Make sure to stay well back from the snow cornices in Spring and early summer. People fall through and die occasionally.

That's the only trail I haven't gone on in that area. That animal grunting was probably down in those stream drainages that you cross just before you get to the main river. I too had a similar experience where I was going to the top of Bald mountain (the lookout) and I heard a very large animal breaking one inch diameter branches just out of view, all along in front of me and to the side of me. I have heard other reports that a bear is often spotted in that general area.
@WanderJessica9 күн бұрын
That had to of been freeeaaakkkyyy! Bears don’t tend to worry me too much. Most often then want nothing to do with you. It’s the thought of a big cat or something you can’t see or identify that you know is there that really gets under my skin

I like your mindset and attitude, and ability to think with logical reasoning. I do lots of solo hikes, and quite often descend at night after sun setting with headlight, and feel perfectly at ease and at peace.

Do your wet socks not wick the rain water down into your boots? I’ve had to pour water out of mine and wring out the socks and insoles.

i might not be from pnw (midwestern girlie) but the breatheable layers and wool socks are kinda goated, for similar reasons. a breathable jacket when it’s super sunny out is sometimes better than just going without, because sunburns SUCK
@davislindsey9719Ай бұрын
From a thru-hiker... this is for day-hiking and 100% inaccurate for overnight use. Waterproof boots take much longer to dry than mesh trail runners... waterproof socks. Pack covers wet out fast and are inadequate. Buy once, cry once rain jacket at 2lbs you'll cry about that weight more than once. A $20 frogg togg rain jacket at 6oz will keep you just as dry, and trust me, you're gonna sweat out the inside no matter what. This is for day-hiking!

Too bad they don’t make any of those out of any material that doesn’t cause me physical pain because of their sound to give you a description of how it feels when those make noise it feels like toothpicks being placed at the tips of my finger and toenails and then being driven all the way down simultaneously very fast And the only way to alleviate this pain is to scratch my scalp thanks autism
@starlady333Ай бұрын
😅 the solution is expensive but a hide jacket is waterproof, sustainable, and it doesn't make my teeth itch.
