What is crazy is that when Em kills Shady with that homicide-suicide in Guilty Conscience 2 he then wakes up to an alarm ringing and if you listen closely you can hear the When I'm Gone chorus in the background! It's an amazing easter egg in my opinion

Just for context, he wrote and recorded this at the height of his drug problems in March 2004, so probably genuinely didn't think he was gonna be around for much longer and this was him officially killing off his alter ego Slim Shady. Very glad he managed to come out the other end. And becoming sober etc. on April 20, 2008 now being 16+ years sober so proud of the man Marshall is in present day.🐐✨💯(And this song is truly a classic/masterpiece one of the best hooks Em has ever recorded and Em Is The Goat Of Hip Hop Forever! Em is second to none in Hip Hop when it comes to lyricism and storytelling Please React to Eminem “Shake That” Ft. Nate Dogg (Uncensored) Music Video to me a perfect segway for Karen it’s also on Curtain Call as well.)

Ive been a fan of Eminem since I was a kid, followed him religiously. Loved his savage style, and loved watching him grow. When this song came out, it kicked me in the chest like nothing he'd ever done before. I couldn't speak, I couldn't think, I just sat there and cried. It was like seeing his heart entirely exposed, and the tragic beauty of him battling all the things eating at him on his path to greatness, but in a far more serious light. His unconditional love for his daughter always sweeps me off my feet.

When he created this in 2004 he was in active addiction and hadn't yet gone to rehab for the 1st to time. His first attempt to live clean and then his relapse come after. And all of that is just another reason this one hits so deeply. He was screaming for help in his own way at this point but still not able to do it directly but he knew he had a problem and was trying to do something to help himself by going after the Shady part of his mind. This song always makes me cry like a baby too. I've been clean 14 years and a lot of his work hits me hard in the emotions. He and I had a lot of similar early life trauma and a similar path to addiction. The hardest I cry though was to the video for Temporary. Seeing Hailie in her wedding dress, seeing Em cry, seeing him find out he's about to be a grandfather... sadly very few addicts make it out but that video showed just how far out he's made it. And it was beautiful. When I'm Gone is beautiful too but in a darker way. I'm really enjoying his latest work though because his growth through recovery is really shining bright. Ok I'm kinda starting rambling now so I'll ✌️

Earlier this year i finally got my son to start actually listening to the lyrics and not just words. To figure out what artists are saying. Recently, we were on the way to the store and listening to this song. He's being quiet. Finally after it's over he says, "Dad, this song is about how Eminem loves his kids and will do anything for them and to protect them, right?" I confirmed his assertion and he says, "Dad, this is kind of our song, isn't it?" My heart melted in that moment.
