The Clifton suspension bridge was the first thing I saw on my first trip to England. I flew into Bristol from Brussels, arriving on a sunny September day to views of that bridge surrrounded by hot air balloons. So beautiful it seemed magical! Wish I'd done that walk while I was there.... guess I'll have to come back! My favorite structures are the Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Arizona and the cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado.
@stephr76373 ай бұрын
Very excited to see my home town featured! I've done that walk and was scared I'd be murdered basically the whole time. I do feel this walk captured the best of Bristol though - the parrot-knee man, good graffiti, the muddy gloop of the Avon (it's tidal so to be fair it sometimes looks a bit less shit), the woods, and the bridge as a spot for either admiring the view or dumping bodies. Glad you enjoyed it.

I think the remains of St Patrick’s Chapel in Heysham, is a very evocative 8th century ruin on a cliff top overlooking the Irish Sea. The rock hewn graves and usually bleak weather make it especially atmospheric. I like to imagine the religious community there and local people trudging up the same path for over a thousand years now. Other than that the Ashton memorial is a beautiful building, Blenheim palace always takes my breath away but my favourite would be a castle in North East Scotland, it has one main turret and my parents and I came across it after breaking down in a bad snowstorm in the 1980’s, it was in the middle of nowhere and thankfully there was a very kind laird who took pity on us. I remember the huge fire, two enormous deerhounds and tapestries everywhere. I think he may well have saved our life that night. I’ve never been able to work out which castle it was.

My favorite structure is an old gate house at a park in Brussels where I used to go to life drawing classes. Fav building/structure has to be the hardest question ever asked in CDWC. Wells Cathedral and St. Peter's Basilica are both pretty stunning, but unfortunately very much related to the disgusting pursuit of thieving lying religions. The Bodleian Library is a looker, but probably has a skeleton or two in its historical closet. I'll go for the Natural History Museum - it's architecturally stunning inside and out, it's home to wonderful artifacts (very few of them nicked from other countries), it's simultaneously interesting, engaging and educational, and it's free to get in! When I was 24 it was the 90’s. As a woman that was okay looking there was zero chance I’d have been allowed to designed a bridge.
