Rev. David Maginley is a spiritual counselor for the cancer program, palliative care, and ICU at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and an award-winning author of Beyond Surviving: Cancer and Your Spiritual Journey.
While David has degrees in philosophy and religious studies, his real education came from surviving cancer four times. This resulted in a profound near-death experience and explorations into the nature of consciousness and the connection of body, mind, and spirit. He knows what it’s like to have cancer from both sides of the hospital bed and has a sense of this life from both sides of the veil.
David is ordained with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, a specialist with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care, a member of the Canadian Association for Psychosocial Oncology, and the International Association for Near-Death Studies, and is featured in the documentaries Here Right Now, and When You Die. David is also an avid photographer, using the camera as a tool for self-psychology and conducting workshops on creativity and spirituality. An advisor for provincial and federal cancer initiatives, David lectures throughout Canada on meaning in suffering, the wisdom of grief, mindfulness, death and dying, compassion fatigue, and integrative spirituality.
Please enjoy my conversation with David Maginley.

You do such a beautiful job by placing your hand on their hearts and telling them to let go..! That's wonderful..! I wish I had done that to my father as I was by his side when he was passing away in 2020.. ..but as a solace, I did something similar by saying to him aloud that he will be just fine wherever he will go and to go happily.. (he was partially unconscious) just minutes before he passed away.. only that I didn't place my hand on his heart.. but I am so glad I said that.. and i hope and pray it helped his soul in some way.. 🌸🌺🙏🌸

When I was a teenager at the age 16 I was coming home on a Christian bus. I heard a voice say via mental telepathy say hold your sister the bus will stop short and she will get a egg on her head. It scared me!!!! I held her and then said this can not be! So, I let her go! Within a minute a car ran a stop sign, the bust stopped shorts and my sister hit her head on the bar and got a large egg on the front of her head! I was stunned! I wouldn’t talk about it to anyone. I was in church and our pastor ask for those who wanted to be saved to raise their hand…has a teen I was not going to raise my hand but I needed God so much and then the Pastor said God sees those who raise their hands in their hearts in that moment Gods love and Holy Spirit went through me! It was such a perfect love I started to shake it took all I had to not fall to my knees. If I had died in that moment it would have not been in fear but in love. I didn’t have a NDE but I was dying in spirit. Alone…loneliness. Again when I was 17 years old I went to a party well I discovered that there was alcoholic and drugs!!! I was tying to find a way out and still look cool. Again!!! a voice came to me and said leave the police are coming!!! This time I listened! I asked an x boyfriend to take me home this was not my kind of party. As he walked me home I told him what happened. He was heading back to the party and saw the place getting busted! In school the next day he ran up to me in school and told me what had happened and then thanked me for telling him and by him walking me home kept him out of trouble. Eventually my x boyfriend got cancer of his arm and died a young man. I can only hope our time together helped him.

Awesome message, exactly 28yrs ago l was diagnosed and told l don't have much time left. So l returned to be close to my family waiting for the day, but my conversation with GOD was l belong to you and when you want to take l am ready, stopped visiting doctor's. I was given a puppy and started to focus on him, he taught me unconditional love and l learnt to see God in the eyes of every being. I live with chronic pain and l embrace that too, it gives me strength to persevere and my relationship with GOD is all love, For some reason l think we can only focus on GOD if we have a physical disability, so we can stay on a spritual path. No matter what incidents take place in your life there is a lesson to learn and we are never alone, but we do feel alone in this physical body. GOD'S LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO ALL. Beautiful interview God bless for the work you are doing.

My entire life consist of bullies, my family, even my adult children treat me like I'm not good enough, and I spoiled them. Once I prayed and waited for an answer, asking God why we have to be here for so long...my mind was clear, just waiting. "To learn to love" came to my mind. It's still difficult getting older, knowing your a kind loving person, yet others aren't nice to you, and ignore you, because they think they are better.. It wears you down. I pray for them and feel bad for them, yet it's a lot to suffer through.

What an enlightened, deep and loving spirit this man has. This is what religion should be, not some Baptist fundamentalist raining hellfire and brimstone upon his congregation. I long for the time when there will be many more people in the US who are enlightened and aware of what is really important. And love for everyone and everything on this planet is what should be at the center of everyone's lives. That will save us and this planet in the end.

