Put the lettuce in a cup of water at least 1 hour before using them. They get nice and crispy and it’s a great way to keep them crispy in your fridge

I was just going to say that 😁. Just cut the root end off 1st so the leaves can suck up the water. Works wonders with any lettuce, celery, most herbs...

Use slightly moistened newspapers and wrap your salads etc to store in the fridge . I bought fresh salad heads and stored them for almost 2.5 weeks keeping them fresh and crispy just making sure to re-moisture the paper and removing the odd yellowish leave occasionally. Has to be mentioned though that this was fresh salad from the field yet did absolutely surprise me 😊

Can I suggest watching Budget Eats on Delish. June's series doing budget eats was seriously the only reason I watched their channel, she is by far one of the most unique thinkers when it comes to food & cooking that I've ever seen. I think half the adventure is getting as much variety as you can in your set budget, finding places that allow you to stretch that budget even more. She'd find dollar bone bags & make her own beef bone broth & there's still meat in the bones so she always pulled all of it off once cooked & it was like a 2 in 1 for only $1. She'd find dollar produce vendors, buy dried beans & lentils to make her own flower using anything she could to stretch that budget beyond anything I could do & she was doing this in New York one of the most expensive cities in the US. Just some food for thought

Hey Taz, just a friendly advice when you are using tomato purée you could add that first with some oil and marinate it in the oil, until it is more dark, so as to be more flavorful 🍅🍅🍅

Hello hello my advice to anyone trying to stick to a budget yet consume fruits - peel and cut up your bananas, seal them and freeze if they're starting to look funky, you can use them to blend them into your yogurt, milkshake, pancakes or porridge in the morning, as they thaw very quickly! :)

Try getting a box of Japanese curry like Golden Curry or Vermont Curry. The roux cubes are so flavorful and you just throw them in the pot or instapot towards the end and stir. Japanese curry is sweeter than other curry so cutting up and apple or sweet potatoes pairs really well. It's a great way to eat more veggies. Throw peas, carrots, potatoes, onions or whatever you think sounds good in there & it will most likely work.

With a base of potatoes, Carrots & celery (which I hate raw) you can make a variety of soups and pasta sauces which can really help if you're on a budget. Adding Sultana's into the porridge and stewed apple is an extra option

Been following you since your first budget video and I could relate to you a lot back in the day. We're actually the same age and I was also discovering the world of living as an independent being. Now that you've integrated your cooking skills (so effortlessly btw!!) I feel like we've grown up at the same time as I've also been learning how to meal prep and get the most out of what I had. Thanks for this, Taz!! Taking notes for next week, everything looked super yummy 🥰

Hey Taz, you are doing great with food eh, a quick thing to add whenever you feel like you are missing on seasoning in the food it’s mostly you put in less salt, just try to add a bit of salt (even after the curry is cooked) and try it then, it will be awesome with that.

I live off £0 during the winter because of dumpster diving. The containers literally works as fridges because the temperature outside is the exact same as in your fridge at home. The stores throw out SO MUCH good food, and most of the time they don't break open their packaging, so it's literally like fresh food, just for free. You should try it.

Hey, the reason why they are wonky boxes, is mostly because some of the products are in packages and are not getting good to sell, but the others next to it are still really good, so the ones are not good go to the bin, the ones that are good go to the box. It’s a good value for the amount of fruit and veg you get. You can even get tomatoes, cucumber and strawberries, it’s different every day

I know it’s been said, and I know she was shopping at a cheap supermarket but fuck food is so cheap in the UK. I’ve watched quite a lot of UK food videos and the price in the dear supermarkets is about the same as the cheapest supermarket (Aldi) over here in Australia. Eggs are currently $5 a doz, cheese $10-14 a kg. A bag of frozen oven chips has gone from $1.89 to $4 since the start of Covid.

suggestion: when you cook a meal with meat, i suggest u fry the meat on both sides (think it's called searing it??) and then putting it on the side and then frying the garlic and onions and spices. when finished with frying veggies, add the meat back in and then u can add the sauce, put the lid in and let the meat cook. alternatively, if u have an oven/air fryer, finish cooking it in there and just add it at the end :)

I have never seen these boxes, and i shop here a lot you need to portion size the items better, like the rice pasta etc. so not to over do too much. many items do last longer than a week, like 1kg of rice. you can put oats in a blender and make oat flour. you need to work on just making cheap meals and give the cost to make or look at £1 meals you get from stores and make them for less

Hey Taz, It is crazyyyyy that for 25 pounds you got SO much food, even converted, that is $50 Australian dollars and that much wouldn't even buy half of what you have got haha, cost of living really do be like that... GREAT VID! love from AU
@EmmaHope88
@EmmaHope88 11 ай бұрын
The average Australian also earns more than the average Brit, and it isn't just food either, is it? There are all those other costs and they can be so different from country to country. Our food is cheaper than in other (neighboring) countries (continental Europe) but our electricity costs are higher, so are certain other things like health insurance and co. Those costs aren't so obvious to tourists or when you do videos like this. The average income is also lower than in some of those neighboring countries. I watched an Australian grocery haul and meal plan video yesterday (she mostly shops at stores in Brisbane, but lives further out). Australian food always used to be more expensive than ours - at least most things, but the chicken breasts and olive oil and a lot of other things are now cheaper in Australia than they are here, some are about the same - like green asparagus, and we do not have the highest food prices around - though I do spend around 50% more than I did pre-Covid. My income is definitely lower than that of pretty much all Australians' I've met and talked to thus far.
@harsikamanoranjen9432
@harsikamanoranjen9432 11 ай бұрын
@@EmmaHope88 Thanks for the insight, I wasn't complaining haha, apologies if it sounded like that. Merely expressing how different it is from country to country. Although an average Australian earns more, the cost of living has gone up, the income has not to be frankly clear. If we go back pre COVID, a packet of chips costs $4 AUD, now a packet of the same chips, costs around $7.50 (estimated). You also see a lot of suppliers (whom I work with) increasing the cost of products, just because the cost of everything is going higher. I had an increase of 33% for each product being sold in our Woolies or Coles for example. That is a major increase on all aspects, from costs to manufacture, costs to buy and cost to retailers.
@EmmaHope88
@EmmaHope88 11 ай бұрын
@@harsikamanoranjen9432 Yeah, same here. It sucks, doesn't it? Though some companies are definitely trying to up their win margins. They usually struggle with that around here because the grocery market in this country is apparently one of the most competitive in the world and people simply refuse to buy things and switch stores when one of them overdoes it (with their store brand things - let alone name brand things). So some companies, and not even the grocery stores themselves, are trying to use this situation to their advantage to up the prices more than necessary. Some stores are 'at war' with some of the big name companies now and are refusing to sell their products because the clients would just take their anger out on the stores rather than the companies that are asking for higher prices and are forcing the stores to up the prices for products. Our dairy products have gotten a bit cheaper lately. So there's a tiny positive.
