I always thought the lyrics to Everything I Wanted and Xanny are very impactful. Her and her brother write all of her songs themselves, btw, and her brother is her producer.

Something that first time reactors don’t always notice is that she started directing her own music videos when she was 16/17. This brilliant video is entirely directed by her. She and her brother/best friend/producer Finneas (who also co writes and produces all her music as well as having his own successful music career as a singer/songwriter) were meant to create art. They’re born artists and it’s remarkable.

I believe the lyrics to this song she touched on about an incident that happened at Coachella, in her documentary. I could be wrong but I think that’s the story. The dude she was dating at the time wanted to use her for clout and party all the time while she was working and he would ghost her.

If I remember correctly, she told a story about how she was off stage crying over him because he said he would show up and he didn't and she couldn't believe she was crying over him instead of focusing on the show or something like that

The reason then old timey effect pops so well at the start is because her style of singing is very reminiscent of the techniques that had to be used back then due to the technologie limitations. Quiet/soft, and up close Once she gets on the roof it's got a bit of an avril lavigne vibe to it

I really think you should react to "Listen Before I Go". There isn't a video for it, but it's one of the most beautifully dark songs I've ever heard and I genuinely think you, specifically, would really love it. Also the black screen at the end is a thing she's started doing on her videos so KZbin doesn't cover the screen with what you should watch next and make you miss something in the actual video itself. I wish more people would do it.

She is a truly great musician, and it's cool how powerful she is as she works mostly with her brother, Fineas. They are phenomenal and I love their relationship. The interesting whisper voice is a very crafted effect, and you can see that particularly when she sings in other styles. Oh, that's not 'she sings that way because she has to,' it's something that's deliberate and intentional.

if you're interested in her lyricism, or breaking down lyrics, I'd recommend 'your power', 'the 30th' (both heavy themes and lyrics), 'all the good girls go to hell' (curious about the many meanings you may draw from this song), and 'xanny' if you're more interested in seeing her shine vocally, I'd recommend live performances such as the 'happier than ever' performance at the Grammys, 'no time to die' at the 2022 oscars, 'when the party's over' on howard stern, and 'getting older' in the live lounge if you want to just enjoy yourself and watch a crazy, cool music video (shining creativity-wise) I'd opt for 'when the party's over', 'bury a friend', 'NDA' and 'all the good girls go to hell' (ideally bury a friend and all the good girls go to hell watched in that order for continuity)

She does a behind the scenes version (if you didn’t know) and says this song is about being abused and not realizing it until deep into the relationship. I absolutely love the sound of his song, it truly takes me back to the 40-50’s style too. She is the one who directed this as well. She’s SO talented!! 👏🙌 The whisper song is called “Bad guy”. I love this song and watch lots of reactions to it. Yours was GREAT! You really got it, which was especially impressive since you don't follow Billie Eilish you said and so wouldn't know the backstory of this song. Her documentary (The World's A Little Blurry) shows her relationship with Q (singer). He literally called her "drunk from (his) Benz" and she was filmed receiving that call. Also, when she was singing at Coachella, he called to wheedle tickets for him and his friends. She said basically "only if you'll spend some time with me there." which sort of tells you everything you need to know about how their relationship worked. He took. She gave. Well, he didn't spend time with her there and she was all worried and upset and hurt about it while she was trying to get ready to perform. I think this is the specific inspiration for the lyric "made all my moments your own" Anyway, thanks for the fun.
