The diss was the verse in Godmode where Tom said something about "the last guy I battled I ruined his career and made him get a divorce" etc (Not much of a diss when it comes to rap but the history between the two and it being not true it what inflamed this whole thing). Lethal took this as a sneak diss because Tom was using this as an excuse not to have to battle another rappers and it's not true. Lethal didn't get divorced he's still with his wife and doing fine and was doing the family thing and his own thing, and the original battle ended with Tom winning but Lethal and friends "claims there was going to be a rebuttal but he just wasn't passionate about the beef at the time and decided to let it go". Then the two of them worked it out and became friends until Godmode came out and Tom unfollowed Lethal on IG and he took that as a backstabbing sneak diss to him.

He does that song race war. He droppin n-bombs. That was stupid af. Like, for a guy already tagged for cultural appropriation, who is performing traditionally and primarily black art, he is a guest in the house, and probably unwanted. But dropping racial slurs is corny af and disrespects the place he occupies in hip hop. It is ignorant and racist and promotes that kind of ignorance among his fan base. 3. He has zero authenticity. It’s all kayfabe w this dude. Fake American saying shit he don’t believe in cuz he know he can hustle to an ignorant and predominantly white audience. This is vanilla ice all over again. Vanilla Ice was bounced out of hip hop cuz he was a fraud and didn’t know how move as a white person in the cultural. The only difference is, Tom McDonald has the internet and social media to bypass authenticity checks 4 that song white boy profoundly misrepresents or misunderstands racism and it is laughable that he would compare his piddly experience to ppl who gone thru and go thru some real shit. It’s wild af for him to use rap to complain about some mid level white stress at most in a context of racism. More ignorance, more disrespect

@@WilliamMatthews-yu1hf Tom McDonald claiming he the first political rapper? That’s ignorant af. Meaning he ain’t schooled. Hip hop has always been about paying up respects to those who came before. He don’t do that. Ffs, hip hop’s origins ARE political. It was politics that took music classes out of the inner cities. It was politics that killed art in schools, that didn’t replace instruments. And school was the primary source of exposure to the tools of music. But that lack created space for innovations. They made their own music despite what the powers that be said and did. That’s one 2. Hip hop is steeped in black culture, liberationism and black empowerment. That doesn’t mean u have to be black to participate of course, because hip hop is about skill. But rapping his dog-whistling white supremacy bs is why none of the legends care to f*ck w him if they even know his name.
@WilliamMatthews-yu1hf3 ай бұрын
@@basementmadetapes The initial curiosity was about your reasoning on how he disrespected hip hop history and your response was due to his being the first political rapper claim with a shorter seemingly less motivated paragraph on his views on the “Straight White Male” and the prejudice within todays society? The first one I can see your reasoning for feeling some disrespect. I’ll admit I’m a fan of Tom but that truly was ignorant of him to say. One could also say he did it…disrespectfully on purpose? Push some people’s buttons? Most likely yes and yes I can agree on your first explanation however your second one is complete bull and incredibly ignorant on your part bringing race into a frickin music related argument. Seriously dude? He’s never claimed to be a white supremacist to begin with and you just flip flopped your point by saying it’s steeped in black culture but you don’t have to be black to participate it’s about skill? He skillfully raps about his demographic and how it’s vainly perceived in society. Sorry can’t see the disrespect from him there but I do see some somewhere.
@basementmadetapes3 ай бұрын
@@WilliamMatthews-yu1hf he doesn’t have to claim that. White supremacy is not about his identity nor his claims at all. Most white supremacists would claim to be such. He might not actively think in terms of basic racial hatred, but he espouses ideas sympatico w white supremacy. He caters to white fears. He’s a reactionary. There’s a reason why white conservatives love this dude and it ain’t about the bars just. It’s about his justifications, his list of complaints And u must be so far removed yourself from the music to think that the cultures all forms of music are rendered irrelevant or are somehow inappropriate to address. Tom MacDonald’s whole schtick is being that white dude. Of course me bringing it up is relevant. U talk about demographic like it’s some aspect of the music irrespective of politic or meaning. Demographics are a means of understanding who to sell to, it’s a market term. His market is white conservatives complaining about their lot in life and acting like they don’t know how any of it happened. Now maybe that’s an uncharitable view of them and him but how many of the “I’m a thousand and I hate rap but I love Tom” also come from that camp? Ultimately hip hop is about skill. But u can miss me when u try make it source-less or like it’s history isn’t part of its DNA. Eminem understands that. it's just so silly, rap has been political from its inception - songs like NWA 'f*** the police' or ice t's 'colors', kendrick's to pimp a butterfly, etc. rap has always discussed racism, police brutality, the reagan crack era, etc. to say he invented political rap is so stupid and ignorant of the rich history of the genre and really disrespects so many artists that came before him

I don't know who this Mc Lethal is and I don't have to. All I know is that he is lethal to himself. We should be able to make a distinction between a real diss that calls for a response, and something that is more a cry for help and prayers. It I were Tom, I would ask people to pray for this guy because he needs it. Anyone that goes to that length of disrespecting your girlfriend, your parents in such a nasty way... Is someone who is in pain and should gets mental help or reach out to God. From whatever angle that you look at it, it's a reach to call Tom's verse a diss. And even if it was a sneak diss, what we heard in this track is a man that has been in pain for 5 years. As I said, the simple fact that he went to that length of disrespecting his girlfriend and even his parents, tells you all you need to know about where he is mentally... And it's not a good place. I think that any rapper who gets dissed by using their family in such a way, are entitled to annihilate the guy and try to destroy his career like Kendrick is doing, or pray for the guy as he needs more help than anything else, in the case of Lethal.
