I wondered what the specs were, so I'm gonna leave them here There’s a 3.2-litre mid-rear mounted V6 bi-turbo engine with 875bhp, a six-speed sequential gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifts, four-wheel-drive, pressurised dampers, double wishbones and pushrod/rocker arm actuation at all corners, torsion bars, anti-roll bars all round, and vented carbon brake discs front and rear - measuring in at 380mm (f) and 355mm (r) - hiding behind 18in magnesium alloy wheels “derived from F1 technology”. In fact, Peugeot is very proud of the fact this little Franken-208 packs more power than a modern Formula One car, tipping the scales at a frankly ludicrous 875kg. So yes, you’re right: it’s ruddy fast. 0-62mph takes just 1.8 seconds, 0-125mph takes 4.8 seconds and it’ll hit its 150mph top speed in just seven seconds flat.

@cantfindawayout 6 жыл бұрын
@TastyMedula Ehm...No, they don't. Formula 1 cars had around 950 hp at the peak of V10 era (2004) , then got slowly downgraded (first a V8 engine, then a decreased rev limit, then reduced fuel rate, etc), so they ended up with around 750 to 780 for the 2009 season. That's when engine development pretty much stopped (cost saving measure). It continued like that (noone managed to crack 800 hp with those 2.4 V8s iirc) until 2014 when the 1.6 V6 turbo hybrids were introduced. Now, we don't have the exact figures for how much they produced back in 2014 (although people speculate it was around 850 to 900), but the Formula 1 cars of 2017 were getting very close to 1000 hp and Mercedes claim they are now over 1000 hp in 2018. As for the weight, the last time Formula 1 cars weighed 500 kg was until the deaths of Ratzenberger and Senna in 94 with cars getting bigger and heavier next season for safety reasons. In 2000s, cars were already 600 kg+. Modern F1 cars are 734 kg.

Makes me laugh all those comments about speed. Have you ever driven a car in real life not ps3 or 4 or whatever. Loeb makes a monster look easy. That's the thing. You go out there and try to control a 800 bhp monster and make it look like a sunday drive ! Funny how so many people think they drive better than a 9 times world rally champ !!!!

@wadopotato33
@wadopotato33 8 жыл бұрын
18tangles Europeans are miles better at Rally car because it is not popular here at all. Americans are Europeans (a majority anyway) so there isn't anything different about them genetically that would make them better drivers. In Fact, Europeans (unless they are professionals, of course) drive less per year than Amercans by a mile...or kilometer.
@wadopotato33
@wadopotato33 8 жыл бұрын
18tangles I am an American who lived in France. Cut the bullshit. The whole of the Western United States is mountainous, and a good portion of the Eastern United States. The road in this video is in the US for fuck sakes. That isn't a factor and European drivers drive a lot less. I took the Bus a good portion of the time I lived in France, but when I got a car there wasn't anything super scary about the roads. There was one good one near Grenoble on the way to a monestary, but it is a lot less scary than some of the 4x4 trails in Southern Utah for example. Here in Canada I put 30,000 km's per year on my vehicles. It would be super rare to find someone who drove as little as a European, here. Canadians actually like rally car more than Americans, as well. Americans would be more about mudding, NASCAR (which I don't get at all), or Rockcrawling/Hillclimbing/Dragging. Once again, I lived in France and Switzerland. The difference is that rally car is not popular at all and that is about it. You guys love that shit we don't. They are as bad at Rally as you are at Rock Crawling. It is ALL (100%) about how popular it is. And helps to have a tradition (building experience) whatever kind of vehicle you use for a particular motorsport. America Love Dragcars for example, and they are very good at building them. There would be a learning curb for any Europeans learning to build one. A top Fuel Dragster can have more than 10,000 horsepower, can hit 160 Kph in 3/4 of a second (you read that right) and 520 kph in 3 seconds. There is an art form to building a top-fuel Dragster as there is with a high-tech million dollar Rally car. Drivers skill as with car building is all practice, pratice, practice.

