If you can get the chain back over the tip and lined up mostly in the groove just start the saw and hit the throttle a few times with the chain loose and it will chase the burr off the drivers and settle back into the groove…. Happens all the time slashing and that’s the preferred method of fixing it. Also if you slip a track and need to suck in the idler just put a few short pieces of limb in the valleys between sprocket teeth and use the drive motor to spin them into the track when the grease adjuster is backed out, it’ll force the idler back and give you lots of slack…. I use steel pins on heavy equipment but I’ve used wood also when doing field repairs… Nice job on that tree, I’ve got a few like that to do here in the near future, did it all fit in the trailer in one load?
@metaspencer
@metaspencer 4 ай бұрын
Four loads on that one, including the logs -- more brush than ya'd think on a tree like that. Thanks for the tip on the chain ... I'll have to try that next time. In this case I couldn't get it in the grooves but I'll shave them down in the shop today. Yeah I used the sticks and it worked pretty well, with some finesse. Good to know that trick! thanks for the tip. I'm thinking I should carry a set of perfect sticks with me just in case it pops off sometime when there are none around

Yeah, definitely used to seeing the other Tree titles and this one actually caught my attention and intrigued me. Also a tip when throwing your chain in the tree or if you don't have an extra chain and your drive links are all burrd like that you can run your chain really loose and the momentum of it spinning through the sprocket, usually cleans up theburrs. Not the best way, but works in a pinch.
@metaspencer
@metaspencer 2 ай бұрын
I tried that trick of yours with the chain this past week and it works -- stiff at first but then the burrs came off. Great to know. Thanks man

Hey with the 201 when the chain came off and the chain wouldn’t fit in the bar, run your chain loose so it spins round the bar and gets rid of the burd metal on the bottom of the chain. I always find it useful to do when my chain comes off. Great vid.

Funny this makes me think of a job I went out to bid today -- in the backyard was a big old maple, half taken down and full of climb lines, pulleys, and rigging blocks. Hi, I noticed something: you threw down the small logs (top of the tree) on the side next to the road, then the middle ones to the side, then last the big logs towards the back. I don't think you said something about that. That was smart and good planning: reducing the risk of a big log rolling towards the road. I will have to keep that in mind if the opportunity arises. Cheers
@metaspencer
@metaspencer 4 ай бұрын
yeah from those heights an unpredictable roll can be a very bad thing ... when I'm on my game I try to make good mattresses down there for the logs, as well as some barricades to keep chunks from getting away. organizing the logs (I learned over time) can save ya some time during cleanup.
