Crazy seeing this game on the stage. I was pretty active in the custom scene like 14-15 years ago when we were still playing hacked and burned copies of Guitar Hero 2 on PS2. It's amazing that not only has the community remained, but grown to this level. It's even crazier that people are getting better and better all the time. HOW MANY WAYS CAN YOU POSSIBLY HIT 5 BUTTONS LINED UP IN A ROW?! I'm glad there's people keeping guitar hero alive. GH3 was IMO, one of the greatest games of all time and Clone Hero really took the baton and ran to the moon. Amazing program, amazing community. Godspeed, Vaseline.

As someone who, out of a team of a whole twenty or so somethings that started the DDR simulation scene in 1999 - ripping old soundtracks and synchronizing arrows to them and encouraging the Special K to bring dance games from overseas to the states - to see what the music game scene has become today is awe-inspring and leaves me so humbled! I had NO IDEA it would become the magnficent kind of community it's become today.

I'm so glad the hand cam was included in this showcase because god does it really make teh whole thing much more fun. Guy looks like what a cartoon character does when they play insane guitar in their shows, but like dude was doing it in real life! His hands moved faster that my brain could comprehend!

I saw the video on Frif's channel, and thus was unprepared for the start. With that in mind: still a very pog run GDQ. We should really make an all rhythm games event sometime

Your explaining the ways some of this is straightforward, but all I'm seeing is that there aren't enough frames in this broadcast to display the true skill going on.

@olliefischer Жыл бұрын
i mean it's a showcase not a speedrun...afaik clone hero speedrunning doesn't really work in the sort of time frame that GDQ demands
@TonyTheTGR Жыл бұрын
Music games and fighting games as a whole are very difficult to classify into a "speedrun" kind of setting. It honestly took years of actual speedrunning games that were more friendly to the format before a "showcase" was welcomed; and it's less about speedrunning and more about the performance aspect of the games, and to give some variety to the content as GDQ has grown over the years. I mean, one could technically try speedrunning "Story Modes" or "Arcade Modes" of fighting games, but not to much dramatic effect. The best candidates imo would be Soul Calibur's modes like Edge Master Mode or Chronicles of the Sword (which is NOT a fast game, but there's 4-hour JRPG runs now, so...), Street Fighter Alpha 3's World Tour Mode, etc. But fighting games have made their *own* scene as competitive circuits - which hasn't relied on GDQ for its' drama. I'd love to see some, though!
