There are always signs when it comes to addiction and relapse, and looking back, these are what many fans suspect were Demi’s…
First, in Demi’s KZbin documentary, “Simply Complicated” released late last year, she opened up about her addiction struggles, and that despite going through rehab, at one point she relapsed and had a scare with a cocaine overdose. Demi made it clear in the doc that sobriety was an ongoing battle for her, with some days being harder than others. She also revealed that while she’s been able to remain sober from drugs and alcohol for years, she’s still struggled with an eating disorder for years.
But Demi’s candidness in the doc didn’t seem to indicate that she was actively struggling with her alcohol and drug addictions. And back in March of this year, she shared with fans that she was celebrating 6 years of sobriety. But some outlets pointed out that around that time, and even earlier, Demi started partying with friends who are not sober themselves, such as Bella Thorne, French Montana, as well as some of her backup dancers.
In March, Bella Thorne and Demi were seen exiting a Hollywood strip club, and while that alone doesn’t mean Demi was drinking or taking drugs, pictures from that night do appear to show Demi looking “out of it”. In one close-up shot posted by Bella Thorne, Demi’s pupils appear to be dilated, which is a common indicator of drug use. One Twitter user claiming to be a Demi insider alleged that Demi was on three substances at the time that photo was taken, including alcohol, weed, and Oxycontin, which is a narcotic Demi admitted to abusing when she was in the deepest throws of her addictions.
Rumors of Demi falling off the wagon started emerging, but it was Demi who came out and admitted that she had through her song, “Sober”, which she released in June. She reveals in the lyrics of the song QUOTE, “Momma, I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore
And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor”. She also sings in the song QUOTE, “I'm sorry that I'm here again, I promise I'll get help, It wasn't my intention, I'm sorry to myself”.
After the song’s release, fans pointed to other signs that seemed to indicate that Demi had not, in fact, gotten help after her relapse. On July 6th, she shaded her longtime sober coach, Mike Bayer with a tweet that read QUOTE, “Good luck on your blog”. Soon after, sources revealed to Us Weekly that she and Mike were no longer in communication. Radar Online also alleged that Demi was asked to leave her position as a co-owner of CAST Centers, the rehabilitation company she and Mike were both partners in. Another source, however, claimed Demi was the one to part ways with the company over branding and money disputes.
Demi also shocked fans when she fired her longtime manager Phil McIntyre earlier this month. There has been some speculation that the contract may have included a sobriety clause to encourage Demi to remain sober. If the deal DID have this stipulation, it would have meant that Demi falling off the wagon while under contract with Phil would have been a dealbreaker.
Some of the most recent indicators that Demi was headed for trouble was how Demi was spending her time while on break from her tour. Demi has been photographed partying more and more with her assistant Kelsey Kershner, as well as some of her backup dancers from her ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ tour, including Dani Vitale, Scott Myrick and Jackie Lloyd. She’s also been spending time with rapper G-Eazy -- the two were spotted clubbing in Hollywood earlier this month. G-Eazy was notoriously arrested in Sweden earlier this year for cocaine possession. The excessive partying and the crowd Demi had been surrounding herself with lately supposedly had some of Demi’s closest friends concerned, and she was rumored to have cut ties with a number of former friends in the last few weeks.
The last sign that Demi was in need of help came just days before her overdose. While singing ‘Sober’ during her Paso Robles show, Demi forgot the last couple lyrics to the song.
The lines Demi forgot were, cryptically and forebodingly, QUOTE, “I promise I’ll get help, it wasn’t my intention, I’m sorry to myself.”
One Twitter user responded to the incident QUOTE, “And no, she didnt forget the last 3 lines of sober. She just didnt want to get help anymore, she thought she was free…”

Why are you analysing someone's public relapse like this. Please remember that Demi could have died...and she's not out of the water yet. She needs to get help, she has to want to get sober or it won't work. She's surrounded by toxic enablers and pushing away the people who try to help. My only wish is for her to receive help and find love and happiness within herself, without the use of drugs or alcohol. Love and light to my queen always!

