Cloning my voice with Descript Overdub and ElevenLabs

I did a test of descript's Overdub feature and how it compares to cloning a boice with eleven labs.

That seems like a wonderful use for this technology. I think it will be more accurate in a few months that it will feel more correct to the original source voice.

I just did Descript and Eleven Labs too, and Eleven Labs easily won. It sounded exactly like me and was instant. I only read for two minutes. I read the Descript script for twenty minutes, and the results sounded like I was speaking in a hall.

The best demo and comparison that I've watched yet. I tried Descript first and it was slow, and after a few more A.I. voice thingies I found ElevenLabs(EL). So I cloned my voice and used ElevenLabs to narrate three small books. I wish these apps counted words and not characters ... maybe make blanks/spaces and newlines free (they are quiet, after all). If only EL allowed more control over pausing "a reading" (they offer: 3 dots ... and blank lines, but I often hear laughter or notice a loud breath for the 3 dots) then it would be better. I wonder if voice-over artists could somehow rent or sell their cloned voices for use ... keep the job going. Thank you for sharing this. Enjoy! ☮ p.s. forgot to mention, that my EL voice clone was used to record an audiobook which passed all of those tests for ACX, Audible, well, after doing clean up in Audacity (talk about bad UI)

Excellent video! I have been utilizing Descript for more than a year and I am contemplating incorporating Eleven Labs into my workflow. If you intend to integrate overdubbing into your projects, it is advisable to utilize the same microphone in Descript. However, with Eleven Labs, is it crucial to utilize a specific type of microphone, or is having clear audio sufficient?

Thanks! I think ElevenLabs is doing its own cleanup of your input audio, along with whatever changes its making to your voice to fit into its voice creator. So I think clear audio would be sufficient. I did recently try to make some Overdub tweaks of my ElevenLabs voice in Descript, and it doesn’t sound exactly like 2 different people, but there is a difference in the cadence.

It said in eleven labs , sample should have 1 min long , and when adding the voice they are doing 25 samples , this means each sample with 1 min long , that will be 25 min of the voice + quality to have the perfect results ?

Hi can I record my voice in 11labs or should I need an external recorder like audacity and then upload an MP3 file?

You would need something like Audacity. I don’t believe there is a way to record directly in ElevenLabs.
