Jessica i really admire you, i really amaze myself, By watching you climbing Mount Saint Helens, you really had that gorgeous privileged to made It to the top and to the crater. Forty two years ago that was so beautiful, untill on Sunday May 18, 1980 around 8:45 AM. that terrible eruption began, that gorgeous place was totally Destroyed. That was huge devastation, the Mount losted the North flank I think, in a huge mud Land silde, i Saw ALL this happening on TV i guess It was Channel 4 NBC IN New York my hometown, i couldnt believe my eyes Sweet Jessica, that was so scary, even on TV!!!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️🌹⭐🌟😘👍👍🙏🛐💟✝️ Xoxo

Thanks for sharing your video and the great views. I've been fascinated with this Mt since the 1980 eruption. I live in Stratford, New Zealand and we have our own volcano Mt Taranaki in our backyard. I've summited twice but mainly just hike all the other trails every week. Best time is winter with all the snow. Mt Taranaki looks a little like Mt St Helens before the eruption. Taranaki is a sleeping giant and is expected to erupt sooner rather than later. Cheers again for the epic views.

Nice video. I only want to know when you climbed it. What time of year was it? Looked like summer. WE had a cabin at Spirit Lake and Mount Saint Helens was the first major mountain that I had ever climbed in 1973 We did it in March via the North side and the Dogs Head route. I remember coming down and driving to Spirit Lake and wading through waist deep snow to the lakeshore and chopping a hole in the frozen lake and then putting our hot, sore feet in the freezing water with a loud sigh of relief. Wow, did that ever feel great. My brother and I climbed the mountain numerous times before losing our cabin and two friends to the 1980 eruption. All that remains are photos are many great memories of wonderful times had at Mt. Saint Helens.

I have climbed this mountain 7 times summiting 5 of those. (My Avatar was one of those trips). All time favorite though was reaching timberline at midnight and summiting before sunrise. Total different climbing experience, and a lot easier than imagined given we were not battling full sun and the day's heat.

For anyone who climbs, don't stand on the snow shelves like at 10:13, there was a time where almost yearly, someone would stand on it and the snow would give out causing the person to fall into the crater to their death. Only one person has survived the fall.
@WanderJessica
@WanderJessica Жыл бұрын
Lol.. there has only been 1 death on this trail since it’s opening in 1982. 1 in 2010. We did not stand on the cornice since it was made very clear by the volunteers where that was. So.. anyways.
@freerobotsex

Yes...they were all clearly standing on the cornice in the video. They may not of realized it but it was easy to spot since it's already reseeding down the crater.

I've climbed it twice - once in July and once in May. I HIGHLY recommend May. Cooler and tho the snow can be bad on your eyes, come prepared. At least, you can slide down some of the mountain. What I found hard to do climbing up was reaching each marking post and thinking you're closer and then seeing another marking post ahead over n over and you feel crushed. July also brings wind-whipped dust at the summit that sandblasts you. In May, DON'T sit or stand on the snow corniches! Even in summer, don't go near the crater edge. You can hear landslides all the time.

We don't really understand Americans The clothes worn are unsuitable but they have been warned by the rangers. Lets go thorough what you need to do with the right knowledge and mentality. Be risk averse in everything you do on the mountain don't take risks as you need to be reused which endangers others. Hiking boots are the most important item of kit you need. This is a pair of purpose built light boots with thick grips that cover the ankle joint and are worn in before you go.This stops ankle breaks, keeps you upright on soft ground, and blisters forming. If you become injured you need rescue and that means wearing at all times BRIGHT COLOURED clothing which rescue parties can find your location QUICKLY. DO NOT wear dark clothing as helicopters may never see you. Always carry rescue equipment such as whistles or mirrors to draw attention to your location. Always tell other people where you are going and when.
