Thank you. I suspect it was not a real Smith. When looking for the description it goes to more product. They should never be able to out and out do that.

Hi cliff, love the straight talk no bullshit with waffling on with nonsense, I bought a punch set from else where some time ago , it was a self centering coin type, I find applying a little wax or within that nature to the punch cutting edge it help releasing the punch back out from the coin a little easier, , Also not seen your the punch cutting angle on your set but mine has a slight angle to them to help cut through the coin easier,

This is a spindle nose variant? When I Google the V10 I see a lot of threaded spindles, like on older lathes. Does anyone know if Emco changed design at a certain time?

Cliff, love he videos but PLEASE stop using wd40 as a penetrating oil or lubricant , as its rubbish at both, also on very small fitting parts it can become glue, Sory to chastise you but its a pet hate of mine when people use it wrogly, Keep up the good work and the best of luck

It's looking a hell of a lot better since you cleaned it Cliff. Bit of a bugger about the pin and the broken part. I'm sure you will get it sorted. Cheers, Alan.
@CliffsShed3 күн бұрын
cheers Alan, yep, that pin is in for life, believe its hardened as well so wouldn't be easy to drill out, staying where it is for the foreseeable future, All the best, Cliff

Cliff is that main beam pivot pin domed on both sides? No way you'll nock that out if it is. Try thinking of it as 2 separate pins coming in to meet in the middle. My guess is it's like a metal plate pin. Try get a thin tipped chisel under the head of one and leaver it out OR grip with vice grips and wriggle. #RD way grind one head off then try tap it out it maybe peened both sides

You’re using the wrong dyes mate. None of the ones that came with that press will work. Those are for flat bar stock not hollow round or square tubing. Nobody else commented on this. It was most likely out of whack from poor measurements or not keeping the material perfectly level on the bender. There are many videos up here of guys bending hollow tube.

I got that stuck pinout by laying the machine on its side onto support blocks and using a hefty pin punch, giving it a mighty blow!

Tried that, was probably a bit conservative with bashing it, scared I'd break the frame! its staying put for now!!! ATB, Cliff

Excellent progress Cliff. Pulling your hair out or what? That missing broken piece lifts the foot. You won't have a walking foot without it. You can easily fabricate one. Singer were fantastic engineers and wood machinists producing high tech goods for their era. The machine's looking great the work you've done so far. Cheers Tony

Hi Cliff. This is Phil’s brother Michael! Phil and I restored a 29k-15 many years ago and I used it so much I wore it out. I’ve had two since, both rebuilt several times and they are excellent machines. I’m probably preaching to the converted, but the main beam pivot pin- and most of the other pins - are all tapered and hardened, so you won’t drill it out! They can be tight… Any thing you want to know just message me. Timing isn’t as big an issue as it appears but it is critical to making it sew. I can help with that. The leaf spring on the back provides foot pressure and the pawl and wing nut assembly adjusts the amount of foot lift to account for thick and thin materials. The machine threads in a very unusual manner! Excellent video… been there and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Hello Michael, The pin is staying put! its choice not mine!!! made a new bit for the foot lifter, pretty easy in the end. Getting it to sew however is another story, not helped by my total lack of knowledge!!! Shame you don't live next door, :-), I'll get there, I hope!!!! All the best, Cliff

@@CliffsShed it is important to thread the cotton right! also you can usually put the handwheel on the end of the machine as well as at the front for a much more natural singer feel!

We had a fire in our shop, had to rewire all three axises, wire sheathing melted to the strain relief and was trash, took many hours of pulling old wire out of strain relief and more time pulling more wire (US Phone wire what we used as replacement)back thru, just cut ends off, twisted each wire together used a bit of electric tape so no one wire would touch another and knock wood, they are still working with minimal problems, hardest part is getting all wires secured inside the reader head, but was well worth the time, had buy new dro reader because old one melted 🫠 in fire 🔥 but we got lucky, if known that only need 4 wires would have been even faster, we connected each and every wire 😂😒🤦🏻♂️

Happy New Year Cliff. Good job on the sewing machine. My sister in laws father was a cobbler in Burton upon Trent and he had a very similar looking machine in his shoe and boot repair shop. I remember it as it had the same beam or boom arm on top of it. God that was sixty years ago now. I was around ten or eleven at the time!

I've got one of those, I think mine is 1910. I need to machine a new rack that drives the bobbin case. Paid £50 for mine a couple of years back. It's on the original stand with treddle . It was outside for some time and seized up in a similar way, and not much paint left. Lovely old machine, Will be interesting to see how yours performs.