Let alone the grip and handling of his car on each corner, the camber of each corner, the elevation, the gear to be in, and all the details (breaking points, where the cliffs are, etc). Yeah but it's not a fair comparison. All similarities between the VW EV and the record holders before it are : - all have 4 wheels - all use downforce to stick to the road It's like you're comparing a piston-powered, propeller-driven aircraft to a ramjet : - both have wings - both may fly. Moreover, the tarmac surface is to EV's advantage. Cuz you can put power down efficiently, If it were gravel, propulsion would not have mattered that much. Since they have made it a full tarmac path, probably to drop the times as much as possible and if this is what is being chased regardless of the means of achievement, then i suggest carefully placed mirrors in every corner and nothing will beat a laser beam to the top...

@@watannen Proving the point. IF EVs have an advantage, EVs will be the only sane vehicle to develop. The torque is immediate, unlike ICE cars, and that's a HUGE advantage in a rally or hill-climb. With all-electric vehicles, the scenic beauty of the coast would be far less impacted, permits would be a lot easier to get and residents less unhappy. (And the air has a lot more O2...)

To all the haters, i'm not saying : "Go ahead and try to do it" you can't. But ask everyone who, one day, was the passenger of a great driver (Loeb or another) in a racecar... And if you think it's "easy" to drive (lol, btw he was faster than the most optimistics computer simulations) don't think only about the car, but also the rugged landscape. At this speed, one mistake or mechanical failure, and imagine what can happend for Loeb (5:58 !!!). Or imagine what can happend for the people around ! Some are Heightened or behind barriers, a lot have no protection, at all.

I notice people talk about how "Bad drivers are in general" but then like 90% of them are contributing to the problems that cause traffic congestion and other accidents; from merging, improper turns, etc... they can barely maintain a 60mph speed. It's kind of like saying you're smart or other things, there's still a difference between dumb people saying everything's easy and parroting what they heard from the real elites who are really good at driving or whatever they do. There's still people who outperform their peers almost in the top 1% percentile and the way they do things is just so different , but it's not a reason to say it's wrong. It's just sad that people cannot humble themselves or say they're average at something, or at least slightly above average, or below average. Driving like this is a lot different and I'd wager that in any true simulation or whatever about the same amount 90-99% would fail it.. you have to perform sharp turns and know how to drive at this speed not to mention have a natural instinct and knowledge of how to perform the turns and other factors while maintaining your speed. It's far different from those road-rage bad drivers who try to duck-and-doge through traffic just to go about 5 miles per hour faster and think they're hardcore when many of the trucks and other vehicles around them who they're cutting off have to accommodate their bad driving habits which causes further problems for everybody.

I'm not a huge WRC fan or a Loeb fan but I was looking to the best race drivers in the world and I've come to the conclusion this guy right here is the best race driver of all time. No other driver has won more than 7 championships in any series. Loeb has won 9 championships and his a very high number of race wins. He is un-arguably the greatest rally driver ever and his accomplishments simply are too great to overlook on any scale. Sebastien Loeb is the greatest race driver in history.