C J ... What ? They're trying to find some clues on how no one noticed . Which the concert was a big hint itself . Demi last song words are the same words she have mentioned and stated plentyof times before the song . Also , Yeah Demi almost lost her life . What's your point ? you go on about how she need positive people .. I'm not getting your point .

Sadly this is exactly what would have happened if she did die. We have to deal with people using this for headlines and clicks. We just have to be grateful that we don’t have to see this coverage with the knowledge that demi isn’t dead because it would hurt so much more if we had to see all of this and we didn’t have demi anymore.

This is a new low, even for someone as close to the dirt as a gossip channel, this is a New Low. A young woman is in the hospital. Famous or not, she is just a young woman struggling, and you vultures are trying to use her deeply personal crisis as a way to get views, likes and comments (which ironically, I am contributing to by writing this), by making as many videos as possible about a situation you know next to nothing about... Wow.

It doesn't change the fact that this is the issue they're 'reporting' on. It's actually apphorannt. It's, to put it simply, just rude. I can't believe this is what human have come to. I hope she gets past all the pain and the raw softness will heal over time and that, she. will. get. better. Even if everybody else gives up on her, her Lovatics will be there for her as she struggles. To every person who managed to get down here, thank you, you've contributed. Tbh, I didnt take it as being insensitive. You can take all these warning signs and help the next person you see who does things like this- cutting ties with people close to her, going out with people who notoriously party, and even admitting there is a problem are all signs that someone else needs to step in and help, whether or not it's wanted

All of those were clear signs, specially the song, but people around her did anything? No! Some friends she has, partying with her knowing she started using again. Carla Arancibia Suazo ... Yeah .. However , her fans or any human being in general should've noticed the obvious signs . Instead didn't . Either way what could her friends or family do ? Demi could easily deny it and her new 'friends' like Bella Thorne . Then who would be the bad guy ? Now even if they do speak out about it .. They will be called fake , mean , and useless .. Then people will tell them to go kill themselves . I'm guaranteed multiple are already starting to tell them that . So your 'madness' is unnecessary . If all her 'fans' at least noticed the obvious signs it would be a different outcome ... Of course there would be a war and then the other side will be proven wrong .

Kaylee Muyu her life coach did a blog not that long ago about what it’s like working with celebrities. I remember Demi tweeted something like “good luck with that blog of yours” and everyone was commenting ooooo the shade etc. then later she did tweets about friendship, plus she is no longer friends with marissa and people say it’s over Demi not going to her birthday party. She fired her manager, then unfollowed nick Jonas. Everyone kept saying they must have done something to Demi, but what if her addiction is what made them stop talking to her or the reason for fallout. The first time they tried to get Demi sober they said in the documentary they threatened if she doesn’t stop they would leave. Maybe this time they actually did leave. There is only so much you can do for a person.

Also , That would take months or years until she gets better if she decides to... So are they supposed to be like .. Oh , Hey ! Demi is now happy and planning on staying sober this time permanently ! This situation and stuff they're pointing out is actually important and they're stating the scary obvious that people skipped on.

This can help others recognize drug abuse signs in loved ones. My boyfriend passed away from drug overdose 4 years ago, I was younger and much more naive. A video like this could've helped open my eyes. People need to be aware so if Demi or anyone shows signs like these in the future, they can be intervened!
6 жыл бұрын
I think it's a very sensitive topic. This channel is only posting this video so they can get views. Some of these are some obvious signs that every fan has already seen, like her song sober? I mean, cmon do better then that. Plenty of Demi's real fans have noticed her struggling over the years, it's clear in some interviews when she's going through a very hard time and it's not anything new. Us as fans can't stop it, all we can do is pray for her and anyone dealing with addiction. But these signs are the obviousl ones that we've all already noticed. They could've at least looked for some of the more difficult ones to notice in interviews. But this was just a video for views, because this channel knew that Demi fans would watch it to see if they missed any of the signs.

Reez Madelline they didn’t have to use demi they could’ve just done a video like “warning signs of an overdose” instead of posting a video using Demi’s hospitalization for views ONE DAY after it happens. I just don’t think it was very appropriate and it was far too soon. Speaking for myself, I’m still grieving over it and there are other fans that could still be too.

