Thats a great idea .. when i do my horse in the winter its dark and i have to be careful not to look at him with my head torch .. that would be great i could just point it af the ground away from his eyes ,😍 not sure i fancy trail walking at 5 am in the dark 😱😱😱😱😱🤣

Hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense, most animals don't like bright lights (including me, ha). Winter AM trail walks can be treacherous, but it's good for building agility. (:

The red light is also supposed to not make you as visible to others from a distance compared to the white light. Not sure what the exact physics are, maybe it doesn't travel as far through the forest because green stuff mostly absorbs red light. So it might be helpful if you're out by yourself and prefer to keep it that way.

Interesting, I can see that the red light is dimer, but it probably looks stronger with night vision goggles on.

Red lights are really useful for nighttime sky watching. Photography etc. Very useful walking trails in dark sky preserves. I also sometimes use red light if I wake up in the middle of the night and have to use the bathroom. The red light makes me not wake up as much and get back to sleep easier. That's a neat looking light. My carry light doesn't meet your use case here, but I really like my Olite Arkfeld Pro. The magnet on the base is so useful, I love the green laser, and UV I find useful as well. I've had lights from Nightcore and Fenix as well. I just really like the profile of the Arkfeld.

"wake up in the middle of the night" True, I never thought of that, but you're totally right. I'll have to try it next time I get up and it's dark.

Good review as always. About night vision. I believe the bit about 'red light preserving night vision' is referring to human night vision, which can take upwards of 30 minutes to fully activate, and is dispelled upon exposure to non-red lights.

Gotcha, makes sense! Probably why I seem to prefer using the low beam all the time vs the high.

Saw your soft star shoe reviews and looking to getting some but the warranty states: Shoes that are dirty or shows signs of wear are ineligible for return. How am I supposed to try them without developing signs of wear or getting them dirty?! It snows here, the second I step outside will it void the return policy? Anyone have experience with this?

It's because they make all their shoes to order. Best thing to do is to is try them out indoors, which gives you a good sense of the sole thickness and flexibility, as well as overall fit. Or you can take a look at Realfoot, who also have an extra-wide toebox with a more flexible sole (although Softstar is better for rugged trails). kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKKlnKCLrK5pftk The Natural Runner bit.ly/47frhoe is a good alternative to the Softstar Primal RunAmoc. If you have specific questions on any of them, just let me know.
