Omg when she said her hair was cut in June yet the stylist said it has been 4months, it made me want to cry. I find this whole situation so sad and emotional because all we want is answers. I was on the live today with the stylist speaking on webbing and making light of the situation because it’s all “normal” and that her hair was like a spider web (referring to shrinkage). They know exactly what we are speaking about but chooses to ignore, block, lie, gaslit, manipulate when hair is already an emotional subject for most and the stylist-client relationship is already a strained one. Now people that have followed this method for a few years and paid for their “expertise” are left all alone trying to figure it out.

I purposely decided not to watch that live because that stylist blocked me on her entire social media channels, probably a year ago when I did a duet on Tiktok pointing out, that oiling the scalp/hair is not exclusively a practice coming from slaves protecting themselves from bugs eating them up. She has at least to specify and even if, those slaves came from somewhere with a rich culture. I am from Africa, my mom did my hair with shea butter & grease growing up. Would mean literally the entire African continent before being enslaved were fighting bugs? Arabs, Persians & Indians too? Some of these stylists are super quick to block people when you mention a sign of disagreement. At this point I can’t take them serious, now trying to give expert advise in lives. They know exactly what people are talking about. 🥹

@@RabielleParfaitThose ignorant and uneducated stylists methods seem rooted in anti blackness. They claim that their methods are "more advanced" because it's America and they "define curls " instead of working with the actual texture not weighted down. Yes in the Caribbean as well we use oils and butter, people with 4b and 4c hair don't walk around with hard crunchy "curls" but flowy afros because they use butter and oils. Actual black scientists and historians should talk about this, because these women aren't educated enough to try educate us about hair.

Listen. My head of hair can not do curly cuts! I got 2 of them in 2021 after doing the detox. Decided to booked with a local natural hair stylist 5 minutes away. She blew out my hair and assessed my ends stating that they were "see through". I was in shock cause my curly cut was 2 months prior. She recreated the shape of my first curly cut and it was so much better! I still had tangling/webbing at my roots every time I did a wash and go with products from BGC list and yes I asked about this in SSC and got no clear answers. I ditched the wash n go's and did twist outs because the wash and go's were too frustrating. Now I understand that by eliminating leave ins my hair was lacking moisture especially at my roots. I'm trying to reverse the dryness by using leave ins again. I'm disappointed that they are choosing to deflect, ignore and block people rather than have a meaningful and necessary conversation cause this is a real issue! Thank you for sharing and talking about this!

I have come to the realization that if one is going to wear their hair out 90% of the time rather than with their ends tucked in a protective style, deep conditioning weekly or at least biweekly is necessary. More so when you wear wash n gos mostly and even more when color treated. It drives me crazy that BGC stylists are color treated and they dont advocate for leave ins at least. When i didnt use a leave in once with my color treated hair wash n go, my hair was SO dry!

I would only agree if that person’s wng technique is actually damaging their hair. I’m a proponent of weekly deep conditioning isn’t necessary outside of severe damage, like with color, relaxers, and heat. Average wear and tear deep conditioning for me is 6-8 weeks, if that. Conditioning with rinse outs and leave-ins should give healthy hair what it needs to remain healthy is my stance on the matter.

In this stylist vs youtube influencer war, the stylists did not acknowledge all the heat, chemical and mechanical damage we were running from after years of blindly trusting them and why we were forced to find new ways of caring for our hair, including new sources of information, new products and new styles. We have to continue looking at and listening to our own hair to see the outcome of what stylists are telling us now. How many of us willfully ignored the "hydrated but ashy" look knowing deep down that it couldn't be a good sign? Thank you Narada for standing up for us. I find these new stylist to be very weak and insecure. Believe you said it sometime ago that everyone wants to act like they created something. I feel curly cuts are for certain curls types and textures. Why can't these stylist understand that not every method if for every texture?. Why can't they understand that every client needs to be evaluated separately, to see if they are a good candidate?. Not just a good candidate for a certain method, but also a candidate for them as their stylist?. Now that these stylist are getting criticized not only from their followers, but also people that pass by their videos. They want to act like they are a victim. So blocking and sending copywrite strikes is supposed to suffice for her fucking up that woman's hair?. Come on now. She sent that strike because you set the spotlight on the issue.

