That's because in most sneak attacks, the surprise Is over when you jump out so the yelling is just to encourage them and possibly put as much shock factor in it as possible. But in this case due to visibility and noise obscured by the machinery its actually possible not to know the sneak attack is happening at different areas so it helps to be silent.

Plot armor clearly. The Harkonnens know the fremen does not use shields due to the risk of angering the worm, they do not as well. In Dune a nuclear explosion happens if a laser beam hits a shield so first they have to take out the shielded helicopter then they can just laser the mining vehicle.

Honestly, their tactic is kind of stupid. Why does the ambushing team shoot the rocket? Instead of just the guys who later use the lasers on the big ship, why dont they have the rocket launcher to destroy the helicopter at the start when it mowed down almost the whole ambushing squad

Probably safety concern. If they shoot the laser right as the shield comes up there's a massive nuclear explosion. My question is why wasn't the rocket ready to fire from the start of the attack. What if one of the troops gets lucky and takes out the rocket team?

1. Those missile launchers are hard to come by as they have to be smuggled onto the world. Same with the lasers. They’re very difficult for Fremen to produce. 2. The thopter has a shield. It only opens the shield when it shoots and so just surprise attacking the thopter with a missile would just result in the shooter being mowed down in response. The missile will not damage it if the shield is open. 3. The laser needs a lot of time to actually fully destroy the harvester. They have to fire for quite a few seconds before the harvester is in an irrecoverable state. If the thopter is not destroyed first, it will simply annihilate the laser team, killing valuable soldiers and destroying valuable lasers. 4. If you try to laser a shield, a nuclear explosion occurs at a random point along the laser’s path. This is why they do not laser the thopter and have to use missiles 5. Neither the harvester nor the people on the ground can have shields, as shields throw worms into a killing frenzy. Therefore only flying vehicles like thopters can have shields. Due to the reasons above. The ambushing team has to shoot the rocket because the ambushing team will be the only ones facing the thopter when it opens its shields to fire. The guys who shoot the laser can’t use the rocket because the thopter is shielded. And they’ll be killed if they just open fire on the harvester. None of the people that got mowed down had the missile launcher because they’re rare only one person in the group had a launcher. During the opening scene when the thopter first opens fire, the missile launcher wasn’t even loaded. Dunning Kruger much

The ornithopter will hunt them down from the air and report on their tactics if it lives, so it has to go down first. Lasguns striking shields create a massive detonation that would wipe everyone out, Fremen included. That leaves forcing the thopter to expose itself to attack while trying to support the ground troops. Really cool to see them following the logic of the books to plan out the scene!

it's important to specify that lasguns cannot be used against shields because it causes almost nuclear type explosions. The thopter has shields because it is in the air, therefore not bothering the worms. The harvester doesn't have shields because it would send all worms into a frenzy. That's why they have to take out the thopter with slow shield -piercing rockets before destroying the harvester

in the first scene you'll notice the Harkonnen say "no shields" because theyre being fired at with lasguns in worm territory...again, huge boom boom if their shields get hit with lasguns. The use of shields on Arrakis is basically limited to hand tobhand combat within the shield wall or outside worm territory. Flies away in thopter farts

The entire purpose of the ground battle was to destroy the shielded ornithopter so they could safely use the lazguns. Lazguns are rare and valuable weapons that the fremen have very limited access. It’s would be a bigger loss to the fremen to lose the lazguns then it is for the Harkonin to lose the harvester, so it’s only a winning battle for the fremen if they can guarantee the Lazguns will survive. If you start with the Lazguns the ornithopter just kills the gunners and destroys the lazguns immediately. Because it’s shielded firing at the ornithopter with the lazguns will destroy everything, including the lazguns, which would be a net loss for the fremen.

The harvester didn’t have a shield but the ornithopter did. The thopter could easily take the gunmen down and report back to the Harkonnen about the attack, and a stray shot at the thopter with a lasgun would kill everyone. They had to take it down beforehand and then they could freely laser the harvester without any officials ever knowing.

For the ship its when a fast enough projectile hits it that it stops the shot but they need to lower the shields to shoot fire out of it, its why you see the rocket going through slowly when it goes back up. On the ground they dont use shields since they attract Sand worms.

Harkonnen soldiers are basically slaves and conscripts, its why House Harkonnen was scared to go it alone against the Atreides, in the first movie we see a small line of Atreides troops kill like 20 Harkonnen soldiers without a single loss House Atreides troops were highly trained by a Ginaz swordmaster (basically a better Sardaukar) and a highly skilled Warmaster, its why it took the Sardaukar to kill them

Don't really buy the "intentional" argument at all. One guard turns his back on an active threat just to walk very very slowly over to the chick with the rocket launcher who could and does blow him away. Looks very silly and makes no sense tactically. I feel like the average civilian could perform better in this scenario than these guards do. I understand that they are outclassed but this is too much because even if it actually were intentional, that just means that there cannot be any real danger to the fremen because of how hilariously incompetent the harkonnen soldiers are written to be. They weren't THIS bad in the books either. Imo just poor choreography.
