In the very long book of Eminem masterpieces, this is near the first chapter for me. To me it really started this "new" Eminem where every line has 14 meanings. These newer albums can't ever hold sentimental value of his first few, but I think they're way more lyrically impressive. He's just the 🐐 and it's really not even close
@absent723 жыл бұрын
Having those kinds of meanings in lines happened on revival before this though. "Believe" still may not have been topped by newer Em tracks in terms of wordplay and punchlines
@Slgjgnz3 жыл бұрын
@@absent72 That's a growing trend. It has always been one of his signature, not just since Revival, all the way since Infinite even. But he's clearly more sharp than ever each time.
@absent723 жыл бұрын
@@Slgjgnz Yeah I know he's had punchlines since infinite. But they got to the level they're at currently starting with revival. Specifically on the track I mentioned. I don't think he's sharper than he was on that track, but he's maintained that level and can do it more consistently now

This is my all time favorite song from em. The title is a triple entendre, he disses everyone, has the "I'm back" vibes, angry, metaphors, wordplay, *27 DIFFERENT FOWS,* 10+ rhyme schemes Ended a sub genre of rap, and brought back a BUNCH of legends back to kill off mumble rap (Nas, Andre 3000, DRE, Black thought, etc.) It's a lyrical masterpiece that I hold in the same regard as Lupe's Mural

Awesome reaction again. And my favourite thing about this song, and new Em music in general how much more there is to the songs than just the lyrics. They are amazing on a conceptual level as well. Take this for an example. A track against haters and popular rap songs that are too bad according to his standards, which has an insane amount of flows. So on a structural level, Em disses the game by showing how many different things you can do on a track and still talk about something. He even uses flow patterns that he does not like, but are used by some of the people he disses, to show off that even those "lesser" flows can be done much better. Total annihilation by craftsmanship.

I was born in '80 and grew up listening to Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Grand Master Flash, Cool J, Ice Cube, Dre, and Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. When this album came out I had been out of my Eminem listening phase for a good while and from the very first track (which I believe this was but could be wrong), I had to listen to just about every track on repeat for a week just to fully appreciate what he was doing here on this album and fully comprehend the lyrics that we lyric driven rap lovers love and appreciate accomplished here. Not that it was necessarily a surprise but it was rejuvenating to hear this level of Em that we all know he’s capable of just come out swinging for the fences.

If you listen closely to the subvocalizations between bars, he's explaining the entrendres. "Evil. Spell." after "I'm E-V-I-L." "N. F. -ing." after "an effing" There are a few others spread throughout the song that I can't quite make out (no headphones), probably following the same concept of explaining his own bars that all tie back to people being too stupid to properly appreciate/critique his work. Yeah, he's taking shots at mumble rappers but he's popping off at damn near everybody for real (including KZbin reactors, most of whom miss the vast majority of his entendres on every song).

It's amazing that a 16 year old kid held back in the 9th grade twice and dropped out during his 3 year of 9th grade to pursue rap and hip hop full time. It wasn't easy for him but he started writing non stop except for family time. Absolutely Amazing what Em can do with paper and pencil. Of course reading the dictionary daily helps him with more fucking words that the common rappers would not have in their arsenal. I'm with Cliff Beats watching this man's skill set will prove exactly how hood Em is with his complete knowledge of the English language. That said, if he couldn't bend words or add extra syllables in words with only 1 to 3 or 4 syllables. And even better baby.3 to 4 syllable words get turned into 6, 7, or 8 syllable words. And he may cut part of words but you can clearly understand the word he wanted to do that to. I better get my ass to bed as its almost 4:30 a.m. here in middle Tennessee. Definitely an NF diss. He said "f"cking" just a few words prior so saying "effing" just seems weird. But also, I remember when NF started becoming popular on KZbin & the common critique was that he is a clone of the Recovery era Em.. seems like too much for it to be a coincidence imo. Also, in the ad-lib he repeated " N F 'ing" & seems to me to be trying to make it clear that he wants you to think about what he just said.

Right? I'm an old school fan of 80s thrash metal, and while I also listened to the OGs of rap in the 80s and 90s (LL Cool J, Ice T, Public Enemy, Busta Rhymes, Salt N Peppa, Missy Elliot, Biz Markie, et al), it took a loooong time (too long!) to really let go of my prejudice and appreciate the lyricism and musicianship of rap artists as compared with the legends of metal (Megadeth, Motorhead, Pantera, Anthrax, Metallica, Faith No More, etc.) I think that's why I enjoy reaction channels so much. I dig watching people be forced by real talent to leave their preconceptions at the door and come away with an appreciation that they never had before.
