Can a bad catalytic converter cause a P0171 & P0174? I have both showing. Can't seem to find a vacuum leak and Indy nearby says I need a catalytic converter.

Great insight- my e90 just had a eccentric cam sensor replaced due to leaking oil in the plug however, abut 48 hours later we got a code and check engine light for catalytic converters clogged. So do you think that repair has caused the clogging? (valve cover gasket, etc, replacement)

I used a type of cataclense And followed directions. Then blew it out on a big empty stretch of road. A HUGE MASS of black smoke came out. The next moment my "check engine light" went off. And the next day I passed my smog test. 1997 740i only has 80,000 miles on it. A dream car.

Heads Up ,I have used all cerma oil products the Best !!! Just there gas Add alone does evrything saving on MPG and never had injector issues as well . Works like a dry gas coats ceramic throughout ,increases Octane 8 Points ,I Know have run 87 Oct in my M3 NO PING and ran strong !!! I trust implicitly

Gut the cats, meaning remove the catalyst from the converter and install the secondary oxygen sensor cheater. To get rid of the smell and noise, add some aftermarket catted exhaust pipes. This should get you to pass Cali smog, that's how some other German car brand enthusiasts do it

I have an 07 328xi wagon 420,430 codes. I believe it was from a bad thermostat. Do the spark plug spacers work to run the cat monitor? If so what part numbers do I need? Thank you for your help. Trying to keep the light off just in case there is a secondary issue so I can see the sel if it comes on. And save for new cats meanwhile. Thanks

I have a 2963 code Dme Oxygen sensor before catalytic converter bank 2 Dynamics and 28A2 Dme air path monitoring, I put new oxygen sencers in the exhaust 2 weeks ago and I put a Oxygen sensor bank 2 in the manifold about 2-3 months ago, I wish I could have pur them in all at the same time but didnt have the money at the time, can u plz tell me what them codes mean, the obd2 scanner I have Creator C310+ 2004 BMW 325i M-54 is my car

Do you recommend any tested cleaner? My 545i e60 n62 v8. has the driverside blocked, and engine losses power, oil gets dirty fast and I can't replace them cos of cost. Thanks for a response

Should be able to gut them without removing the headers, no? A long drill & a shopvac. I don’t know how far away the bolt on section is on this one from the cat, but on my N62 is just right there.

I don't think removal is too much labor. Gutting is what I also suggest doing along with adding aftermarket exhaust section with aftermarket cat to get rid of noise and smell to pass the emissions

fastboatster Yea. Lucky me, WA state just canceled all emission testing (law expired technically, without being renewed) . Even when they did, they just plugged into the OBD. If car thinks all is good, you pass.

@@jooper99 Cali is actually the same thing, but you need to pass a visual inspection, that's why you need to keep the gutted stock cats and keep the noise and smell as stock as possible. They didn't cancel this testing, unfortunately

Hey Nathan i’m getting cat efficiency codes every 500 miles or so with afe high flow catted headers, would a tune that cancels the 02 sensors fix this

I have random misfires on bank 2, and p0430, p0420 codes.. I replaced all plugs, changed coils on 4 and 6 that threw codes, and I'm changing exhaust vanos solenoid soon, I'll clean the vanos filters and change air filter too, I'm posting cause I think it's relevant so.. x) 09' 328i xDrive, N52n 165k. Well maintained.

I have 2004 BMW 325CI and no codes on car. Very sluggish going up hills - spent 2K diagnostics and replaced mass air flow sensor, spark plugs, cleaned fuel injectors. Car worked ok for a week then got worse. Mechanic said he could not help me anymore not enough knowledge. Brought to dealer did back pressure test and concluded I needed catalytic converters as level 4. $3800 - car is worth 4K . Brought to next mechanic did nothing for a week except drive it down the road and said I need cats at $3500 plus 1K O2 sensors plus possible engine block damage. I’m towing car home tonight. Is it possible to have bad catalytic converters without codes being thrown ? I don’t trust any mechanics anymore. I asked the new guy to do a check to see what’s clogging and he let car sit for a week. I love my car I have had it since 7K and now 158K. I’m thinking maybe the mass air flow sensor replaced is bad. No oil burning from car . This has been going on 7 months would you please advise ? I have no support system on this - thank you

@TheDasio123 Would it not be better to run the lacquer thinner through the O2 sensor hole directly onto the cats ? I have suspected cat blockage but dont want to risk putting thinners in my fuel tank.