In the AA rooms we talk about how the choices you make leading up to your relapse happen long before you actually pick up your drug of choice. Your relapse happens the moment you choose to go to that party, hang out with that person, skip that therapy appointment, etc. It's a chain of events and so is the road to sobriety. Making difficult choices day after day to stay sober. But we also say that's what addicts do - we relapse. Just know that it's possible to get sober y'all just keep trying!💖

Irina Guillenea This can help others recognize drug abuse signs in loved ones. My boyfriend passed away from drug overdose 4 years ago, I was younger and much more naive. A video like this could've helped open my eyes. People need to be aware so if Demi or anyone shows signs like these in the future, they can be intervened!

Anneetta Life did she take the drugs? Yes. Was somebody forcing her with a gun to her head to do it? No. But the thing about addiction is that it is a compulsive disorder. Something you can’t control. She had been partying a lot in clubs lately, what kind of environment do you think she was around in those places? I don’t think they were exactly reading the bible.. besides look at the people she has been hanging out with some of them actually were caught with drugs... now think, if you’ve been feeling really bad emotionally and your way to cope used to be numbing yourself with drugs and you are feeling the strong urge to do it again AND your friends and people around you are actually using... they are facilitating a toxic behavior that she, like many people in the world, has to fight with EVERYDAY. You are right, I don’t know what happened, but neither do you. You don’t know what happens in her head or how she feels, so don’t act like she “chose” to do it because having an overdose and almost dying is her favorite thing to do.

Sofia Isbelo I agree, they're just trying to make a video on a very sensitive topic because they know it'll get views. Any real fan already saw her struggling, plenty of us have seen her struggling for years, it's not anything new. These "examples" aren't any different from what we've already seen. All we can do is pray for her and anybody else going through addiction. But this video was just for views.

This is one of the biggest reasons why I think degrassi is such a good show to watch. Because it'll show all the signs that you may not regularly see in someone who's about to do something horrible. It's a show that will actually give real education on disorders like bipolar and it'll show what it's like to have addiction and how hard it really is to overcome. Even if it is just a show and it's all fake. Those situations in real life people actually deal with. I know I'll be referring other parents to watch the show to help them try to understand and prevent their kids from making a mistake. But in the end, please everybody remember that we are all just humans. We all have relapses and mistakes. Its human nature. Don't blame demi for doing this to herself. The only thing she needs right now is support. The best thing you can do for someone who's hit rock bottom is slowly ease them out to be happier and then talk to them about their problem. because the only way they'll change is if they want to. Not because you want them to.

As heartbreaking as it is, since her second Documentary, i thought about something like that. In the 2 Doc. she made it clear, that she loves it and that the first documentary were basically a complete lie. it's kinda the same stuff she has done before and during the time her first documentary came out. everyone who saw the second one, knows how it was at the first time. She doesn't wanted it to be over. she did this before, pushing everyone away, and then she got into the serious rehab were she wanted to be sober for the first time. I hope she can take the help she needs and not pushing everyting and everyone away like the first time. but i don't know. i have a feeling that it will not be the last time and maybe, someday she dies because of it, because she couldn't stop, because she loved it to much. but i hope for the best. she defintiely has to take a break and/or do less work and has to surround herself with better people. people who don't do drugs and alcohol and people who won't let her use drugs and alcohol, when Demi wanted to. And maybe, it would be better if her Mom would be her guardian so that good people do the choices for her even if she doesn't want it to but someone has to stop her if she can't do it on her own (for the next time or i don't know how the situation is now)

Lauren ... No , but to influence her ... Yes . Bella can't make Demi go back on drugs .. Unless she got a knife to her throat or gun to her head . Bella is a drug addict herself .. Bella is a bad influence on Demi . Now cause her mind is being influenced like crazy by her 'friends'... Demi didn't feel she needed help and stayed on drugs . If a good influence came she most likely in my opinion would have ignored it but if multiple ... Then Demi would've at least considered to stop . Bella must've known but Bella herself think it's alright to do drugs . Bella is part of the blame and she deserves to be blamed too .

