Thanks buddy, This was the only update I could find on the Sylvania. My experience is I did one car with the Spray Max 2000K aerosal clearcoat. The other with Sylvania Headlight Restoration kit. I sanded both to 3000 grit. I liked the results of both, however they were quite different. The 2000K clear coat is toxic so you have to wear a mask to spray. You also have to really know how to layer properly with a spray can and you can screw up. Since you are spraying you have to mask off a significant portion of the car. You have to know what you are doing. It was a great deal more hassle but the results were a much thicker and harder coating which still looks about the same after a year. The Sylvania was easy peasy and a total no brainer. I have to try and mess up. The downside is it is a much thinner coating and not as hard so it doesn't last as long. It is not quite as crystal clear. After a year Sylvania is still looking nice but not like the original application. I can get a couple of years out a Sylvania application where a properly done 2000K clear coat spray will get me 4+ years. It is obvious the thicker 2000K clear coat is going to be a LOT more sanding to get down to original lens cover to redo. All said and done I think I would stick with the Sylania having more frequent but easier reapplications.

Yeah I just ran into this issue. My 2k clear coat repaired headlights started to yellow after 5 years. Sanding that off was an absolute PITA. I had to go all the way down to 180 grit. So this time I used the Sylvania kit. OMG was that easy. I could easily 1000 grit and reapply every year and it would be less work than the 2k clear coat.

The best kit I've used is the LightRite. My headlights stayed perfect for 2.5 years sitting outside in the sun. (After that, instead of turning yellow again, the coating will start to peel off.) Great video. I just used this kit on a 2008 Volvo where the lenses were in extremely poor condition; solid matte yellow. They now look brand new. That said, instead of 5 minutes of sanding per phase/grit, I did almost 10 for the 400, and around 7 for sequential phases. I was surprised how little of the final treatment UV solution was needed. Sylvia is says “the thicker the better” so I was liberal with it. That said, I’m around 20 hours since finishing and it doesn’t feel completely set to me. I’m in a cool climate with current temps 6C or 43-ish F. Just a heads up if you’re in a climate like me. In addition, the UV protectant is harsh. Make sure you’re in a well ventilated space.

If you're thinking of doing another headlight restoration video, I'd be interested in seeing you review the Cerakote Headlight Restoration Kit. I've got 5 cars with dull, yellow headlights and have been researching my options (including using my own DIY kit). After several hours of online research I believe the 3M kit does the best headlight prep, the Sylvania kit produces the best results initially, and the Cerakote kit provides the best long term UV protection for the plastic lenses. Most importantly I'd like a long term solution, but I'd also like the headlights to look their best if possible. Maybe I need to purchase some 3M sand paper and a Cerakote kit...

Coming up on two years, how's it holding up?
@ClintHolland3 жыл бұрын
It looks great but to be fair it's because I redid the kit. After about 1.5 years it looked really bad and I had to redo it.

I used the Sylvania kit a couple of weeks ago and I too got fantastic result. I was hoping they would look good for longer than a year. Have you tried the Meguiar's headlight coating to refresh the look? If not it might make a good test to see if it will maintain the new look. Thanks for the video!
@ClintHolland3 жыл бұрын
I haven't but I did pick some up recently at the request of another comment. I need to redo the Sylvania and then start using the Meguiars so I can make another video in a year or so from now.

@@ClintHolland I got two cans at Walmart, ran about $8 each. I'm going to apply it this weekend

@Patrick Day how did it come out?

Nice to have an update. About how long did it take to do both headlights, I don't remember if you said?
@ClintHolland2 жыл бұрын
I probably did both in 30 minutes.

Id bet a sealant would help them from hazing as fast
@ClintHolland2 жыл бұрын
I am actually testing Meguiars new product that you spray on once per year and it's supposed to keep them from hazing. Will eventually have a video on that too.

What happens if the cloudiness comes back a year later? Do I have to repeat from step 1 and sand everything over again?
@ClintHolland4 жыл бұрын
Doubtful you would have to do all the steps all over again since I doubt there would be much pitting and scratches. Plus, Sylvania offers a lifetime guarantee on this so you can get your money back or another kid if it does yellow.

Did the kit come with the blue tape or was that your own?
@ClintHolland3 жыл бұрын
That was my own. I just used some painters tape.

Do you use one kit per headlight or does the one kit take care of two headlights?
@ClintHolland3 жыл бұрын
One kit does both headlights. You can probably get 4 or more headlights out of it.

Is this kit hood enough for both front headlights ??? Or is the kit just good for just one headlight ???
@onlysadnessremain2 жыл бұрын
Worked good for both of mine
@ClintHolland2 жыл бұрын
@@onlysadnessremain You can definitely do 2 and there is probably enough left over to do 3 or even 4, depending on how big your headlights are.

I have the budget to buy new headlights (left and right) or buying a restoration kit. What would you do if you were in my position? Buy new headlights or do restoration?
@ClintHolland3 жыл бұрын
Personally I would buy new headlights. If you do this kit, you are going to be redoing it every year and while it is pretty cheap, it's still work you have to do every year.

That's crazy took you a year to finish this video haha. But great job. I have a question, did you apply any kind of uv protectantt wax every few months to protect the clear coat? Malco makes good wax
@ClintHolland Жыл бұрын
Yep, sometimes it just takes time. I did not but I am currently testing Meguiars Keep Clear headlight formula which is supposed to keep this from happening. Check back soon.
@kenholt829710 ай бұрын
Hmm... Had I seen this video before I purchased my Sylvania kit, I wouldn't have spent the money on the kit!! Simply using Turtle wax scratch remover(or equivalent) would last a year and is much cheaper!
@ClintHolland10 ай бұрын
You are correct. So many cheaper products that do the same thing and last about the same time. I am currently testing a product called Keep Clear from Meguiars.

Did you do each step for each headlight at the same time? Or just the last step? Thank you. Great results and thank you for the review. I bought this kit for my car.
