It’s still pretty cheesy. You can tell it’s choreographed and at no point do I feel like either of the characters are trying to hit each other, much less hurt each other. Daniel was a kid without a father figure in his life anymore, and Miyagi never got a chance to fulfill fatherhood because of his wife dying in childbirth in the internment camps. They needed one another in that sense, so I've always assumed that was a fitting and intentional end to the original films.

If he moves to California, Daniel could offer him a car on a discount with Daniel being the owner of his business and maybe he could help Chozen start his own business as a karate teacher. The same for Kumiko that now that her aunt Yukie has passed away, I can only hope she moves to California and Daniel does the same for as he does for Chozen except he can help her start her business as a dance teacher since she loves being a dancer. (This scene here makes me happy that Daniel didn't kill Chozen and it was lucky he saw Mr. Miyagi refuse to kill John Kreese which gave Daniel the same idea).

@@williamshelton4318 It's good in some ways that Daniel saw Mr. Miyagi refuse to murder John Kreese by honking his nose for him to pass out which is why he got that idea to honk Chozen's nose not to murder him (being unknown if Daniel was strong enough like Chozen to murder Chozen himself). Regarding Daniel being sent to prison in Okinawa, that would still be unknown because there were over 100 witnesses (including Mr. Miyagi) around that castle area who saw that Chozen made that choice to make Daniel get rid of the bridge to start a death match against Daniel where after Daniel said "now I dropped the bridge let her go" where Chozen said "now we fight to the death" where Daniel had no choice but to defend himself and he if had to murder Chozen, that would have been his only defense where if a police officer came and said "Daniel Larusso, you're under arrest for murder", the crowd would have stepped in and said that it wasn't his fault, he was only defending himself from Chozen who was going to murder him.

This is what missing in the CK show since it started, a no rule life and death duel among the teenys. And if it should happen, my money is Robby will be involved in it. And the writers saved the drum. The real drum technique with these devastating palm strikes wasnt seen in the CK show yet...i would be surprised if it doesnt show up in Season 6.

The lack of music almost during the entire fighting sequence made to feel it more brutal than already is. In retrospective, you could say that Chozen is the most dangerous of all the opponents Daniel had to face by a big gap, not only because of his fighting skills but because he was determined to finish Daniel. You can tell that the writers of Cobra Kai love him and that they wanted to redeem the character. I dont know about it honestly, i mean i really like Chozen in Cobra Kai but, for me, it is hard to conciliate the character from the movie with the character from the series. He seemed like a psycho. The fact that he wanted to kill Daniel for real and also that he held a knife to kumiko´s throath is hard to overlook. What Jhonny and Mike Barnes did was child play in comparisson.

No joke, I think this is one of the best movie fight scenes ever bc of how realistic it is. Not talking about the circumstances...that's all for another conversation. But I mean each blow landed (and there aren't a ton like most movie fights) does damage. Daniel gets a lot of shots into Chozen's ribs and you can tell he is really feeling it by the end. Daniel takes more head shots, and you can see by how bloodied he is. These two guys only fight for about 3 minutes and only land so many hits on each other (as should be the case with two nearly even matched opponents using the same fighting style) and they are just completely beaten and exhausted by the end of it. I think most would be hard-pressed to find many movie fight scenes like it.

They walk on the same path with a humanitarian trait. You can’t learn if you don’t understand, the philosophy of whatever,you’re trying to accomplish. Daniel’s teacher taught him martial arts,gave him knowledge & most importantly gave him strength of character.

"This not tournament. This for real." The power of that statement is incredible. I've taught you what I can, but this is life and death. He needed to make sure Daniel understood the assignment, and it goes back to the beginning when Miyagi could have killed Kreese but didn't because "For person with no forgiveness in heart, living even worse punishment than death." And when the drums kicked it in all made sense for Daniel. The balance that's found.

I really am curious as what happened to Chozen in between the Cobra Kai flashback (when Chozen would use a pillow in the sand to soften the blow) and here
@henevideo628 Жыл бұрын
Stuff like the sand conditioning taught him that there’s no easy way out in his culture. So he becomes obsessed with doing things in the most intense and brutal way, like getting girls and defending his pride (like we see here).

It’s not really a theory but it kind of is. Maybe the reason chozen redeemed himself in cobra Kai was because after he lost the fight, sato managed to speak sense into him, chozen took time to understand the art of peace and 30 years later he put on a front and made it seem like he wanted to kill Daniel for so long. Another way is a probably a few years after sato had actually died and chozen used his death to make a promise to fix his issues.

Kumiko was awesome, she had a knife to her throat bit seconds later still goes to attack Chozen. Actually she always stood up to him. I really wished Daniel and her were together at the time, but now I hope Kumiko and Chozen get together. So she forgave him for all the shit he pulled in this movie, yes a keeper.

I love the detail of Mr. Miyagi’s statement to Daniel before he crosses the bridge. “Daniel-San. This not tournament. This for real.” It’s Mr. Miyagi’s way of confirming that Daniel knows what he’s getting into before he crosses. Not because he doesn’t want Daniel to save Kumiko, but because he genuinely wants Daniel to be aware of all the potential consequences. Truly a thoughtful, caring man.😁

What these 3 celebrities, Tamlyn Tomita, Traci Toguchi and Yuji Okumoto who reprised their Karate Kid 2 roles in Cobra Kai all have in common is that they're Japanese-Americans but the difference between them is their generations. Tamlyn Tomita who plays Kumiko is issei--first generation. She's from Okinawa, Japan, Traci Toguchi who plays Yuna was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA and is nisei--second generation and Yuji Okumoto who plays Chozen was born in Los Angeles, California, USA and is sansei--third generation.

Watching this, I think Chozen was bluffing about killing Kumiko, because he knew Daniel had feelings for her. If 'getting his honour back' was the goal, killing her would have annihilated his honour forever. Plus, as Cobra Kai confirmed, he had feelings for her since childhood. If he was serious, and didn't care about her, he would likely have at least cut her a little bit to tempt Daniel. But he didn't injure her at all, and just hoped Daniel would fall for it. Ps. notice at 4:55 how after he punches her during the fight after she tried to garrot him, he immediately notices what he's done and goes to check on her to see if she's ok before Daniel distracts him again.

I really wish part 3 and part 2 were switched around. Mike Barnes should have been in part two, and after this scene, it would follow up more consistently with Kreese getting with Silver, wanting Daniel's "knuckles to bleed". Silver could mess with Daniel and cause problems along with Barnes and he faces someone even greater and more ruthless than Lawrence Since Lawrence is kicked out, maybe he could have redeemed himself. Possibly learn from Miyagi who saved him and even be a sparring partner for Daniel, so he can face Barnes, who would basically be like the Clubber Lang of Karate Kid movies. Then after he beats Barnes, Daniel should have went to Japan and faced Chozen, who would be his most difficult opponent and at the end of the movie, it would tie up nicely because it would be the final movie and the one that has a fight to the death. I think this is what they should have done, because honestly it almost feels like it should be switched around and would flow so much better. And Daniel and Kumiko would be together.