I know this is old, but I went to her Future Now tour with Nick Jonas in Portland Oregon on August 20th 2016... August 20th is Demi’s birthday. And sadly, I could sense something was up with her at the time. I really believe her split with Wilmer caused her to spiral and eventually relapse. But from my experience-based off how low energy and uninterested Demi seemed the entire night, by saying things like “do any of you watch UFC??” And followed it up with “I really wish I was watching the fight right now. Not that I don’t love being here, I just don’t want to miss it.”-I got the impression that maybe she was using again. Nick also performed more than she did, and he had a better energy to him. I didn’t let this experience affect how much I love and support Demi. I was just disappointed and worried about her. Thinking maybe she fell off the wagon again. And hoping she was getting the help she needed.

While this video could have been better, alerting people as to what "relapse mode" looks like is actually very important and much needed. Unfortunately, this video missed the mark. When she stopped her meal plan back in January it was the first sign for me. You show several signs of potential relapse before you actually do. Relapse happens in your mind LONG before you actually drink or drug. It's a disease of the mind and your decision making skills are altered way before you actually do anything. People with addictive minds have certain tools that they need to use. The moment they stop, all bets are off.

If you know anything about substance abuse you would know that opioids/heroin or anything of that sort would make your pupils like pin needles if you are using them. If you are abusing drugs that are uppers- cocaine, meth, adderall would make your pupils dilated. So your statement you made saying you can tell in the close up picture of Demi that her eyes are dilated and an insider had said she was on alcohol, weed and opioids that night would not be accurate. If it was accurate, her pupils would have been like pin needles. .

With all she is going through this is probably the last thing she needs right now, she already has all of social media talking about her and then you’re going to go out and say we knew she was struggling and this is how. Maybe instead of this you should do a video of why Demi is strong , or why we love her/support her. She needs all the support she can get and this isn’t helping her at all.

this is not over analyzing the situation. people battling with addiction and recovery go into a phase people call “relapse mode”. this is where you can tell someone is going to relapse even months before it happens. they usually cut ties with people that are sober (she did), start surrounding themselves with people that use (she did), and push away the people keeping them sober (she fired her sober counselor and manager). obviously her fans couldn’t tell for certain but it was obvious to her friends and family that something was wrong. after the overdose people started to realize the red flags. it’s just a different way to look at things. it needs to be said so people who know others with addiction and are working on sobriety can see the red flags that someone is starting to relapse before they do.

Being sober is a daily struggle that lasts a lifetime. Think of Phillip Seymour Hoffman who was clean from Heroin for about 20 years. Only to relapse which had eventually led to his passing away. I’ve been clean for almost 6 years now from a Heroin addiction. Regardless of being sober, I’m a Heroin addict. Doesn’t matter how long an addict is clean for... once they develop their addiction, their an addict for life. Sobriety does get easier with time. The more clean time you have, the easier it gets. As the NA saying goes “take it one day at a time”. Worry about staying clean today. Not tomorrow. Live by that now. Each day. Hope Demi can get sober again. Such a beautiful, talented person. Just remember, no one wants to be an addict. I grew up with a privileged life- amazing vacations, going to the country club, getting new cars from my parents, etc. I worked part time at the vet during my senior year of high school. When about 30 of my friends started using heroin. I was the one person out of my group who didnt even smoke pot or ciggs. That was until the end of my senior year. Constantly being asked to try it. Always refusing. Seems like every time I had gotten a bout of depression.. I would finally agree to being asked to smoke a cigg. Then pot. Etc. It was too late before I realized what I had done to myself. I can blame my friends all I want about their constant peer pressure. But I made the choice. Now I’m dealing with remaining sober everyday. How I wish I never even tried any of it. It was really crazy the amount of people from My school that used heroin. It became a rapid epidemic. With me, I’m from an upper middle class area of NJ (The Sopranos were filmed in my town). It’s my go to when describing where I from since the creator is from my town. Using the Real towns names for all the locations in the show. Any fan of that show would remember the crackhouse in Newark. Literally a 15 minute drive away from The Soprano House. Which is in the same county. I loved going down with my friends to cope drugs. It was always a fun time. Being 17, when you and your friends get your licenses.. just the freedom of driving and blasting music with friends was amazing. We’d cop dope, snort it then hang out or do something. For us, it became a social drug. Weird. But then addiction happened. And that made using heroin no longer this great time. Using just to feel “normal” so you don’t go through withdrawal. Spending all your money on drugs. The list of friends who’ve died from a drug overdose began to grow. It was horrible. I hit my bottom as seeing how this is no way to live. But knowing all the bad.. my addict mind still has those cravings to use. The cravings don’t last too long though. I try to stay busy until the urge is gone. I tell myself all the bad that comes from that evil drug. So much to live for. I don’t want to be an addict. But I am. And it’ll always be a struggle. I can say I’m clean almost 6 years. Clean today. And hope to always remain sober. I hope this extremely long comment has given some perspective from a Heroin addict. I wish all the luck to Demi. So many talented people who were loved by so many have died of a heroin overdose. I don’t want her to be added to the roster.