Im still uncertain about NDEs, I'm afraid that they are evil lies in disguise.. I mean jesus did say he wasn't going to return until the end times and primarily as a conqurerer. Its hard to look at that book with love, filled with contradictions and blames passed down onto us and just even the destruction of the end times.. Like who's going to go through that unscathed? Through all my time of worrying i see i follow the religion because of fear of hell and not love at this point.. Why do we have to go through this stupid war of there's, better off not existing at all if some of us are just going to suffer forever. I feel like im withering away coming back to this worry

I was an extremely dogmatic professing Christian for years. All though I had many awe inspiring encounters with God or Jesus, they usually were when I was younger and not so theologically based. What I've come to believe, is that a lot of Christians and churches are more mind based, intellect based, than soul based or spirit based. There are claims of walking in the Spirit and such, but it is typically all study, reading, and doing things in a physical nature. More than spiritual. One thing I look at differently is the tree of knowledge of good and evil. To me now, that represents symbolically, the need for man for certainty, facts and figures. The grasping and needing mental constructs..needing to be certain of what is "right and wrong." Rather than walking in spirit, intuition, our deeper essence; we always choose to eat of the mind...a material aspect, rather than faith..a spiritual aspect.

My thoughts are as a Christian that much of our spiritual journey is beyond logic and even the intellect . It is one of energy with alignment and agreement . Rather than thinking it is for me more being such as being the light . If it were not something like this relying on feeling and discernment with love as opposed to logic then only the theological scholars could find God . I do respect all others beliefs and know that there are many paths to know God .

I love that... "The poverty of words" ... exactly. Agreed... No way did I want to come back here.. I just wanted to stay In The Light... HOWEVER.. by coming back I got to learn so much more, that could ONLY be accomplished here. So now I SEE why coming back was SO important. No one could ever have explained it to my mind... first something profound had to happen... and it HAD to happen here.. on Earth, in this human form. Before this profound change happened, my mind was believing that I had to get *THERE* .. to be In the Light. However once I was Transformed by Grace / Shakti...( the REVEALING power of God / Infinite Consciousness).. in one Divine Instant I realized that there was no "there"... there is only HERE and KNOW. and there is ONLY God... choosing to manifest as All this. Understandably, most assume that Jesus came to show us the way to Heaven.. but actually His purpose was much greater. His main purpose was to Awaken those who were currently ready to His own Divine State. Heaven is lovely, but the REAL Prize is THAT which is the Source of Heaven. God definitely saves the BEST for Last. Creator and Created are ONE and the same. We are ALL the THAT of *I AM THAT* The mind, being finite, can never fully grasp this ultimate underlying Infinite reality. This is why a profound Grace Awakening is necessary. Grace alone allows us to Transcend the non-local / non-physical mind and merge FULLY into THAT which is the Source of all minds. Heaven is lovely.. but is not the ultimate Goal.... God / Infinite Consciousness is HOME.. And whatever the mind THINKS THAT to be will always fall short. BE THE LIGHT

I totally relate to the grief and depression / density you feel once you’re back in the body… I did not have an NDE but when I was 18 I was reading Dannion Brinkley’s book on his NDE which triggered a 2-week long spiritual awakening but I want to call it more of a remembering my spirit. I was living in extremely high frequencies during these 2 weeks and it’s indescribable so I want to call it a Quantum Experience. It had many of the features of an NDE except I was here on earth (no drugs or alcohol involved) yet I was living “in the Vortex” as Abraham Hicks would describe it. I was able to see the grid, how we are electromagnetic beings and we are all connected by this field. I was able to look at the homeless guys in the streets of Houston where I lived and I KNEW, “wow… he is part of me & vice versa. We are all ONE” and I felt an intense unconditional love for everyone. It was ineffable. I was able to comprehend things like Quantum Physics which I love but it blows my brain up for the most part trying to comprehend what was effortless to me during this 2 week experience. I’m 48 now so this is when I was 18… my frequency eventually lowered because I don’t think it’s possible to stay on that high frequency while we are here on earth. No one could relate to me. I tried to explain it to people but was told that I’m crazy. There was no Internet back then so I never could find a tribe or even one soul who understood me. It got super depressing and my frequency lowered to grief which I think is when I started drinking a lot of alcohol to numb out and it was the closest thing I found to connection with people again. No one talks about how difficult it is to be immersed in unconditional love and joy only to find yourself back in lower frequencies because like you 2 discuss, you now know what you’re missing and life in this time space reality doesn’t compare to the other side. Ignorance truly is bliss!! In case anyone wonders, I did struggle with alcohol addiction most of my life but these days I help other people as a spiritual life coach quit addictions and become the best versions of themselves. Maybe I had to go through all of that in my past and face addiction myself so I could truly understand and have the compassion it requires to serve others. Anyway, I love this interview & it inspired me to tell my story. This is my FAVORITE podcast ❤Thank you both ❤

