A lot of folks in my Facebook CNC use a similar VFD to run their spindles and many of them comment about having issues with the VFD, loose wires, solder joints coming loose etc. Good thing yours was an easy fix.

Hi Cliff, After pulling the motor out, it was a lose connection on the VDF, so you were a phase out, but it would work with a spin on the shaft. All done, great video take cate

I hear good things about Evolution saws.. Fault finding is always a pain for me, especially electrical. I recently wired up 12 double sockets in dado trunking in the workshop and got stumped a few times with simple errors! (Yes, MY errors..) Glad you sorted it Cliff.

Another job done Cliff.

hi Cliff, most VFDs say they should never be run up disconnected from the motor as it can damage them, also the do contain capacitors/store charge so you should allow time for them to dissipate and test before putting your fingers in the junction box. It did seem like the VFD has lost a couple of phases , hence why it would only run once given some encouragement. glad it turned out to be a no cost repair 🙂

You’re not alone. I’ve stripped stuff down only to find it was something easy all along. At least it’s fixed

This is my bread and butter 3 phase motors etc. as soon as you turned it on you could hear the motor grumbling it’s usually a good indicator that you’ve lost a phase or low voltage. Once all connections were tight she was sounding happy again. Inverters don’t like being run on an open circuit and also I’d recommend having a proper control box and board made up with sufficient cabling. 415 3 phase isn’t to be messed with and unfortunately you know only too well how an electrical fire can destroy your pride and joy just like that. Just some constructive criticism Cliff keep up the good work and congratulations on 10k subs!

Just to add to carlphilips3399 when testing 3 phase motors you need to check U to V and V to W and W to U to make sure you have the three phases, that way it will show immediately if a phase is missing.

@@campingstoveman yeah oh course. Agree there 👍

Seriously Cliff, you should unplug from the wall before you open it and close the door so the dog can’t get in. After you got it apart and made sure the wires can’t move, then you can plug it in again. If you’re checking the VFD. But as someone else said, a VFD doesn’t like an open circuit. You need to test it when connected to the motor. If the motor blew a coil, that’s not unexpected if it wasn’t made to be run by a VFD. If the VFD blew a phase there’s nothing you can do to fix it there.

Same as when you run around looking for your keys, you always wish you'd looked at things in a different place first when you find them.... :) Of coruse, if you HAD started with the VFD, there would have been something on the motor that wasn't working :)

you put a lot of faith in that switch.needs to be a 2 pole isolation switch.active and neutral should be isolated from the vfc....just saying mate,be safe.

Great vid Cliff, nice fault finding, I trust you didn’t have my Rage 5 assembly issues, and no I didn’t read the destructions. Did I say Congratulations on the 10 k .
