@@UCDupleix depends on the peripheral damage. I tore my ACL and had no pain whatsoever because nothing else was damaged. Couldn't walk for shit for a day or two but could even walk and jog fine by mid-week. Had to get surgery of course because my knee wouldn't stay stable during full extension. For anyone wondering, Pete was kind enough to answer my email, the LCL tear does not require surgery, just rehab and things are going good. He started climbing 1 footed (funnily enough) and progressed to 2 foot. So things are going good, hope to see him crush again soon.

Surgery is usually not necessary for these kind of tears, but his knee will never be as stable as before without it. But you will generally not notice this in normal activities.

It wasn't until I turned the foot a certain way that it became clear something really was wrong. It is surprising the delay between an acute injury, and when the pain becomes clear that you have a significant injury. I think doubly so when your sport is based in part on pain tolerance.

Little tip for not using chalk that we use in the Czech republic🇨🇿: You can blow into your palms and on your fingers before or during the route. It's also helpful to wipe your hands into a rug/shirt during climbing. When you get used to not using chalk its not that big deal. In Jizerske hory you usually have way too much friction, because the rock is actually tearing your hands and everything that is in contact with the rock. I'd actually love to see how would Magnus deal with this kind of rock. Greetings from Czech republic!🇨🇿

I also tore my LCL by compressing my knee in an awkward way, bodies are weird like that, wish you a good recovery (and good effort) Pete!
@cornelisgraper86784 жыл бұрын
Actually it makes total sense if you were to hold a 3d model and tried that. It's hard to explain but when you bend the knee it gives you the whole length of the tibia to create torque onto the side of the knee with the ligament already on it's highest tension area. So basically youre putting a slightly elastic (5%)rope on max length and then apply brute force onto it.
@cornelisgraper86784 жыл бұрын
Idk if torque is the right word actually, my English is not great. Maybe "to generate force" would make more sense.

I knew exactly what happened when I heard that cracking sound. I tore my LCL on a heel hook about a year ago. The recovery wasn't so bad as far as climbing injuries go. I did no climbing for the first 2 months, then another few months of easy climbing with a good knee brace ( falling on the knee felt like the riskiest part of climbing for a while). It felt basically 100% healed after 6 months, but I still avoid cranking hard on heel hooks.