***** 1. F1 cars are the fastest cars in the world. 2. F1 is way more dangerous. 3. There's no cage to protect the F1 drivers. 4. There are pit stops in F1. 5. No WRC driver has ever competed in F1 but numerous F1 drivers have competed in the WRC. 6. In the WRC, the cars play a big role in the drivers' performance as well. Not as much as in F1 though, I admit it. 7. F1 isn't a sport in which the best QUALIFIER wins. It is a sport in which the best RACER wins. 8. Robert Kubica who has competed in both F1 and in the WRC has said that F1 is better. 9. F1 has open cockpits. 10. To compete in F1 you need a Super License. To compete in the WRC you just need a Grade A License. 11. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport racing. I think that explains how all the F1 drivers are way better than all the WRC drivers.....
@maitele
@maitele 10 жыл бұрын
Dimitris AlonsoFerrari 1. F1 cars are faster- on the tracks that they were specially built for. Their suspension setups and ride height make them completely unusable on any sort of slightly bumpy road. In almost any non-purpose-built environment Pikes Peak cars are much, MUCH faster than F1 cars. 2. The chance of getting killed in an accident in F1 is lower than that of NASCAR. This is because the F1 cars are generally moving at a slower pace and they weigh maybe a third of the weight. WRC is also more dangerous because of the unpredictable nature of the roads and the treacherous terrain surrounding the track. You hear about fatal accidents involving trees at 60mph, so imagine one at 90 or 120 mph. 3. The air intake just behind the driver acts as a rollbar in an F1 car. You'll notice that even if most of the rest of the car is strewn everywhere the cowl and tub remain relatively unharmed. This is how they were designed. 4. Pit stops are not innately dangerous, nor do they add to the challenge for drivers. They add strategy for the pit crews, but nothing more. 5. That may be because they have no desire to move up to F1- there are other series they could be in to build up to that. F3 and Star Mazda (if that still exists) come to mind. If they wanted to be in F1 they probably wouldn't be in rallying. 6. That's not entirely the case. The setup is what plays a massive part in the behavior of the car, which changes how the driver must react to adverse conditions. The only time the car itself comes into play is when you use an outdated car. 7. If you knew anything about rallying you'd know that there are no starting grids and by extension no qualifying rounds. You race the stage and whoever gets the best time at the end of the stage has won it. Repeat until all stages are complete, and whoever has the least time is the winner. So the WRC isn't a qualifier's sport either. 8. Unreliable source. A driver's opinion cannot be interpreted as objective fact. 9. Let me restate something- _you are less likely to die in an F1 crash than a NASCAR crash._ It may be open-cockpit but there are many measures to ensure that the driver's head never comes into contact with the ground (and if it does it won't be compressed beyond human ability). Look to IndyCAR for seriously dangerous open-top racing. 10. Who's to say that someone like Loeb couldn't hand one of those back-of-the-pack F1 drivers their own ass? Not all F1 drivers are equally skilled- drivers in other series can have a better understanding of the mechanics than they do, even without the S-license to prove it. 11. Subjective opinions cannot be interpreted as objective facts.

Pike's Peak is deceptive. At the lower levels there are lots of trees and boulders just off the road, that's easy to see. But above the tree line the lack of features makes it difficult to understand from a video how incredibly exposed it is. It's very narrow, inches from the white line are sheer drops many hundreds of feet high, and the winds can be very unpredictable up as you round the shoulders of the mountain at 10,000 to 14,000 feet. It's different from the Isle of Mann, but it takes the same kind of crazy to race it.

Epic driving and amazing car, amazing skill to maintain that level of focus. Well done too to PeugeotSport for designing a great PP car.

That was very interesting. Pretty rapid also. Notice a drop off in his performance nearing the top ? Probably the change in oxygen levels, which Loeb noticed also and changed his pace up a bit more after the slow one. A great ride and a pleasure to travel with him on his run. But Hey! the start was sheer animal ,killer instinct.. Thanks Sebastien Loeb & Red Bull !

This is nice...but...well, it is not as it once was, when the tarmac was all gravel...90 % of it. A dozen years past (when I taught French in Tex-ass), I ventured there, for to drive a friend-friend's Audi. BUT(T) he never arrived... he got two speeding tickets enroute...became pissed-off & turned back to Oregon. I remained in the pits for most of the weekend, with a bunch of swell people, talking Hill-climbing in Europe...while we attacked waves of cold bière. By night-fall my ride disappeared and I had to beg a ride back down that mtn. In such situations it is a God sent to have a French accent & cute face...and be well-versed in Savate.

I'd say the performance dropoff was not wanting to die horribly flying off a cliff at 100 MPH.
