Glad to see that you are back brother. I had been wondering how things were going with Republic. You are right, there definitely is a difference between the big corporates and the Mom & Pops. I agree, it is more of a family atmosphere qith the smaller local haulers. I enjoyed your vlog and the new truck as well.💪💪💪

Please do a video walk around of your new truck! All the specs of the truck A to Z. Act as if you’re trying to sell me the truck. 15 minute video, good lighting. I think it would be really interesting to see a new clean truck. Thanks!

I’m thinking about leaving WM and going to a smaller company
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
It is definitely a preference thing, I think. I started at a local company that is pretty large in the city I live in but is ran like a mom-and-pop. My current company is the little guy but growing quickly. I think that’s why I didn’t care for Republic because it was just a different atmosphere than what I was used to. More corporate, more rules, more robotic really. If a smaller company near you can pay you want you need, had the benefits to match, and a decent fleet - give it a try !
@jaredmaloney67042 жыл бұрын
Some divisions at Republic and waste management can be more family and less robotic but I’m not sure mines are are I plan on working for a local company a waste master solutions, trash tech or evergreen

I told you Republic Services is whack. They don’t care about their employees, that’s why most of them quit. I was there for 2 years and in that time frame, I saw about 100 drivers quit, about another 100 got fired, it’s a real headache. I was running 2 routes daily, 6-7 days a week. Their payroll system was hacked and we weren’t getting payed properly so I QUIT!

Nice seeing you back! I love the look of the ACX and the clear hopper cam. Not every video has that! I definitely see you working at a smaller company rather than RS. Do you have or know of any videos of residental GHW? I looked in earlier comments, and you said you worked res with an ACX python. Keep up the great videos, and welcome back!

Thanks so much ! We actually do strictly commercial, as of right now. And yes, I used to do residential side load. I honestly did really enjoy it ! But enjoy commercial best. Thanks for the comment and appreciate the welcome back 👍

I have been working on getting my class B CDL to drive a school bus, in fact I have my permit now, but now I'm just waiting on them to call me for behind the wheel training so I can pass that and get my permit changed over to the license. That part is taking forever to get on their training schedule. I see that Waste Management and Waste Connections are hiring but they want you to have experience driving commercial for a year, so I thought a school bus driver would get me that experience, plus its also residential so I thought that would also help. I wish I could go straight to the garbage truck and they help me get the class b instead of the school bus, but I can't seem to find that anywhere.
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
Maybe reach out to WM and WC. See if they have anything available with starting in residential. You might be surprised. WM and Republic here in Indy are helping people to get their CDLs thru their programs starting in residential. May be worth a shot. If not, get your experience with the buses and try again in 6 months to a year.
@heathalbritton2 жыл бұрын
@@hopperhustle I do see on the WM website that they have a residential driver position open, and that no prior work experience is required, but you do have to have your CDL class b. I will email their careers email address and see what I can find out there. Thanks.

How did you learn the stops or the route? I just started my first week , still in training for front loader.
@hopperhustle Жыл бұрын
It just comes with time. One thing that helps me, even to this day, is getting route printouts and looking them over at home. Sounds like something you may not want to do at home 😄 but if you’re just chilling, watching TV just browse thru it. Ask your supervisor if that’s something they can do for you. Take your time out there, keep your head on a swivel, and stay safe 👍

Love the videos! I’m new to front loading and have had a few bumps and scrapes in the first few weeks. You ever do any damage or am I in the wrong business?
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely and if any driver ever tells you they never have - they’re full of it. A lot of experienced front load drivers I know have said you’re not a real driver until you’ve dropped a can in the hopper, taken down a line, and busted out a windshield 🤣 I haven’t lost a can in the truck but I’ve taken a cable line down and had a fair amount of windshields when I started. It’s apart of learning those trucks. It will get better with time. The best piece of advice I can give you is - take your time. When you get in a hurry, that’s when you make mistakes. Always keep your head on a swivel and mind your surroundings. Get out of the truck if you’re ever not sure about a backing situation. Honk your horn if you’re driving out or backing out of blind corner. Always take the time to open your door and double check above you if it’s a new stop. Just keep on trucking, you’ll be fine 👍
@ShawnTheDriver2 жыл бұрын
Reeeeeeeeeally thinking about doing this. I’m currently OTR right now, looking to come back home. Driving a truck over the road isn’t the best for your health and I’m looking for something that’ll afford me the time to go to the gym and also be a little active on the job itself. That and, I still have that boyish desire to drive a garbage truck within me 😂 Waste Management AND Republic Services are both hiring in my area and I’m thinking about just biting the bullet. Do you know if you get to pick the type of stuff you do and what type of truck or does a place generally just assign you to whatever they need? I’m willing to do almost anything BUT roll-off. 😂
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
You already have a CDL which gives you options already! You have to see what they’re hiring for exactly to get you where you want to be. If you want to try front load, they will list those as Commercial Driver or just Front Load. If you already have a CDL, most of them will train you from jump. So you definitely have a foot in !
@ShawnTheDriver2 жыл бұрын
@@hopperhustle Well they have three things listed right now. “CDL Apprentice” which I already know I won’t need to do that. “CDL Truck Driver” and “CDL Driver Residential”. So I’m guessing the CDL Truck Driver one might be the way to go, I wouldn’t mind doing Residential either if it was one of the side loaders 😂 But I have absolutely no experience in collecting trash so I can totally understand if they start me off on something ‘easy’ until I’ve proven myself, if that’s how that type of thing works. Either way I think I’m going to do it for sure, and WHEN I have any questions (as I undoubtedly will) I will make sure to ask ya lol. Thanks!
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
Residential is a great place to start and will more than likely be where they start you at. Sometimes they will train people on roll-off, which coming from a semi it will feel more familiar driving one of those. Either way, once you’re in just give it time at the beginning and once you’ve proven yourself you’ll have even more options. Feel free to hit me up anytime with questions. Good luck to you !
@ShawnTheDriver2 жыл бұрын
@@hopperhustle For sure! Thank you so much! 💪🏾
@hopperhustle2 жыл бұрын
You bet ! One other position I forgot to mention that they may be hiring for under that is Transfer Driver. You would run trailers to and from the dump. If you do enjoy driving a semi that is an option too. But the nice thing about this industry is it’s very versatile so you can try out other driving positions. Honestly, it depends on what positions they’re most desperate for ! 😅

What's the best way to not get the forks stuck in the bin after you dump ed it.
@hopperhustle Жыл бұрын
Rule of thumb I was taught to help that is make sure the back of the can touches down before the front of the can. It doesn’t have to be much. Typically that will clear the hooked ends of your forks but just adjust them as you back out. Hope this helps 👍

I’ve been driving front load for about a month now. Still kinda nervous about driving In the rain especially going down a hill. Any advice?
@hopperhustle Жыл бұрын
Driving in the rain absolutely sucks. It’s something that took me a long time to get used to, especially in the dark. Some things that may help tho .. Early on I would use Rain X on my mirrors and even put some on my backup cam. Always keep a roll of paper towels in your truck, fold up two pieces in a square and keep it on your dash to wipe off your spot mirror. They do a much better job than terry clothes or any cloth I’ve ever used. Biggest piece of advice tho is slow down and take your time. You don’t need to feel rushed and nobody needs to rush you. That’s how you get into trouble out there. Over time you’ll get used to the rain but when you’re starting out just go easy. Speed comes with experience. Hope this helped, thanks and be safe out there -
