Former client and Chronic Pain Breakup Method grad, Anke, joins me in this episode as we shed some light on the complex and elusive recovery from CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome).
In this episode, Anke shares her story about what the path to recovery is really like, what challenges she faced along the way, and misconceptions about recovery potential with CRPS.
She shares her tips for others struggling with CRPS including taking accountability in your care rather than relying on doctors and the medical system, being patient and consistent even when progress seems slow or challenges arise, and acknowledging and celebrating each small victory along the way.

ABOUT ME:
I'm Alissa Wolfe.
I'm a chronic pain specialist and the founder of the Chronic Pain Breakup Method. I help people who are fed up and frustrated with chronic pain retrain their nervous system so they can beat chronic pain and get their life back.
In other words, if you have chronic pain and are looking for a new and improved way to manage your pain with an approach based on neuroscience, I'm your girl.
I got out of the clinic and started my online chronic pain coaching business so I could provide that nervous system retraining piece that is missing from pain management in the health care system.
Empowering people with chronic pain is my calling. I wasn't okay knowing that my patient's with chronic pain had no one to turn to, no one who would help, and no one who would believe them.
I decided I would be that person, even if in the beginning I didn't know everything I needed to know to help them. I pushed myself to learn and I discovered that we were trying to treat the "tissue issue" when people with chronic pain have a nervous system "pain problem".
Changes in the nervous system were contributing to pain and yet no one was addressing those changes.
By adding this element of neuroscience and nervous system retraining to my treatment approach, clients and patients are getting better than ever.
If you like what you see so far, subscribe to my channel so you don't miss any of the neuroscience nuggets I'll be throwing your way.

This has been so helpful. I tend to react to my pain with fear and panic and my whole body goes into protective mode. I would try to exercise, but because my brain thinks I am in danger, my muscles tighten up and then I hurt even more.

I had CRPS following a foot fracture...that was excruciating and experienced all of the mentioned challenges, physical, emotional and psychoogical...it got so bad i entered a clinical trial...I reacted badly to the drug so they withdrew me in the 1st week.. I then started to use self guided nueroplasticity and after 9 months my foot was healed and all the pain, swelling, discolouration, despair has gone.. I was dissociated from my leg as it spread up to my mid thigh...my 1st step was speaking about "the foot" as "my foot" reconnecting and accepting the pain, then incrementally touching my foot, redirecting my emotions from helplessness to hope and pacing myself with incremental weight bearing, exercises and eventually walking... I hope I can encourage someone that this condition can be cured ...my foot and leg are just as good as my other one. The only evidence is my R calf is slightly smaller. All my compassion and prayers to those suffering/ overcoming this condition.. ❤

Pacing is really hard for me to do in exercising. I am trying to set limits so I don't overdo.
