@@THXx1138 Actually it is her natural voice. Yes, she's copying the inflections of the song she's heard so many times just like we all do, but her voice happens to sound a fair amount like Karen's. The hint is that even when she covers Olivia Newton-John and copies her inflections she doesn't sound that much like Olivia; she still sounds like Karen. She just has a similar sounding voice.

I was a young man when the Carpenters released this. Karen's soulful voice and perfect pitch had an indescribable effect on me whenever I heard it. This was my favorite song sung by my favorite vocalist of all time. Fast forward a half century... We've all heard a lot of people perform old classics, almost always either doing their own "interpretation" or otherwise falling short of the original. It takes real talent to so faithfully replicate this song as Tory, James, et al did here. Like most of the other commenters here, I still prefer Karen's rendition, but Tory did a remarkable job of trying to replicate it. (How can you match, let alone improve upon perfection?) This is probably the best cover by a female vocalist that I have ever heard. Bravo, bravo, bravo! 🎉

This is how a reaction to Tori should be done. You can tell it's not Karen singing, but it's darn close and is Tori's natural voice. And the instrumentals and backup vocals are stellar as well. As with all Tori's productions, this deserves attention. My only criticism of this video is that he called it a cover. There are lots of covers out there, but in this case only one reincarnation.

@ronraskind2 ай бұрын
If you don't have anything constructive to say, then you shouldn't say it. Troy is not trying to imitate anybody. She has some original music and also covers some other artists. However her passion is the Carpenters, and her natural voice happens to sound like Karen. When you hear her do some other music, you still hear the vibe of Karen Carpenter. Tori has an incredibly beautiful voice and if that's not obvious to you then you're not listening. You're also not paying attention to the production which is genius, done by Jim Wilkas. The layering of harmonies and of instrumentals with backup vocals is pretty incredible from a production standpoint. Bottom line I think that calling her a cheap imitation reflects a cheap comment.

To my ear, it sounds like Tori didn't lean into Karen as much as she did on "We've Only Just Begun".