@J V I totally agree we can live on earth in high vibration and joy, however, the level I experienced was on another dimension - it was a quantum level experience which prevented me from being able to relate on a human level & vice versa. It was literally “out of this world” but this was all 30 years ago & of course I’ve learned to integrate that experience into my life and I teach people Law of Attraction and things of that nature. I feel like this experience might have happened because I needed it to put me on course for this lifetime’s mission. It helped me find my purpose. I wouldn’t take away any of it, not even the depression because that’s how we learn 💖

The same thing happened to me. The effects linger to this day. I still see the grid. I astral project almost everyday and see things that are beyond this realm. The whole experience is indescribable. The downside is not wanting to participate in the current matrix games after seeing through the veil and no one seems to understand.

I had a similar experience except it was not a NDE. I had a vision of Paradise and saw things that no words can express. I communicated with beings there without words and it was incredible. The most amazing thing was the love that filled my whole being and the next important thing was the life I was experiencing. The life I feel now seems like crumbs of life in comparison. I then had a conversation with God or one of his representatives and he told me that he wants to see the other members of my family there. When the vision ended, I was extremely sad for days, but then a bit later experienced the complete opposite, that is, a vision of darkness with no God or godly attributes. It was terrible. After that, I was balanced again in the sense that I could see good things in this world too because I had been to a place with no God and God is here in this world too to a degree.

An excellent interview. Thank you both so much. This actually touched my heart so much and really helped me to understand possibly what my father experienced during his life. When I was 10 years old, doctors gave my father a week to live because he had severe cancer. He didn't die then, but lived another 40 years of intense suffering. I asked him one time how he was still alive. He told me he met God and was given a choice, told him he wanted to live. I can only think he had an NDE that he didn't tell anyone about. I can only imagine how he felt, keeping all his thoughts inside, never sharing them with anyone. He was a very quiet man, kept everything inside. My mission now is to connect with his energy, and others, to hear the messages they couldn't tell us while they had a body. Many blessings to everyone. 🙏

Listening to this was very enlightening and also very very comforting. I loved when he said seeing the being that greeted his during his NDE was like meeting up with someone you’ve always known and loved but didn’t know why. Throughout my life I’ve felt little aftershocks of that and it’s weird to hear someone put words to it. I am probably going to have to listen to this a second time. It was so deep in its simplicity. I wonder when we will get to the point in life when it’s not only OK, but customary to be happy for those who have passed on or gone home, and to say so without a doubt. As well. I wonder if there will come a day when I can say “I look forward to the day I go home,” without people being offended or thinking I am suicidal. I think the presence of so many NDE channels here on KZbin, plus books, documentaries, etc., it might become customary sooner than later. We can only hope.

You can be happy in a loving way. I remember asking a customer about her father, whom I hadn’t seen for a couple of weeks. Her facial expression changed and without a word I understood he had passed. She said he had died in his sleep. I responded “what a wonderful way to leave this world. Your father was so special that God took him quietly in his sleep. You should be honored he left quietly and peacefully, as he deserved”. Her eyes glowed; she understood for the first time her father did indeed pass in a dignified way, the way he deserved!

Yes, living as guided avatars. I've felt heavy tension at times when making a few life specific decisions which i did not know were poor choices at the time. (Manager job which had a huge influence on getting divorce which was a relationship which was very very dear to me). I've since learned to pay attention to that "tension" and honor it. Or say no. Haven't regretted the no's since. I did regret the unfortunate "yes's". God was speaking in those moments.

Wow, Alex, thank you so much for having David Maginley as a guest. He is amazing, and everything he said rang true. Best gem for me - recognize what is your homework and what is another's homework. In other words, don't get mixed up and try to "do" another person's homework for them, or tell them or teach them what they should be working on, or try to fix another. I'm in that place of trying not to judge others when they trigger me. It's the triggering that is the gift that is showing me what MY homework is, LOL! My challenge is to see the divine in the other and love them for who they are, even when they are triggering me, getting on my nerves, ha! Learning to let all that go and just love. Yes, everyone, shine your light. Let's get there, when science and spirituality come together and materialistic scientism (the fundamentalist religion or dogma of science) is done, outta here. All things I've been sensing and saying for years now. Thanks again, this is a five-star show!!! Give it the thumbs up, everyone!

Years later after meeting the girl of my dreams decided to get married in a Lutheran church because it was closer to what I believed, but wasn’t quite there and stopped going not long after. HOWEVER, I would excitedly go every week if David was my pastor. I feel like he gets it! And because he admits he’s still searching, makes me want to trust him.
