Welcome back, good to see a new video from you, hope you and your family are all well. Retention ponds are a lot more important than many of us realise, keeping the pond outflow clear is essential maintenance for the pond to do its job properly. So easy for these ponds to cause local flooding if not looked after. Excellent video, that outflow compared to inflow is very satisfying to watch.

Hi Mike, thank you for this interesting post, showing us the hard work that you do clearing out culverts and rivers, in this case the retention pond, and adding to it with information about nature. Your photography is really clear, showing us exactly what you’re doing, and it’s entertaining watching the released water surge out. Im looking forward to more posts from you.

The metal door over the discharge is a backflow prevention door so when the river is in full flow like after a major storm water cannot flow from the river back up the pipe and cause the retention pond to flood.

That's a beautiful area you live in. It's great to see you again, I really enjoyed this. Next time the water is flowing would it be worth trying to lift the lid a bit with your grape to see if there's anything stuck behind it? Giving you more work but that's what armchair dam busters do! Best Wishes, Brendan.

You pointed out the water chestnut being an invasive species...but aren't the carp also an invasive species? Looks like you're living in an environmental disaster area. Bet you have Japanese knotweed growing over there too.

Me living here in Florida so many things arrive and challenge what's native to us. I accept that nature is always changing, some we agree with and some we don't. Currently we're struggling with Lion fish here and years ago we fought water hydrilla. Good news is more "giant" prawn (large shrimp) are showing up and at a foot long and a pound each only takes a few wild caught to feed a family, well !

I only happen to be aware of the Water Chesnut as my brother and I were looking up plants to put in his pond and we seen these one day in another location and used Google Lens to ID and learn about it.

Rocks slow down fast water flow
@Grab_your_Waders2 ай бұрын
On the inlet side they were laying higher than the designed height of the exit pipe slowing the flow of water. Not a big deal if running slow but torrential rain and the pond at capacity it needs its full diameter available to keep up.

I would be grateful if, rather than just saying: “…I’m at a local reservoir/river/waterway…,” you would state the names of the location, nearest town, and also which state you’re in. Try to bear in mind that your audience are located all over the world.
