I have kayaked the Clinch many times from Miller island to hwy 61 bridge and love it. Always take a side trip up Coal Creek, beautiful cliffs, quiet and secluded but you can only go so far before it gets too shallow to navigate. This trip is always taken on 2 generators flow as the Clinch and Coal Creek are seriously shallow on 1 generator. Take my word for it, you'll be getting out alot to pull over rocks. The flow rate at 2 generators is alittle intimidating but once you're in, pretty much all you have to do is steer. Coal Creek is on the right just before the high I-75 bridge, caution, you'll have to watch carefully and paddle hard to get out of the 2 generator flow at that point. Coming back out is no big deal. You will notice that the Clinch is a VERY perturbed river at that flow rate, but with 2 generators you'll have plenty of clearance over all rocks, just stay away from the shore lines and be watchful of any deadfalls. Just be ready to paddle hard should you want to go against the current. My experience, time from Miller's Island to Hwy 61 takeout about 4 hours with side trip up Coal Creek, be safe