Leon Charles I know she nearly died and that’s terrifying but she can get through it and that shows how strong she is. She’s probably really upset that she’s losing fans over this and I’m sticking by her side through the hard times like a TRUE fan would do!

I can only imagine how difficult addiction is and I really like Demy and her ideals...but tbh she had a choice...drugs or rehab. She chose the easy way even though she chose rehab 6 years ago..i don't know what's in her head or whatnot but as long as she's had help before and she knew she could ask for it again she was wrong to choose drugs again. No hate I really like her and hope she is and will be ok. I don't want her to die she is very young and talented and a very good person. She should change friends too...she needs a better environment

Mary KSTom choosing drugs over rehab is most certainly not easy either. I had a drug addiction for almost 5 years, and I still struggle with it despite me being sober for 5 months and in recovery for 2 years. It is a constant war in your head reminding you of how wonderful those times felt, but also telling you that you are better than that. Along with all the reasons why you should pick back up again, but reminding you of how far you’ve come and how much you hated withdrawling.

Britt Anne a lot of people don't but I don't think she was stating that's what's going on with demi. She was sharing her personal story and the fact that she was willing to talk about it was probably a struggle for her.

She did it once and she can do it again! We are all here for her, give her time and space! We are not judging her just supporting her, we know she can rise above this!

god, these celebrities don't think about anyone other than themselves. The entire world knows Demi struggles with substance abuse yet they still continue to go out and party with her instead of telling her she needs to cool it down a little. It is just as much their fault as it is hers that she is in the hospital right now. I don't care how much of a "good time" you are having, surrounding people who have been six years sober with the things you know they struggle with is so messed up.

Demi please get help, coming from a mom that held her son in her arms as he was dying of heroin OD, you deserve life and your mom deserves to watch her babies grow up. Don’t worry about what others say, I know addiction is a long hard demon of a disease and we’re all human we make mistakes, you just keep fighting the good fight baby girl, keep your head up. Addiction is a disease. It's chronic, progressive, potentially fatal, and there is no known cure. Those are the four criteria that classify anything as a disease. I wish I knew her, I could be a good asset for her. I've been in her shoes, except mine aren't Loubitons!! Demi is so talented and so incredibly beautiful. From head to toe and inside out!! I really wish I could help her when she's struggling... No one can understand how it is unless you're an addict as well☆

Stop trying to get attention from someone else's struggles. That's selfish. We don't need to know the signs that were noticed beforehand. We need to focus on Demi and her wellbeing. Let's live in the present and hope that this strong and beautiful woman can get the help she needs. Her true fans are the ones who are sticking by her side. We love you Demi ♥️

This can help others recognize drug abuse signs in loved ones. My boyfriend passed away from drug overdose 4 years ago, I was younger and much more naive. A video like this could've helped open my eyes. People need to be aware so if Demi or anyone shows signs like these in the future, they can be intervened!

So sad the World go for the wrong side when a star take abusive drug we support her but when it is no famous people the society reject them Demi is not a good model I Know that nobody is perfect but sometimes when you choose a road you must assume if it 's was a politic personality the World who have bash him but it' s Demi Lovato she is famous so Forgive her seriously ??? I hope she will be alright but she disappointed me I Know her since Camp Rock it's really terrible
