerides/hdl ratio is 1.03~ Moreover, my Total Testostrone jumped from 379 to 894. Also, my liver enzyme AST function was 49 ( nearing high side of normal, I have a history of inflammed fatty liver disease, NASH fibrosis of moderate stage, via biopsie) now that function is near normal- low range at 18. Also I have lost 30 pounds, and now 6' tall and 32 pants.

Excellent presentation. This explains why my LDL level increased. I am a 50 y.o. male and have been doing keto since late October 2019. The lab at the end of last year showed my LDL jumped from 129 to 182, total cholesterol from 193 to 261, HDL increased from 55 to 65, and Triglycerides dropped from 64 to 46. No changes in glucose level (104). My doctor wanted me to visit him to discuss a treatment option. I felt a little bit concerned with my numbers but I will stay in this diet for a little longer exploring the best working plans. Now I will add more physical activities to my lifestyle.

Explains why my whole family has been on a Keto diet For just about two weeks, and when all three of my children came down with a fever a few days ago, that was the only symptom they got! All three bounced back quickly, and had no further symptoms! The more I learn about this way of life (I refuse to call it a “diet” anymore!) the more I am convicted that every single person on earth should be on some variation of it! It’s a life-saving way of eating!! All I can do for now is change our family’s habits and go one day at a time!

When I learned about the LMHR person it now has me interested in seeing how this can impact my business/ industry. Lots of folks will be given a sub standard/ standard rate, maybe even denied, for having an elevated and "extremely" elevated LDLs, for life insurance, when infact they are in superb health. I think I'll reach out to some of the carriers I deal with to see what the barriers are for LDL and why. This video might be able to help in that aspect to help turn this misconception around that high LDL is bad. Thanks!

Took the words out of my mouth TB. Cohort studies are not proof of anything. They only point to the need for randomized, control studies, which eliminate confounding factors, and prove or disprove that an association is also a causative factor. That said, even the studies that you point to, are probably, also, just observational. Just because a population's cholesterol is low (on average), doesn't mean that they are living longer because of that.

Longevity statistics in itself are useless. You can lose mind sharpness at the age of 80 and get a progressive decline in mental and physical health and die at the age at 101. It doesn't mean that you were healthy and you died at 101. What statistics will not show you is that you were actually DEAD at the age of 80 and you were basically a vegetable for 21 years till you body finally died at the age of 101. *"Studies have actually shown that LOW cholesterol is associated with cognitive decline."* - not only that, but vegan and vegetarian diets are also strongly linked with mental illness, mental health problems, depression etc.

I wish some of the thumbs down people would comment. I'm trying to figure out what the problem is. Great science presentation.

Donald Reitsma I would wager that the nine thumbs down were from Big Ag, Big Pharma, Vegans, and Food Pyramid worshippers.

It probably doesn’t agree with their political and religious philosophy of food. Or it could be a symptom of ESV.

Easy. 1) He describes purposes of LDL but none of that proves what levels are healthiest. The human body makes all the cholesterol we need and even recycles it, so the body can increase it's own LDL levels if needed without eating ANY cholesterol. 2) Then he cherry picks two studies. Leiden study only applies to very old people and they actually couldn't rule out reverse causality, so it proves nothing. 3) Lothian study was interesting and supports his thesis, but there are uncontrolled variables there, the low cholesterol group wasn't very low (TC under 150 or 140 is more where true "low" would start). But more importantly, there's LOTS of research showing the opposite of what he's saying. Lowest diabetes rates are populations that eat the most carbs--but they eat whole food carbs, not processed junk. Worldwide, the people who are fattest are those who eat the most fat, and those who are the slimmest eat the most carbs. ONLY diets to have stopped and reversed serious heart disease in multiple multi-year studies are VERY high in carbs (75-80%) and very low in fat (~10%). All the healthiest and longest lived populations got the vast majority of their calories from carbs. There are ZERO super-healthy and long-lived populations who got most their calories from animal foods or fat. Even the Hadza, a remaining hunting-gathering tribe, gets 70% of its calories from carbs--and 15% of the total calories are from honey. Other studies clearly show more and more arterial plaque with increasing LDL levels. It's fine to argue keto sets different dynamics in motion, thus changing the game, but until there are studies of 10 years and across lifespans, these docs are just asking people to go on faith. There's no long-term evidence backing the overall healthfulness of this.

Dr Nadir Ali. What a true and honest champion. We need to share this info/link to many medical institutions and healthcare professionals as possible. It's about time they are educated about cholesterol more than ever and learn not to prescribe cholesterol lowering drugs randomly as a result of seeing one marker like a raised LDL level, which if not oxidised, is not a concern. It's a simple subfraction test they can order and act accordingly.

Thank you so much for your highly informative talk. I've been eating a keto diet (without counting macros etc) and doing intermittent fasting...and my blood sugar (Type 2 Diabetes) is now at 6.8, which pleases my doctor. However, I've just had my annual blood work done and my doctor wants to see me - I know she'll want to put me on a statin, as my Cholesterol and LDL (and urinary ketones) are up but my triglicerides and HDL are fine (and they used to be the big culprits). Watching your presentation gives me great information to take to my doctor. Many, many thanks. Yours in Gratitude

A brilliant and informative talk. My mother, 82 and slim, had high LDL so doc insisted that she start statins (won’t listen to me as I’m not a doctor). Now my brother, on a keto diet, has been told the same thing by another doctor
