So you’re struggling,
And you can’t help but feel like you’re falling behind in life,
Like deep down, you know, something isn’t quite right,
And honestly, it’s eating you alive.
When people ask you “what are you doing with your life?”
You say “umm, I’m just going with the flow”
Which is basically code for.. “yeah, I don’t really know”.
You’re supposed to have everything figured out right?
You’re supposed to just know who you are?
But you can’t help but look around and think man, I don’t even know where to start.
You go from being a carefree child to a life full of responsibility,
Decisions now have consequences and you’re sat there, questioning your ability.
You’re expected to have a five year plan - house, kids, car,
Yet you’re still standing at the starting pointing feeling like you’re not going to make it very far.
Feels like you’re always the one at the back and everyone else, they’re ahead of the game,
Everyone’s competing, there’s so much pressure, when did life become one big race.
You’re not even trying to excel at this point, you’re just trying to keep up with the pace,
And you’re scared to admit, even to yourself, that maybe you’re in last place.
You thought you’d be further than where you are,
You thought you’d have everything figured out by now,
That you’d be working towards your goals,
And your life would have magically sorted itself out.
And you know you shouldn’t compare but you can’t help but look around,
Feels like everyone else knows what they’re doing,
But you can’t seem to get there somehow.
It’s so toxic but you can’t help but compare.
We see everyone’s highlight reel and can’t help but wish we were there.
We become insecure, we become jealous,
We start making up excuses about how life’s not fair.
We’re so focused on how the world perceives us, when we should be focusing on ourselves,
It’s okay to fail and struggle sometimes, but more importantly, it’s okay to ask for help.
We choose to hide our problems, we don’t talk about it, but chances are ether are people out there who feel the exact same way,
Feeling behind in life is pretty normal, and feeling like you’re not at your best is okay,
Instead of beating ourselves up we should be motivating ourselves to change,
But change in a healthy and positive way.
Life’s not a race and we’re all on different paths,
Instead of comparing ourselves to other we should focus on what we already have.
Feeling unsure about things, doesn’t mean you’ve failed, it’s a sign that you’re figuring yourself out,
Changing paths, learning new things, discovering yourself - isn’t that what life’s all about?
The key for me - has been to keep myself busy.
Take every opportunity to work hard on your goals,
And in time, eventually, you’ll start to feel whole.

That poem was me at the start of 2016. I ended up out of a 6 year long term relationship in another country, I had my life and everything on track and then within the blink of an eye I was right back in my home country with no job and no friends. I was 29 and I was back at the very start, living in my parents house. I was so depressed with bad thoughts. Then I applied for an art course and got accepted, a year later I finished with top marks. Now I'm going to Uni to study animation and living in my own apartment with an incredible partner feeling the best I've felt in years, I'm so genuinely happy. Thank you for sharing this with us Taz :)

I'm a senior in high school and honestly this hit home and opened my eyes. Everyone knows what they plan on doing later on after high school and I'm just kinda "going with the flow". It really is tough having everyone pressure you to figure out something as if you have to pick something right away or else you'll fail at life. Idk it's stressful but this is a beautiful poem.

I just went out cause I was feeling so low, just having one of those days where everything on my mind just hit me, and how lost I feel these days, amongst other crap that I keep ignoring. I come back and the first thing I did - I went to KZbin to look for a ClickForTaz video I could watch. I click on this one and the second I hear the poem...I cried. It's everything I've been feeling. And it was everything I needed to hear. I may only be a very recent subscriber, but Taz, thank you so much. Thank you for making me laugh, making me smile, for inspiring me, for being real. i love how this poem not only talks about the struggles of the beginning of adulthood, but about how society pressures us to become adults and to rid ourselves of what makes us happy.

This poem really touched me. I finished school this year and had no idea what to do after school. Now I am doing a gap year and I still feel lost and confused about all the choices. No study course seems to fit to me. People ask me what I want to do next year and my honest answer is always: "I don't know.". Im going back to college to do beauty theropy on the 3rd and i feel like everyone else in the class is better than this that i am, i am scared to start because i always feel like im not good enough no matter how i enjoy the subject! Thank you taz for putting this out,it really did made me think about being positive and to calm down and just focus on good things 2018 was the year i became the most depressed (something happoned in our family and it ruined me) but i also discoverd who i am as a person as in sexuality, who i want to be and goals in life There is no cure to depression but you can make the best of things, i have a diary for every blackhole or depression attack, i write down what i was think then and later i read it and think about what i could do to fix that You are all worth it and should never rush into anything just go at your own pace
