The reason for the factory closures in France is mainly to relocate to countries where production is cheaper, with lower paid workers. However, some of these companies make a huge profit, but shareholders always want more. The rotten world of greed 🤮

Hymn to the workers in memory of the singer's modest origins came out in 2001. Active since 1965, Lavilliers is known for his unique blend of French song, rock, reggae, salsa and bossa nova. His musical career is marked by travels around the world, particularly in Latin America, which have influenced his style and lyrics. His father, a member of the Resistance during the Second World War and a trade unionist later, was a worker at the Saint-Étienne arms factory.

Bernard Lavilliers was born in the industrial town of Saint-Étienne. It's my native town, which I love for its history, its architecture, the kindness of the inhabitants who have a special regional dialect called the "gaga". Some specialists think this name is a gaelic word linked to "metallic ore". The steal factories in France were bought by a huge Indian company, Mittal (we see this name in the video) and M. Mitall decided to close all of his factories in France for rentability reasons. The French president Sarkozy (who appears also) had promised to do something to rescue the workplaces, but we see also the burial of his promise...

Helas!

Bonsoir, Bernard Lavilliers is a complex character... He is a talented author and singer. He is appreciated by metallurgists because he worked in this field during his youth in Saint-Etienne. At that time, he was involved with the "Parti Communiste Français" and later, the "Fédération Anarchiste". He drew a lot of inspiration from South American and Cuban music. He has traveled extensively, but he has a strong tendency to embellish his journeys. However, his mythomania is part of his charm. The "Fatals Picards" band even wrote a rather affectionate song about this subject. Bernard Lavilliers is our very own Chuck Norris. He can do anything... if he’s the one telling the story. Cordialement, Lyzbeth d'Andrésy.

The guy we can see several times in this is Edouard Martin who was supposed to fight with the workers but he betrayed them ! 🫡

And at the same time, politicians talk about fighting against desindustrialization... Where's the consistence there ? Money before people's lives. That beautiful song makes me think of Peter Gabriel's Don't give up.

Not about pollution, just sold to an Indian Steel boss and then closed definitively in order for him to get the world lead of steel. So it's how all our French industry is destroyed step by step since 40 years, specially our strategic industry. For me it's just hight betrayal !

A very bad and in the same time very powerfull and expressive song. An other one in a different way is "il ne rentre pas ce soir" d'Eddy Mitchel. An other french singer who is talking in this song what's happen to an old employed in a company when the charactere in the song is fired. After that you can also listen the historicals protests songs like "la semaine sanglante". Just before google the title of this song to get the historical context.

A masterpiece! But ... the price to pay in the name of "progress" and of our society's transformation. My grand' father was a coal miner who spent the last years of his life spitting out his lungs ... What to do? Train all these workers to become traders, bankers, lawyers??? These are terrible times, when reality catches up and teaches us that "the good old days" weren't that good after all, and that it is imperative that we shift to another setup. Sadly, "on ne fait pas d'omelette sans casser d'oeufs" ... and generations are ... those eggs ...

Belle chanson ,beau texte.

83 / 5 000 These French workers have been abandoned, but the industry continues elsewhere. Never mind, it seems that pollution is more acceptable when relocated to India and China...
