Its a shame that they are putting tarmac everywhere, here in my state there are some rally competitions with some cool courses. Most of them "updated" to tarmac. Even the road that leads to my home in the countryside is asphalt now. Im not a rally driver but i learned to run fast and polished the technics i absorbed in those gravel and dirt roads. Now the main road is 100% asphalt, you can run a bit faster but its not the same feel.

When my parents first got the internet my friends and I were standing around wondering what you do with it. One friend said, "you can watch whatever you want." We didn't really understand, and he said, "Just think of anything and you can watch it." Another friend said, "Really? Type in Ari Vatanen Pikes Peak!" In it goes and up this comes. We all start laughing, "It worked!" He hits play and we all stood and watched cheering. It was at that moment that I knew motorsport was going to be my thing. Changed my life forever.

@marrs1013 Жыл бұрын
@@Where_is_Waldo The 'unlimited' nature of the regulations is just a buzzword for fanboys, don't fall for it. If you do, it just proves how little you understand it. The Group B era of 'unlimited' rallying was bonkers, even the drivers understood it and feared it, most of them not wanting to die for your entertainment. It later turned out, that 'limited' cars go even faster then 'unlimited' ones. Regulations are just forcing the manufacturers to spend money on safe development. Racing drivers are not idiots with deathwish. You would be surprised how safety conscientious they are, because they truly understand how dangerous motorsports are.
@100GTAGUY

The only thing crazier than side car racing, is side car motocross racing. Locals in the pikes peak area run shelf and phantom canyon road like it is the rally driving to and from work at the cripple creek/victor mines. Definitely quite a few sheer drops on those roads for sure. I prefer running em on my dirt bike however, less sketchy than in a car to me lol.

@@rumblefish9 - That was a time when women were women. After all, Michelle Mouton was still very feminine whilst being a kickass driver able to compete speed for speed with the boys. These days women in sports try to look and act like men (WNBA, women's soccer), but they play nowhere near the level of the men's division. And let's not forget about the men transitioning to be a woman to compete with women. And feminists support that type of crap. Michelle Mouton earned every penny of her salary based on skill, not just because it was a token to have a woman race at the WRC. But modern feminism hate the likes of Michelle Mouton because Mouton never acted like a victim. Her skills as a driver did the talking.

This pilot if you have the balls right place, we are talking about the year 1988 , zero technology with new cars , manual gearbox , roads without guardrails , amazing this pilot. Este piloto si que tiene los huevos bien puestos, estamos hablando del año 1988 , cero tecnología que tienen los autos nuevos, caja de cambios manual, caminos sin barreras de protección, increíble este piloto

I doubt that he would want to drive with anything but the manual gearbox. You could see how much control over the car and gearbox he had; he wouldn't sacrifice that!

i dont understand automatic, why you would not want to control your engine yourself, to decide when to change gear to decide basically if you want some punch at high rpm like for climbing a steep hill or go past someone on the highway or low rpm for fuel consumption or use brake engine to dont overuse your brakes and consume less fuel. It learns you to comprehend and make one with your machine. I understand automatic only for handicaped people or children.

Why does this seem a thousand times faster than modern pikes peak runs?
@MrCheaterpipe
@MrCheaterpipe 6 жыл бұрын
Dr Pancake Face Gaming because the modern runs are all asphalt no big rocks in the road to give real perspective of the speeds also all the giant rooster tails of dirt and dust behind looks so much more dramatic I've been to the paved races and trust me they are in no way slower yes it's lost some mystique by losing the dirt but I had a lot of old timers tell stories of how terrible the dust and dirt used to be now it is much nicer for the spectators if only they would modernize the spectator areas where they could broadcast the entire runs on big portable projectors instead of just a simple radio broadcast it would make for an amazing overall experience

i like what they did with wrc in this season by putting on board cameras in every car sending live video,it is amazing way to follow race.same thing in pikes peak and spectators could watch every run live.i think it would make this type of racing more popular,send broadcast live from internet and people around the world could follow the race,they could brobably make some more money that way.pikes peak is really famous race i would watch it if possible.greetings from finland

In terms of the car's speed or the time of the run? The other replies have covered the apparent speed of the car but the run seems short because the film only shows about half of the run. Vatanen's time was 10m47s but this whole video is only 5m18s.

Dr Pancake Face Gaming imagine having one long guardrail with a camera attached to it that follows the car for the duration of the entire run

Have sat with people of this standard and just enjoyed!!! Had a few wonderful rides as a passenger or Co- Pilot. Although have a few Cups and Medals myself for driving could never have achieved this level. Ari Vatenen got me some special bits for my Saab 96 V4 rally car many years ago. Still have a rally car in the garage 1964 Saab 96 2 stroke fully prepared to FIA appendix K At 72 years of age mad!!!! Not long ago got rid of my Ducati 916 170 mph bike as the roads are getting too dangerous!! Had a UR Quattro too and a Mazda 323 Turbo group N rally car!!! Those were the days. Still no points on my license and still have little regard to stupid speed limits.
