A Walk on the Wild Side

A Walk on the Wild Side

I visited the city of Gloucester. The only thing I knew about the city beforehand was that it was where the infamous serial killers Fred & Rose West lived, and they carried out most of their murders at 25 Cromwell Street. How does it look there today?

The so-called 'Sunday School' you mentioned at the end of Pitt St, behind the Cathedral, happens to be the Music Department of the King's School. I happen to be the Director of Music there. I was born in Fleetwood and as a young lad was organ scholar at Blackpool Parish Church. Hope you enjoyed your visit to Gloucester! I do like to see what is happening on the Fylde coast, hence a subscriber to your channel!

That infamous house has been demolished. We donnot want to be reminded of the depraved couple who put the town on the map

The problem with Gloucester is the council. Over the years they have had their heads in the sand. No foresight. Before the 1960s there were many beautiful buildings there but so many were demolished and replaced by badly designed modern monstrosities.

The large building that you thought was the University is actually Gloucester's Police Station in an area called 'Bearland' which was once the location of Gloucester Castle. The actual University isn't very far from the odd looking metal statue that you saw, near the Gloucester Docks. You should have visited the Quays as that is where most of Gloucester tax payers money has gone over the past several years, rather than the city centre.

My relative’s hairdresser lived next door to the Wests. Apparently they could hear Fred’s cement mixer going at all hours. True story. 🫣

Another fascinating video. My maternal grandfather was a Gloucester man. Was living at 13 Victory Road before he attested for George V in 1914.

Good to know you have been to Gloucester. I live in nearby Stroud, which is also a town of much history and is known for its magnificent views. Gloucester dates from Roman times - then known as Glevum. There is much Roman history here in the city. It is also worth visiting a few museums. Hope you make a return visit.

I didn't expect to see you in my neck of the woods! I've been watching your Blackpool videos for about 6 months and I always wondered what you'd think of somewhere like Gloucester and the river Severn. Glad you liked the place, despite it's dark history with the murders. I accidently found myself in Cromwell Street when I lived in Gloucester and it was very disturbing. I wonder what's it's like to live in that street now? Do you remember the flesh eating disease in 1994 that also put Gloucestershire in the headlines? I was scared of it spreading to nearby Wiltshire where I lived.

It's a shame to see a decline of a city. Have a safe journey home Stephen

Some lovely old buildings there Stephen, there are two Wetherspoons in Gloucester, the Regal and the Lord High Constable of England which is located on the east side of the docks. You watch yourself after dark pal, especially with your cameras etc, lots of unsavoury people about after dark.

I stayed in Gloucester for a few days a couple of years ago. I found it really odd for such a big city. Very few people walking about and lack of traffic.
