@sebastiancooper77926 ай бұрын
I think if you went straight from part 1 to this plot, it would feel like they were just repeating the same movie with the same stakes: but this film shouldn’t’ve started with Mike as the superior fight when Daniel had just won a death match. Daniel should’ve won his first fight with Barnes, and have the superior numbers be the thing that required Miyagi’s intervention. After that, the mind games gradually take their toll. Then here, having spent some time with Mr Miyagi, Daniel wins a point or 2, but ultimately Barnes’ ruthlessness takes its toll again, until finally Miyagi gives Danny the pep talk he needs.

I thought 3 was a very underrated movie. Not only did it show a different side of Daniel and a pretty crazy storyline with all the deception, but it introduced the final boss of the villains, Terry Silver. Now, as far as this fight goes, I thought this was the highlight of the entire franchise.. because I really felt like it was the birth of Daniel’s manhood right here. When Miyagi screams in him as Daniel is whining and crying about how he’s afraid, Daniel shuts up immediately, and you could just see in his eyes that everything finally sunk in. It’s the first time Daniel feels complete control of himself. He’s completely confident in fact, it was pretty intentional to show his mindset that you see Barnes, screaming, and yelling and ranting and raving, but it all of the sudden becomes background noise to Daniel. Mike had Him totally psyched out and petrified the entire movie, but it was at this particular moment that Mike was powerless. I like how he gazed over it Terry Silver and John Krees.. it’s like he’s taking all of this in. None of these guys are intimidating to him anymore. He was completely letting go of his adolescent self and once He stood up, bowed to Miyagi and turned to Barnes, it was OVER! Mike could have beaten Danny the boy from now until the end of time, but against Daniel, the man. He had no chance. I thought Mike’s reaction was priceless. I understand that the kata moves confused him, but I think he was more thrown off by how Daniel’s whole persona changed. He wasn’t scared. He wasn’t frantic. He was calm and cool. Mike looked over to His corner like WTF is going on here? Who is this kid, and where did LaRusso go? Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but that’s exactly how I saw it. Maybe not the best film in the trilogy, but certainly the best ending in my opinion. Great moment for Him and Miyagi.

You know, I enjoyed this movie for what it was. I kinda always thought of it as Daniel never took Karate too seriously and his lack of dicipline showed throughout this movie. He didn't fully understand the purpose of why he was taught it, he still had his ego, pride and silly child-like flaws. I loved the fact that in the end, what Miyagi taught him were basic principles that gave him confidence, he never built on it and the movie never got too deep beyond this. But seeing someone who dedicated himself to being a expert & real bastard (Barnes) vs a kid who learnt some basic karate from a true master never quite grasping what potential he had. Great moment in the end, Daniel shedding the fear, ego and finally accepting the fight and the massive overtuned ego of Barnes (who was probably a better figher) with a terrible Sensei (though we don't really know where he learnt it all.) Not a gr8 movie, but I enjoyed it for what it was, sometimes you meet someone who is a real asshole and better than you :P

@@ToroBravo144 In Cobra Kai season 4, Silver bribed the ref to be biased towards Cobra Kai. He was always a wealthy man in KK3 and Cobra Kai. Why wouldn't he do it KK3? He also said earlier in the movie that he would bribe the jury. So logically, it makes sense the Mike Barnes wasn't disqualified for all those illegal hits because Silver wanted the ref to go easy on Mike so that he can prolong Daniel's suffering. The fact Daniel won the tournament against the strongest Karate Kid bully is better than any feat the Cobra Kai teens have.

Daniel only had to fight 1 fight and had plot armour lol 😂
@hunterofcamas90906 ай бұрын
@@alanchamberlain9902 While Daniel only had to fight one fight, we have no proof Barnes was tired from the other fights. If anything, he likely wasn't phased by those and even had time to rest before fighting Daniel. Plot armor isn't an argument. That excuse can be used for anything so it's insignificant. Mike only dominated a Daniel who wasn't at his best. When Daniel let out his best Karate, he defeated Mike. His AP is shown to be able to hurt Mike, with Mike doubling in pain after the hit while Daniel tanked many of Mike's hits. So technically, Daniel slams and it isn't plot armor.

