Clogged Sink Drains? Baking Soda & Vinegar Can Be A Cure!

Many folks heard about using baking soda and vinegar for clogged sink drains. But do we really know if baking soda and vinegar will unclog certain sink stoppages? Or do we know how baking soda and vinegar actually works? In part 3 of our baking soda and vinegar live demonstrations we'll attempt to clear out a tough sink type of clog. We actually combined 3 different items to form this clog. By mixing together coffee grinds, hair, and butter (to act as a grease) we'll clearly see how effective baking soda and vinegar is in handling this sink clog via clear plastic drain pipes. You should note that this is a "closed drain" system, which allows the gases formed to work optimally. If your drain system has branch lines, an overflow, or a vent line, the gases will not be able to build up pressure inside the drain pipe. In those cases, the baking soda and vinegar might not clear out sink clog, or other clogs unless you block off the other outlets or inlets. Also note that these are soft clogs. Typically baking soda and vinegar are not effective to clear out hard clogs, such as hardened grease.

Thanks! Great video. Got a clogged kitchen sink. My daughter put grease in the drain. Tried Drano with no results, now I'll try soda an vinegar. Wish me luck! Later: nope. Well, unless the grease leaves the area voluntarily I will have to get a plumber involved.

The easiest fix is to unscrew the sink trap and physically clean it out. It doesn’t need any special tools. Should only take about 15 minutes. Put a pail under the trap first!

@@DavidBalkan It worked! I was worried I'd have to buy some tools, at least a monkey wrench or something. But my daughter was able to unscrew it by hand! Used a bucket, the water poured out and wow! this block of grease just slid out. We were all really excited and impressed both by the ease of the repair and the size of the grease. My daughter is the one who poured the hamburger grease in the drain so she was the one who had to do the repair. Everyone is happy, the dishes are done and my daughter has promised not to pour grease in the drain again. Thanks so much for the advice. I would have hired a plumber if you hadn't suggested what to do!

If people put coffee grounds in their sink, they are asking for trouble. I know that cooking salt, vinegar and baking soda work!
