Stilgar's story is tragic. He starts off as a tough, wise Fremen leader, mentor, and friend to Paul, but by the end, he's an unthinking zealot.

"In that instant, Paul saw how Stilgar had been transformed from the Fremen naib to a creature of the Lisan al-Gaib, a receptacle for awe and obedience. It was a lessening of the man, and Paul felt the ghost-wind of the jihad in it" - Dune, Book 1.
@jamesstreetart8 ай бұрын
@@meldroc I had a similar opinion until I saw another comment someone made about looking at it from Stilgar's perspective. We as the audience know that the prophecy is manufactured and that the Fremen are being deceived, but Stilgar himself is a true believer who has had his faith rewarded and seen the promises of his religion realized right before his eyes. His messiah has returned, destroyed the Harkonnens who have been oppressing his people, and is promised the green paradise that's central to his people's hope for the future. We know he's a pawn, but all he sees is every wish he's ever had coming true.

@@jamesstreetart tbf at the end of the day even if he is a pawn he is happy. The Fremen get literally everything they ever wanted in Dune: They take revenge on everything who has wronged them, they become powerful and they protect there homeland, they get a lush paradise for 3,500 ish years. Yes there core ideas and religion are a lie, but at the end of the day it gives them what they want. Its a bit sad but they in the end "win" at everything.

What I don't get is.. why are the scales/skin plates orientated towards the front of the worm? I mean, holding them open inhibits the worm from diving back beneath the sand do to sand being able to get inside, right? Then wouldn't the natural evolution of the worm have evolved the scales to orientate towards the back do to this reason? Sand would be getting in there without the Strattle claw things. I dunno tho.. the plot has to happen some how I guess.

Try not to get caught up on the minute details, you'll just unravel every movie in existence you intellectual.
@user-rl4tg2mr9n8 ай бұрын
The way the sandworms travel in the movie is by essentially aerating the sand, and making it more liquid. The skin plates are oriented towards the front because this directs the sound (the deep clicking) towards the front, allowing the worm to travel. Otherwise, the sound goes behind the worm which wont aid its movement at all.
@goodcitizen30278 ай бұрын

@anjelica948Ай бұрын
From what I can tell, the reason they can ride at all is bc those hooks pull on the protective flaps that keep the sand out of the worm’s breathing apparatus, which forces the worm to the surface to not suffocate. I assume that they have many of these openings, and by pulling or relaxing on specific ones, that’s how they stere. Similar how if a horse has a bit in its mouth, and you pull on one side, the horse naturally turns that way bc of the pressure.
