He is so still and patient. My dog prefers to tap dance.

Mine prefers to act like I’m amputating his legs.

Wow the difference between the after clipping and the dremel is remarkable! I am working on my dog's quicks and its the two outer nails on the front paws that are so long. The middle ones are shorter lol. He is not a fan of the dremel but he is seeming to tolerate it a little more than last time! Thank you for this video!

Ahh okay...I always clip across but I'll have to try clipping at angles and "take the helmet off" as you explained. Good to know I can take more off the top of the nail too..I didn't realize that dead stuff on the bottom of the nail is the external quick! I always file that down with a really rough acrylic nail file bc if I don't, a lot of mud from outside gets trapped inside it (despite using a denture toothbrush to clean out his nails Everytime he comes inside!)

I’m interested as to how you are so confident clipping that first cut seemingly so big. So the cut is technically perpendicular the nail itself? My corgi's nails are both clear and black, and quicks are far too long.

So, yes, perpendicular might be a good way to describe that first cut… but for a better visual, jump to 0 min 44 sec on this video and look at the purple line that is shown in the picture that comes up: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6Wnf51vatR3opIsi=akbXSPjZS7dkxwYk I have a fair amount of grooming experience so I know on that dog I can see the quick and tell from the texture how “deep” to make the first cut. It may take some practice but once you learn what’s safe (and what’s not!) you get better and better and make less mistakes. I have been a groomer for a long time so some of my skill is based on having made mistakes in the past unfortunately!

💜 I looked up the clippers there’s about four different kinds of Millers. Which one do you recommend? Thank you. Where are you located? I got my husband to watch the video, but he still won’t do what I tell him.

They’re usually referred to as the “red handled” miller’s forge. There’s a link in this video description. Hope that helps!

Hi there! Love your videos. Do you happen to have one about trimming semi opaque nails? Not quite black and not quite clear. I can’t see my pups quicks and I’m trying to recede his quicks.

Thank you so much! Hmm, well, I have this video about doing Black nails: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6jHg4GsiJZgoMksi=gK7mIPbNinqJV-81 let me know if you still have questions after. I personally would approach semi-opaque the same as black. I’ll let you know if I do any demos with middle-ground colored nails!

What clippers do you use? I have tried everything. He will not stay still when I cut. Hates his nails cut. Scared to death. His nails are supper thick and it is hard to cut.

These are miller’s forge red handle clippers. Some like the miller’s forge orange handled for the bigger size but I haven’t tried those. It’s better if your clippers are sharp to actually cut instead of “crush.” The millers forge brand is a fan favorite according to the internet and I like the brand too. Some dogs have a harder time tolerating the process so it can be a matter of compliance regardless of how good/sharp your tools are… hope that helps!
