@@ly9386 actually I know people that really don’t try or want to save money. I remember one time going on a trip with a friend and we stopped for lunch. We both got a sandwich and they had a deal that for $1 more you could make it a meal with a drink and bag of chips. She purposely paid more by rejecting the meal deal and only getting a drink. I asked her why she didn’t just get the meal but she said she didn’t want the chips. It really boggled my thrift-centric mind. You literally paid more. You could have thrown the chips away, gave them away or saved them for another time.

As an American living in a mid to low cost area, the prices of these things still blow my mind. I shop at a lower budget grocer and a bag of frozen veg is still more like $3 alone. When I was 20 I was living on canned ravioli, sliced cheese, and an arizona tea. Cost me around $2-3. But I will say, seasoning makes a world of difference for something like this. Basic seasoning you should keep around is salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. These 4 things in various combinations can improve most dishes.

I cannot articulate what I found so charming about this. I also love watching June’s budget eats videos - but part of the fun there is the voyeuristic pleasure of watching a genuinely skilled chef get creative with restricted ingredients. This was charming for a completely different reason - you didn’t become the Iron Chef, but you fed yourself reasonably healthy, occasionally tasty food on a tight budget and, as always, you radiated positive (slightly chaotic) energy.

Tips on the porridge/oatmeal 😝 (bc I’ve been through this before 😭) : - pay attention to the oatmeal while it’s in the microwave because it tends to rise up and overflow in the bowl - stir it for about 30 seconds - then put it back to heat up for about 1 min and 30 seconds - repeat this until the oats start to look full (instead of flat and dry like how they were before) - i usually add honey and sugar so you can try that as well if you’d like - now, you enjoy!

@@mendesarmy1235 I think it’s a bit of a misconception sometimes that people on benefits are lazy, don’t think about food planning etc. Of course there are some people like that, but I think it mostly comes down to convenience buying a £1 pizza from the shops as it’s easy and quick food, but isn’t something that’ll last a few days in comparison to a bag of pasta for example. But I do agree that a little planning can help out massively with knowing how to buy food that’ll last

Random video ideas, because our girl Taz has asked: what are your plans for life after the current health crisis; talk about your skincare buys, product regrets and favorites; what are your top tips for young adults looking for a flat to rent; what are your dreams for the next year, 5 years, 10 years; and please, just do more random vlogs, cause we love you for you, Taz. Hugs, from Germany.

I learned to cook porridge in the microwave without overflowing through trial and error. First of all, use boiling water and let porridge sit for 3-5 minutes before cooking. Cook for whatever time you need, depending of your microwave settings, but in 30 seconds intervals. Adding sugar somehow helps too.

Nice video. To make the banana pancakes a little better, you can add cinnamon or cardamom to the flour, and if you want them fluffier, about a quarter of a teaspoon of baking soda or baking powder and a pinch of salt, or a little (half a teaspoon) of vanilla extract and/or a few tablespoons of yogurt to the mashed banana. Little things like onions and garlic add a lot of flavor, and a little bit of garlic goes a long way. Also dried onion, garlic powder, chilli, Italian seasoning, or a little bit of soy sauce or vinegar helps add flavor. Some supermarket store brand products are the same as branded because the supermarket's distributor buys from the same manufacturer.

something I found out recently, Tuna in oil + spaghetti and a little bit of olive oil is amazing you just cook the pasta like you normally would - boil water, add salt, add pasta, cook until al dente. Then just open a can of tuna, crush them to tiny chunks, add the pasta on it, add some olive oil. Mix, and voila. Tuna pasta. Seriously, it tastes amazing. I never expected it. Super simple, pretty cheap, really yummy!

10 Canadian dollars is only £5.75 so between the 3 shops Taz spent closer to $20. Also she bought the majority in Lidl and Aldi which are budget supermarkets and even then she seemed to be choosing the cheapest options. @@essiessiessi true, but we pay for it massively in other services and haven't gotten close to the infrastructure modeled in Canada. We have been living in austerity here for many many years. Things that can save time when cooking: Section the ingredients needed for each recipe on the counter together so you don’t have to search for it in the middle of cooking. Gather all utensils and cooking implements needed for your cooking ahead of time and stage them ahead of time where you need them when cooking that way you don’t have to run back and forth every time as that does take some time even with a small kitchen.
