Funny story, I hiked the Grand Canyon. Zero issues going down but developed vertigo on a day hike on the second day. The hike out of there was torture. My body kept wanting to stop. Hands and feet were totally soaked in sweat. I was able to overcome it but at certain points I was worried I was going to get stuck on the trail. I had never had this issue on any other trails I have hiked. Very weird.

You just kept replaying that tendon pop... never stopped cringing 😖
@TheMrGunmann3 жыл бұрын
The sewing machine leg is not always connected to the hysteria ;) I sometimes have it due to some muscle thing... While belaying in a group of three (obviously securely tied into the anchor wit my daisy chain), my left leg started to have weird spasms. Probably I have just been tiring out some of the deeper muscles around the knee. Interestingly enough, the third person in the group with medical training, just pushed some pressure point and stopped that leg being a sewing machine. Anatomy is a weird and interesting thing...

Full Crimp is fine if you do it right
@Route_2_V113 жыл бұрын
Never, never full crimp ;)
@zacharylaschober3 жыл бұрын
The amount of force through his pulley dynoing off of the full or closed crimp is likely less than the force which would’ve been through should he have stuck the next hold reasonably open handed. This is unlikely to be an acute injury. A full and closed crimp is fine and often essential, but needs to be trained and employed appropriately.

The guy at 6:40 DID have a piece of gear pop out. It was right beneath him on the flat ledge he was right above. I have had errors like this happen with flat edges, as I think it can be hard to really test where the force of impact is.

I’ve had shakes a few times but 9/10 times I reposition which ever limb is shaking to release pressure off the nerve and then I’m able to stop the shake. Most times it’s because I’m on my toe with my foot at a certain angle.

Opinion: the climber at 7:14 did a poor job falling by pushing off the wall so much. She still would've slammed the wall even with less slack (although the slack wasn't good).
@paulgranada72033 жыл бұрын
Looks like she's falling on purpose, doesn't it? She jumps off, does this weird contortion at the end and then she's smiling... Maybe training the fear of falling?

I’ve had that sewing machine leg a few times. I think it’s partly physiological. If you weight that shaky leg it will usually stop.

That pulley popping was awful. This is why, and why i tell my friends to go gradually. Do all of the routes of a grade, or at least a good many before moving on. I would do all v1s before attempting v2, 2s before 3s, and so on. Ouch.
@dzb333 жыл бұрын
Pulley strains and ruptures can just happen. Pro climbers get them, experienced amateurs get them; I've gotten two injuries in my hands/fingers (one pulley strain, one lumbrical muscle strain) and both times have been climbing below my limit after years of conditioning on harder climbing. The pulley injury I didn't even notice until a rest day when I started experiencing pain. Of course you can do exercises for injury prevention (and I had done) and climbing with technique that reduces risk, but bodies rebel sometimes.
@kade64272 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure this happens when there is too much force on your fingers when crimping. Very common injury with climbing unfortunately. Resistance training of the forearms may help, but those tendons can be very sensitive lol.

Thats why I’m always mind blown about free soloing. I know they know what their doing and this wouldnt happen or its rare it would ever happen but what if they started having a panic attack free soloing or got injured like the last guy free soloing (without falling off obviously). WTF do you do then? I’m always thinking of stuff like that watching someone free solo (even though they’re so trained, prepared, experienced and would likely never happen but what if...). Thats why I could never do this. I just get anxiety once I’m not in a situation I dont really want to be in anymore, something as simple as being in someones car going somewhere then thinking I cant just leave or get in my own car and leave or whatever if I dont like it or dont want to be there. I obviously get anxiety and depression way too often, sometimes out of nowhere. So clearly I cant be climber nor ever even come close to free soloing something. It could be the smallest most insignificant thing (for most people) that I start getting anxiety and panicking over. I try to mentally block it out as much as possible, slowly count to 10, take deep breaths, close my eyes maybe, mentally reassure myself its ok and think good thoughts, anything I can but my mind most the time just has a mind of its own and I cant get negative thoughts out. I snowboard big doubles rails terrain parks, skate, bmx, race cars, etc so its weird I have this adrenaline side and this worrisome, anxiety, depressed side too. Almost like split personalities or bipolar going from one extreme emotion to the other along with anger issues as well. Never diagnosed by any of the doctors and therapists I’ve seen so I guess its an “extreme normal”. I’ve worked a lot on fixing my anger issues and its worked (let me just say never beat my girl, or did really f*cked up sh*t because of it incase someone was thinking that. I did stupid regrettable stuff but nothing along those f*cked up lines. However I did get into fights with other guys, not out of nowhere, they started shit with me or friends or my girl, sucker punching a friend, etc. and ended up sending me into a rage a couple times. Story time if you want...I was drinking this awful cheap green $10 handle of vodka when I was 17 called Emerald Springs. We were at party and all of a sudden I see this kid starts punching my friend (which was outside at this point) and I run over and jump in (i dont remember anything at this point) and I was told I was on top of the kid punching him but a lot of my punches were hitting the cement next to him because I was throwing wildly and also hit the car that was parked right next to us then was pulled off of him. Lets just say that was one of my lowest points. That kid also had a history of bullying me and a bunch of kids at our school and known for inappropriately grabbing girls and forcing them into “situations”. I dont believe to the full extent but would put that pressure on them. It doesnt excuse what I did to him but just letting you know he wasnt exactly a good person either *_(STORYTIME OVER)_* So anyway this turned into a rambling therapy like session but I’m just so mind blown about rock climbing without ropes and just holding onto these finger tip and toe tip holds and not worried about “what if something happens like a panic attack or injury of thinking I dont want to do this anymore” while you’re halfway up, hundreds of feet up, thousand feet up, etc.
