On the January 24th 1989 episode of LATER WITH BOB COSTAS, American rocker DEL SHANNON discusses his rise from Battle Creek bar band to charting star within weeks in 1961. The next year Shannon was touring the U.K. sharing bills with The Beatles. He relates his relationship with John Lennon from pre-Beatlemania in the United States. Shannon also claims to have been closer to Brian Epstein than the Fab Four! Surprised Costas did not go down that road deeper. Nice video! I'm from BC and had always heard stories about Del growing up in the 90s. I always loved that song "Runaway" even before I knew he played in Battle Creek much. He had a haunting and really cool voice. Appreciate the share and info regarding Del! Peace

. On the advice of his doctor, on January 24, Shannon began taking Prozac, an antidepressant. Fifteen days later, he died by suicide, shooting himself with a .22 caliber rifle at his home in Santa Clarita, California, on February 8, 1990.[16] He died from lead in the head, In other words “lead poisoning”🤡

one hit wonder? don’t make me laugh 😂 he was huge in Britain voted top vocalist in 62/63 hit the top spot only once but had many tunes that got close, Swiss Maid, Hey Little Girl, Keep Searchin, Little Town Flirt ect ect, a true gent that had empathy for others not so fortunate, and influenced so many stars, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Mark Knofler to name a few, he produced other artists continued to write great songs in a career that spanned nearly 30 years - he was loved by so many and he’s sorely missed 😢🎸
