Everyone local knows The Venue as The Royal. I think it was officially The Royal Hotel and it has a fascinating history during the war when it was a Polish hospital.

Cleveleys is my happy place. I used to go every year on holiday with my mum and dad. In the same holiday flat. There was an ice cream parlour called Tasty Freeze at the top of Victoria Road. Oh it was good. Now we take our grandson every couple of weeks to dig on the beach, have chips and go thru Blackpool on the way home. He loves it now, too. Making memories. I fed ducks at the duck pond every year and now we take the grandson.

That brought some memories flooding back Steven. I used to live there 68 years ago and my grandparents lived on West Drive and used to walk to the duck pond with bread. From memory there used to be swans on it as well and as a small child was terrified as they hissed at you. The cycle shop and car sales place used to be Thomas Motors. On the other side further west used to be Bebington's Shop which had excellent toy department where my pocket money was spent on Dinky toys. Opposite NatWest over the tram tracks was the Odeon cinema 3d for children's matinee Saturday afternoon's. The Regal Hotel was a family treat for meal I used to think it was great, doesn't look it now!! Keep up the good work Steven.

@pete99582 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen - The original B&M store was a small building on the far side of the car park you showed beyond Cleveley bus station, it was that small and busy that you had to queue outside and wait to be allowed in. The second store opened in Highfield road which now has since closed, they now have stores across the country, come a long way since the 80s. Great filming and so nostalgic thank you -

B&M started in a couple of sheds the other side of the bus station, beyond the 7 bus. I remember visiting it very briefly in 1986. The absence of any trees and greenery makes the town look very unappealing. Photographs taken in the 1960s show a large roundabout at the Victoria Rd West junction with colourful flowerbeds and grass, providing welcome relief from all the concrete. Of course, growing car ownership meant there was no place for grass and flowers; the roundabout was removed and resulted in the unattractive unrelieved tarmac and concrete we see today.

If you compare Blackpool Tower with the Effiel Tower.You can see the Effiel Tower is built in 3 sections; the legs support,then a middle supporting structure and the Blackpool Tower is like the third top bit of the Effiel Tower.