I'm not sure if it's some sort of ego trip but it seems many only do professional discussions when it's within their own "field" and own people. At this point even white curly hairstylists have their discussions but I've not heard them block each other. They don't feel like a hairstylist is a hairstylist (with a licensed background or not, but with experience). They feel they're curls specialists of tight curly hair and not just "natural hairstylists", whatever this means. I remember those bold statements when they said influencers may just be their own natural hair experts with unsolicited opinions, but to leave the real talk to the professionals doing multiple different hair strands every day and knowing actual hair science because they went to cosmetology school. So who knows how they really feel about you and other hairstylists that do natural hair, but simply not doing wash&go sets on a regular basis and cut it curly. At this point you are one of the few black hairstylists thinking out loud, publicly giving balance and make our brain cells think. Something they should be doing if they really came up with this way of caring for hair.

Wow!! I have been doing no oils and butters for the last few months and didnt even know this was going on! I have a stylist who is guiding me along the way. She cuts my hair on stretched hair and then shapes it when its in its curly state since she knows my complaints are about my ends - we both know they are bad lol. I'm doing mostly twist outs for now, but one of my subscribers told me to use a leave in as a base - I thought that was just for twist outs. Glad I came across this video because I have an appointment coming up and I need some questions answered! lol I was told to use BGC as a guide, but not an end all be all. I do appreciate what no oils and butters has done to my hair as far as the hydration, but at the same time if my hair ever responds to something negatively, of course I'm going to switch it up. If the no oils/butters was working for Rosie and Shelly at one point great, but why are the stylist mad at them for simply sharing their perspective and experience?! Everything doesnt work for everybody. Sidenote: I'm a new subscriber and I enjoy your videos! Your sound effects are sending me! 😂😂

I just watched a live by Abena, Embrace Natural Beauty. She had a client concerned about her ends. She did a blow out and after 16 weeks her ends needed trimming but we’re not split. So, I believe it depends on the stylist. Also, Abena is not a BGC stylist.

Hi, I know this post is old but if someone is reading can someone answer my question?The curly cuts are done so that the hair can keep its shape/style when in the curly state correct? Is there a healthy way to achieve and maintain this? Is it possible to get a blown out cut that will achieve the curly cut that is desired? Hopefully I am not too confusing
@AfrikanHairGod
@AfrikanHairGod 6 ай бұрын
No one cut is the same so that question is too broad to answer outright. Please everyone's hair is different and will reflect each type of cut differently. The short answer is yes and no. The stylists should be able to understand what is necessary to achieve your goals while not forsaking the health of your hair. They don't have to be exclusive of each other. Even if you you need to use multiple techniques to achieve the look.

Yoooo, i dont know nothing about these curly girl cuts. Prior to these videos, I'd only heard that term about 10 years ago. I never got one because I always felt like the hair wouldn't be leveled when I flat ironed. I believe everything AHG says because 2009 - 2011, i had gotten into dusting my ends. My hair got to waist length. I was leaning heavy on wash n gos. When my sister, a trained stylist finally flat ironed my hair, we were shocked to see the damage. (she was living in a different country). Curly, my hair looked cute but the truth was oooh child. Anyway, now i go 10 to 18 months between cuts. Which is only possible because my hair is rarely loose and i comb it like twice a month (gross but i just can't be bothered since i have so much hair and work from home). THAT SAID!! That trend of wash n gos with blow dryer and mousse or gel but no leave in... Yike. Nah. Gotta keep the coils moisturized. Thanks AHG for this well needed PSA

