Absolutely, without Revival getting hated on the way it did there is no Kamikaze. And pissed off Em is the best Em, you can't tell me any different. Plus I think the surprise album format has worked well for Em, which started with Kamikaze. I don't love Revival, and I can definitely understand to some extent why it got the reception it did. Some of the rock samples were cringe, Em's delivery was kinda off and the engineering & production could have been done a lot better on a fair few of the songs. But I'm not gonna pretend there weren't good tracks on there. Walk on Water (there was a crazy stigma around that song and I never got it), River, Bad Husband, Need Me (even though the song was more of Pink than Em, Pink does her thing) Oh, and I fucking love Castle & Arose. Easily the best songs on the album, arguably 2 of the best songs Em has ever written and it's a damn shame that they were not only on Revival but so far into it, as they could and should have got a lot more recognition. You're never gonna fuck with an entire album back to front unless it's a classic, that's the way I treat Revival. So, to answer you, I absolutely agree. Yes Revival got harshly treated, perhaps unfairly to an extent. But without it we would never have got Kamikaze, which is one of Em's best recieved albums and arguably changed his career trajectory for the better. Hell it, and the MGK beef got me back into Em. He actually toured Australia for Kamikaze too, and because I'd kinda fallen out of love with him a bit (and probably because I was broke) I didn't go. Ngl, having heard more of the album now, I'm still to this day sad about it. Crazy to think it came out 5 years ago.

I've only heard 3 songs from Revival but I've been meaning to listening to all of it. Those 3 are Chloroceptic, Framed, and Offended. I wasnt a fan if Framed, I liked Chloroceptic and loved Offended. I think the hate gave us one of my favorite albums and I am a little thankful

They're kinda an interconnecting song and are easily not only the best songs on Revival, but arguably 2 of the best songs Em has ever written period. Damn shame they were not only on Revival but so far into it, as they could and should have got way more recognition. Also, the Chloraseptic remix is better than the original tbh. And yeah Framed is one of the worse songs on the album imo.

Another dope reaction. The two sides of the coin style of the intro, that you caught, that Em was doing the same as Joyner but in his own version is I think Joyner's ideda/influence. In earlier Joyner songs, he used that style a lot. I hope you will get into Joyner as he has out of this world music. Not a lot of people react to his older stuff, and I would like to see your take on them. For example some of his remixes, like mask on and stuff, he goes nuts. But more importantly, some of his very creative tracks like Ross Cappichhioni, I am not Racist and so on. Those are some serious concept he is manifesting as music and I think you would appreciate them.