I really think it should have ended with Chozen. Either only have 2 karate kid movies, or part 3 really should have been part 2, since I always thought Chozen should have been Daniel's most difficult fight and it was a fight to the death.

He actually got a nerf in the script intentionally. That’s why Miyagi said “Your best karate is still inside of you” because he knew Daniel’s fear was holding him back the entire time. Terry Silver was immediately terrified when he saw that Daniel was using Kata. Because Daniel was focused and not scared anymore. Cobra Kai takes this concept much further.

I would have to loved to seen a series about Miyaki as a young man with Yukie and Sato. How he fell in love with his Japanese American wife and how he became a decorated WWII soldier.

TLTR: Daniel is recovering from the grooming of flaws and abuse in him by Silver, making him doubt himself and his foundations. While Mr. Miyagi taught him Katas, or a Kata, to help physically and psychologically heal from the completely different mentality -- even unhealthy attitude and bad muscle memory Silver instilled into him -- he is still dealing with fear. I think that is why he doesn't fight as well here. But he overcomes that fear, and he still wins. That is the point. LTR: I think the reason why Daniel didn't fight as well in this film as he had in the other two was really Terry Silver. It is that trope of the evil martial arts master that trains weaknesses and vulnerabilities into a student so that he can exploit them, or others can do so. This diabolical man gaslit, manipulated, and physically and emotionally abused Daniel when Mr. Miyagi didn't want to train him just to win a fight. This was before Mr. Miyagi knew about the extent of Silver's lies and plans. He used Daniel's frustration, and had Barnes attack him all the time, while engineering his exposure to Cobra Kai. Think about it: Silver pretended to be a good man, a big brother figure, a friend that Daniel could relate to while Mr. Miyagi -- who was a father-figure -- would not help Daniel train to deal with Barnes, and all the while used Daniel's own aggression, and self-doubt to sabotage himself. Daniel didn't fight well in the Tournament because he was still unlearning all the horrific lessons that Silver instilled into him, things that were against the philosophy of Miyagi-Do -- of Karate as self-defense -- as well as all the emotional abuse. He was basically grooming Daniel to fail. Interestingly enough, in Cobra Kai, it turns out Silver's moves -- the Quicksilver Technique -- was a legitimate fighting style that Daniel ends up using against him, but from a very different mindset. This is a man, not an abused boy anymore, who had the time and the patience to continue his training in Miyagi-Do, in its mentality, but also adapted its techniques. It's like how Robby went to Cobra Kai, but used Miyagi-Do techniques like the Drum Technique against the school itself. Daniel is a child, or a very young man here who has been abused and he is only just recovering from it due to Mr. Miyagi's guidance with the meditative qualities of the Katas, or the Miyagi-Do Katas. Barnes is a mercenary martial artist and a professional himself. It isn't the same as when Daniel dealt with Chozen and for all of Chozen's abilities, he knew he was right. He had that certainty and knew Mr. Miyagi stood by him. Here, before the tournament, Silver engineered Daniel doubting even his relationship to his teacher. I do think that the last two films were better than the third, and the fourth just seemed to be pretty much a rehashing of the first with Hillary Swank, but I can see why Daniel was the way he was in this film, and scene. And KK III paved the way for Cobra Kai, which really fleshes it all out.

People complaining about how badly Daniel fights in this movie need to remember that his karate actually sucks in all of them. All three movies are the same basic underdog trope that was hugely popular in the 80s. In each one, he spends the entire movie getting easily beat down and pushed around, and the whole point is that by the climactic final fight there's no way Daniel should win but somehow he pulls it off anyway against the odds.
@adamdavis53834 ай бұрын
Barnes are messing around to much he should have been disqualified anyway but if he tried Daniel had no chance. He honestly should have lost against all 3 but Barnes is definitely the hardest one with his fast and how hard he is hit. Johnny was definitely hard too.

Also if you sse the training Daniel receives is more about mastering oneself and the spiritual side of martial arts rather than strength techniques. Daniel does hold his own till Barnes starts doing cheap shots like hitting groin
