The hopper cam is back ! I have a close call with some stubborn appliances while rolling through this heavy apartment complex on a rainy Friday.

What’s the name of the cup holder you got there. I drive an autocar a well and the cup holder is trash 😂
@hopperhustle Жыл бұрын
I’m glad you asked ! I promote the hell out of these. It’s called a Swigzy. I’ve bought em for every truck we have here cause those Autocar cup holders can barely hold change 🤣 here is a link to it on Amazon: Swigzy Car Cup Holder Expander Adapter (Long Base) - Holds Hydro Flask, Yeti, Nalgene, Large 32/40 oz. I hope that you had a good vacation brother. Nice to see you back in the saddle. Usually when I see cords hanging out of the doors, I will get out and see what they are attached to and push them back inside the can before dumping it. Takes a little extra time, but I've had too many close calls like that over the years with vacuums, old style TV sets, microwaves, etc. etc. Stay safe out there and can't wait to see what you have coming next week. 😎💪
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
Thank you brother. It was definitely nice to hangout and not do anything at all 😂 that’s a good point on the cords ! I do need to double check myself on that if I see them before I dump a can. Learn something new every day right ? Always appreciate you, stay safe out there as well. I think you’ll appreciate next week’s video the most !

I like that u have tote tippers on ur fork bar!!

It definitely took some getting used to 😅 you have to leave 2 inches of cylinder out on the forks so it doesn’t smack the windshield guard !

Great video! Loved every minute of it. I am surprised you popped the tailgate....but these things happen. Cheers from Vancouver BC Canada🇨🇦

Thank you ! And yes, unfortunately it had happened to me before. That’s why I always clean my tailgate too whenever I dump just to be sure. Cheers !

I drive for a city in Ohio just south of Columbus. I hear you complain about your turn radius in a few videos but honestly yours turns better than mine. I showed a few coworkers your videos and the first thing they say is how shocked they are at the two joysticks you have for moving the dumpsters. Anyway great video

Thanks for the comment ! Yeah I was spoiled by my previous Autocar, it could turn in a full circle almost. Yes the rabbit ears are about all I’ve ever used in front load although the Mack I drive now does have an X pattern single stick. Appreciate you watching and sharing as well ! Stay safe out there -

Congrats man ! Always keep your head on a swivel and don’t let yourself get in a hurry, speed will come with time. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. It’s always better to be safe, taking unnecessary risks is like luck - it runs out eventually. Other than that, never miss an opportunity to pack your truck and have fun out there 😎 thanks for the comment and good luck to you !

whats your guys policy for bulk items? If it fits it in the can it dumps? Those are some of the nicest enclosures ive ever seen. so clean. At least no gates to mess with.

Great video, thank you for sharing it! How much does this job pay per year?
@josebadia1932 Жыл бұрын
I drive for waste management I started at 26 an hour and work 58-62 hours a week and I average 1700-1800 a week, take home is 1200-1300 . I only have 6 months experience. Keep in mind there are drivers that are making well over 38 an hour who been with the company for over 5 years

Would you let me ride with the garbage in the hopper it’ll be safe as long it’s halfway or less full 😉

If there are heavy things with garbage bags on the floor furniture chair whatever it is you also have to get off And pick it up???
@hopperhustle27 күн бұрын
Nope. If it's not in the can, it doesn't go. If you picked up overages for every can you dumped, you would never go home. Thanks for the question.

How do residential drivers know where to go? Do they have to memorize the route or is there a gps that helps guide them?
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
You definitely memorize the route over time. If the company trains people the right way, they’ll have a swing driver or loader with them that knows the route to start. In my experience tho, most companies will have overhead map printouts and have them printed out in sequenced sections from start to finish highlighting the truck’s route.

Are all your cans 8 yard slants?
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
Nope ! Got everything from 2yds to 10yds. Even have some tall ones in 8 and 10, some dock styles and slotted for cardboard. I’ve done a lot of videos of the 8yd slants cause they’re usually the most loaded 😅
@rearloadmaster4854 Жыл бұрын
Great video! I’ve been doing garbage since 2015 and love it. I did a year of front loader but I’d say it just isn’t for me. Been on rear load commercial and residential ever since. Keep at it.

Any tips for a new cdl driver ? I just got my class A and I really want to drive for a trash truck company. I’m in LA and there are 4 companies I know of. I applied to all 4. 3 denied me instantly and the 4th hasn’t even opened my application. The 3 that denied me only specified you need a cdl license as a requirement so I’m just very confused on why they would instantly deny me
@hopperhustle27 күн бұрын
If you can find any garbage company that is hiring, you will most likely start out in residential with having no experience in the waste industry. You've got to start somewhere and residential is a good place to start if you want to get into working in trash. Give Indeed a shoot and search CDL B driver, the big waste companies usually show up. Good luck -

Do you drive side loader by any chance?
@hopperhustle Жыл бұрын
I used to ! Residential is where I got my start. I was on the back of a rear load in the beginning, got my CDL and took over that rear load route. Then went to side load. I didn’t mind doing side load, once you learn your route you can really move on it. I drove an Autocar ACX w/ a Heil Python arm.

Is it realistic to pick up 150 to 160 cans in a 10 to 12 hour day? Company I am considering pays by the route and he says a route is about 75 to 80 cans? Thanks for the help
@hopperhustle Жыл бұрын
Yes it is. Especially if the route is condensed. 75 to 80 actual cans to service on route is on the low side. Unless it is very spread out which most recycle and paper routes are that way. I would definitely ask for details about the route you would be on. I haven’t worked for a company that does incentive before so can’t help you much there. I would tell you to look at all your options before picking this company tho. When you’re new to this, like anything else, speed comes with time. I would think being paid on incentive would add pressure - which will cause you to rush. You don’t want that. Better to start out at a company that will let you get your feet wet and allow you time to get your skill up. That’s just my opinion tho, you do what’s best for you. Hope this helps, good luck to you 👍

have you had to deal with a trash truck fire before
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
Yes I have ! It was years ago in my CNG side load truck. Full of recycle ! Someone threw out a drill with a lithium ion battery, the packer blade crushed it and it had a reaction with something else in the hopper that caused it to ignite. Thankfully I was pulling into the yard when the smoke went up ! It never fully caught fire and the recycle was all salvaged.