So, in order to get a trim, your hair should be blown out first as opposed to the “diva cut”? I need to know bc I’m getting my trim tomorrow (damaged split ends) and I’d prefer as little heat as possible while I nurse my hair back to health.
@BrookeKnits
@BrookeKnits 11 ай бұрын
Curly cuts are really for shaping but a trim needs to look at all your stands cohesively. Your stylist can accommodate your heat concerns when they cut your hair though. Rada also established that the bigger issue is 'no oils no butters' while using gels for a wash and go. The clients who don't do that didn't have issues with splitting while having curly cuts.
@esthertjones
@esthertjones 11 ай бұрын
You can use heatless methods such as banding, african threading and braiding to stretch your hair without heat! If done correctly and safely in a gentle manner, however, you can use heat without issues.
@jayviolet59
@jayviolet59 11 ай бұрын
Curly cuts by definition do not provide actual shape. Each strand of hair needs to be addressed. Leaving the coil locked for a cut isn’t cutting each strand. All the uncut ends start the domino effect of damage.

@@oxi858 I just cut my hair (s/o to Narada for the guidance) and my hair was just in a twist out. Mind you, the twist out had been done with pomade, not gel, so I could comb through it freely without frizz. I find that a double twist out method gives the best stretch, ie, do it regular, then come back, add a twisting cream or something and a butter or pomade, maybe a tiny bit of water, and twist right back up in larger sections. After that second round, it should look like a twist out on blow dried hair.

It's kinda hard to take a picture of. It's when the hair strands unnaturally cling to other strands the same way that you would expect velcro to latch. The strands are bunched together and it's difficult to undo them. From my understanding the underlying culprit of webbing is compromised cuticles. They fray wildly and latch onto other compromised strands of cuticles and stick together

I did a Google search and saw images. Looks kinda like spider webs. Not surprising because UFD without a leave in would immediately start to set my hair, same with Doux mousse so you gotta be ready to set your hair not putting either product in and trying to shingle after. Took me only 2 times and I was like nah this is not gonna work for me. I work in sections and I apply a leave in while in the shower.

We have free will and freedom to make the best choices for our well being and that goes for our hair. If my hair doesn’t bounce back I figure I need a protein treatment, if it’s rough and dry I need a deep moisturizing conditioner and a leave . No one needs to tell me this. I’m with my hair every day, my stylist sees my hair every 3 months. We need to start thinking for ourselves.

@@AfrikanHairGod I thought the damage was only caused by the bleaching. Why wasnt the treatments working?
@AfrikanHairGod
@AfrikanHairGod 11 ай бұрын
Because her issue couldn't be corrected thru protein bonding treatments. Her hair was suffering from chronic dryness. While the bleached process didn't help that, neither did her styling practices dictated by her stylists and mentors. Damage occurs in hair for different reasons. It's important to know where the reason originates so that you can treat the cause and not just a symptom of the damage.

I used to go to a salon that was "cut it kinky" certified but when they gave me a trim, they would blow my hair out first. I appreciated them doing that, but the process was: 1. Wash, condition, detangle hair. 2. Blow dry hair straight. 3. Trim hair. Wash, condition & steam, detangle for x amount of time. 4. They do my "wash and go" in another chair. 5. Sit under a dryer for like 2-3 hours 6. Hair is not fully dry at the roots (you could see white gel on the roots and throughout my hair). 7. Advised to sit under the dryer when I got home. 🙃
@basiqueopulence888
@basiqueopulence888 8 ай бұрын
Yikes. Everything after trim hair is redundant unless you just want to add in steam and condition for extra pampering before applying products for the wash and go. The hair has already been cleansed, detangled, blown out and trimmed so there is no need to do any of that again. After 2- 3 hours under a dryer the hair should be beyond dry even at the roots unless it’s on low heat. Sorry that happened to you.

Anywho what I mean is it doesnt look like you condition, brush or do anything to edges or kitchens. So when your done hair look like art work but those area look nappy and beady. I don't slick or use gel but I do put a little water on with leave-in, castor oil or jojoba oil so those areas don't get dry.
