@@butteredtank9471 If you use any of Rotosound's Swing Bass strings, they are really easy to bend. I use the RS66LD's, which can bend easily. But Cliff used RS66LB's, which are lighter than the strings I use.

I got to see Cliff twice, the first time was in Frankfort Germany in the Volksbildungsheim place held around 1400 people and Metallica was the opening band for, wait for it Twisted Sister, and the second time was about two weeks later in a club in Mainz Kastel they were set up in a corner of the club it didn't even have a stage.

I clicked on this video for 2 reasons: Cliff is amazing and it's cool you're reviewing this. Love Metallica always and forever 2. You're wearing a 9ers hat and I've been a die hard 9er fan for 30+ years and I'm only 40 lol. Go 9ers this year is our year to finally get that modern Lombardi we have not been able to seal the deal on the last 10 years lol. Nice man!! *edit* You are correct it is a wah pedal cliff played baseline a lead guitar he was very innovative and he was schooled in music theory and loved classical music and all kinds of other music. The dude was amazing and a true loss to the entire planet. R.I.P.

He was a true master of his art... Until this day I haven't seen anyone wield the bass like that and I'm afraid that I never will see such virtuosity again. Jason and Robert are no slouches at it, but even they struggled with the album version of this song... While Cliff right here is adding all sorts of sugar and spice on top of the original version live... All while headbanging away hard!!!

Cliff Burton was 13 years old when his older brother 16 year old Scott Burton passed away from a cerebral aneurysm. Scott played bass guitar & from that point in time Cliff vowed that I am going to be the best bassest that I can be for my brother. Now God has both of Scott & Cliff an there jamming out for God. One time in an interview with James Hetfield. One question to James who was in his 40's, was asked who do you want to be when you grow up. James said I want to be Ray Burton. I too want to be Ray Burton when I grow up. Ray is everything great rolled up into one.

@@BlackRoseImmortal In this time he used a morley wah fuzz pedal (he later switched this to a wah boost pedal). a lot of people like to say he used a big muff but that is incorrect, the fuzz in the wah pedal came first so the fuzz was almost like it's own pedal in the chain, meaning you wouldn't need a secondary distortion pedal
@redyamahabassguy7537
@redyamahabassguy7537 5 жыл бұрын
@@BlackRoseImmortal He did not. At this time he would've been using a Morley Power Wah Fuzz pedal. Most people like to say he used a EHX Big Muff, but there's a lot of evidence disproving that, at least for live shows. The Wah Fuzz pedal has the fuzz circuit before the wah, meaning you wouldn't need a distortion or fuzz after or before it to drive the wah. He used a lot of amp gain too.

You know Cliff actually wrote a lot of their earlier stuff and was centric to their recognizable sound, and if you've never noticed, but almost all Metallica songs are based around their bass. That's why their bassists have always been front and center. Also Metallica was the first band to really front their bassist and let them rip. Cliff had that distortion all the way down lmao. I didn't even realize until I was like 26 and FINALLY paid attention to their live shows and realized that all this time what I thought were guitars was actually the godamn bass lol

Welcome Home (Sanitarium) and Through The Never are good songs for people new to Metallica. Welcome Home is with Cliff on bass, Through The Never is with his replacement Jason Newsted. I'm more of a fan of the Cliff Burton era. My dad, who was a fan of TNWOBHM, took me to see them with headliner Raven for the Kill 'Em All For One tour and Kill 'Em All was one of the first albums I ever bought. I had tix for my girlfriend and I to see Metallica open for Ozzy in 1986 in Vancouver, Canada but unfortunately Cliff died and they cancelled. Within a few weeks they hired Newsted and continued their tour starting in Vancouver on Halloween night with Metal Church opening for them. Since the Ozzy show was cancelled, anyone who had tix could exchange them for Metallica tix and it was an excellent show, first Metallica concert with Newsted, first time I dropped acid too.
