No question. This is Eminem at his best. He is rapping from his heart and defending his position and not trying to please anyone. This is head and shoulders one of the finest hip hop tracks of all time from the first note to the last and the scariest thing is Eminem is at his best when he isn't even trying to spin webs around his rhymes. Today, we try and spin doubles, triples and supersonic speed raps into everything, but sometimes less is actually, more and the production is so good it sends shivers down my spine... The true test is time and 20+ years later (like alot of Rakim's rhymes) this song transcends the sands of time.

I did a quick search and got this. 'It would take over 600 years to listen to every song in the world. The average person listens to about 1.3 million songs in their lifetime and 961 hours and 10 minutes of music per year.' Definitely not accurate, BUT, with all the music out there, AND with new songs created nearly daily it is going to be a very large number regardless.

@vernonmckee-gv9dp2 ай бұрын
Cliff Beats It's actually a true fact that when he originally handed in the MMLP album to the record lable they told him that they think something is missing, and he was aggravated about it and that's when he said fuck it, went in the booth and vented his frustration with everything into the way I am. That's why he sounds so pissed throughout the whole thing. Then after that got added to the album, the executive record producers or whoever said they wanted one more track added to the album that would be more commercial and radio playable, like my name is off his previous album, so he then recorded the real slim shady, which also then got added to the album. It's really crazy that the way I am and real Slim Shady ended up being two of his biggest hits back in the day, when they both got recorded and then added to MMLP as an afterthought. There's a documentary about it, that's how I found this out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hISzlomcZ5agnMUsi=yJymCbyEzFm3EbRW

Fun fact this song is performed in iambic pentameter; the same cadence Shakespeare used in many of his plays
@banksofchaos932 ай бұрын
No, sorry. Just scanning the first verse, it's easy to hear if you listen for it. He makes it very obvious with his delivery. The syllable pattern is unstressed, unstressed, stressed (xx/ is the notation), and there are four groups of that pattern per line. That foot pattern is anapestic, not iambic. And four feet per line is tetrameter, not pentameter. So the first verse is like this: xx/ xx/ xx/ xx/ Or i sit BACK with this PACK of zig ZAGS and this BAG of this WEED, it gives ME the shit NEEDed to BE the most MEANest emCEE (etc) Iambic pentameter consists of five groups of 2-syllable feet per line, unstressed stressed, or x/, so a line would be: x/ x/ x/ x/ x/ i CLOSE my EYES and ALL the WORLD drops DEAD But iambic pentameter is practically pedestrian 😂 It'll be much cooler to drop "this song is in anapestic tetrameter, which Dr. Seuss used, but Eminem was the first poet to make it sound vicious" in the comments on this song :) You could probably write an essay on how his using this meter, typically associated with more lighthearted fare, works as a sort of ironic commentary on the larger theme of the song, with him facing pressure to produce another radio hit and to be accessible and friendly to fans all the time, and he's like, "here, i've got a song for you"
