Welcome back to the third instalment of our Canine Chiari-like malformation and syringomyelia series on KZbin. In today's video, we'll be exploring the typical signs associated with Chiari-like malformation discomfort.
Chiari pain often manifests through spontaneous vocalizations, a propensity to rub or scratch the head and ears, episodes of spinal discomfort (occurring in the neck, mid-back, or lower back regions), decreased activity levels, challenges with stairs or jumping, sensitivity to touch or grooming, shifts in emotional demeanour (which might include increased timidity, anxiety, withdrawal, or even heightened aggression), as well as disturbances in sleep patterns.
Furthermore, we'll delve into the specific signs that point to syringomyelia. These include instances of phantom scratching, the development of scoliosis resulting in a twisted spine appearance, and weakness. It's important to note that these indications primarily arise when syringomyelia reaches a certain size threshold, typically at least 4mm wide in breeds like the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
